Department of Agricultural Sciences
Economic/Data Analytics Laboratory
The Agricultural Economic/Data Analytics Lab (located in space 225B of the Nelson Wing) is made especially to conduct financial and also socio-economic research related to agriculture. The laboratory is equipped with effective computers for the analysis of large data in agriculture utilizing statistical software such as MATLAB, STATA, SAS, R, and SPSS. With upcoming expansions, this computer laboratory will house data sources, a majority of powerful computer systems, and also training programs in information evaluation to allow students to be efficient in data/statistical analysis skills. This laboratory offers pupils in our agribusiness program, and also in our integrated agricultural scientific researches master’s program.
From January 2020 onwards, this lab will be the venue for the analysis of large data sources on U.S. fish and shellfish sales. These data sources include thorough info on seafood sold in food store and grocery stores in the united state. This evaluation is a component of a job funded by the Southern Regional Tank Farming Center (SRAC). Via the analysis of these big data sources, the job plans to assist fish farmers and processors in enhancing their advertising performance, and to get a much better understanding of the aspects identifying the need and prices of fish and shellfish products in the grocery marketplace.
There are brilliant futures in data-driven accuracy agriculture, as well as we prepare our students to be competent in taking care of, processing, and also assessing information. The department is consistently growing our ability to impart these brand-new skills needed in the contemporary farming office to our graduates.
