One-time strawweight queen Jessica Andrade is set to return to her former weight class to face fellow Brazilian Amanda Lemos on April 23.
MMAFighting was first to report the news on Friday that Andrade (22-9) will end her three-fight run in the flyweight division and return to strawweight to face tenth-ranked fighter Lemos (11-1-1). Both sides have verbally agreed to the booking, however, contracts have not yet been signed.
“Bate Estaca” has had a very unique career in the UFC. She originally started her run in the promotion as a bantamweight in 2013. Despite being well undersized for the weight class, she split her six fights at 135-pounds. Beating notable names like Raquel Pennington and Larissa Pacheco in that time.
Jessica Andrade returns to strawweight in April
The Brazilian made the move to 115-pounds in 2016 and began a ten-fight run where she won seven times and scored the division title with a knockout victory over Rose Namajunas three years ago. All of her strawweight losses came to former or eventual champions in Namajunas, Zhang Weili, and Joanna Jędrzejczyk.
After losing to “Thug Rose” in their 2020 rematch, Andrade took her talents to the 125-pound division. She scored a first-round KO over Katlyn Chookagian in her division debut. Followed that with a second-round KO loss to flyweight GOAT and champion Valentina Shevchenko last April, then bounced back with another first-round KO victory against Cynthia Calvillo in Sept. at UFC 266.
Lemos is on a six-fight win streak and earned a closely contested split-decision over Angela Hill in her most recent Octagon appearance in Dec.
What are your thoughts on Andrade cutting back down to strawweight?

Jake Poole scored back-to-back goals in the third period including the game winner Tuesday lifting the Kelowna Rockets to a 5-3 come-from-behind win over the visiting Victoria Royals.
Trailing 3-2 coming into the third, Poole was sent in all alone, and deked to the backhand to beat Logan Cunningham in the Royals net.
Marcus Pacheco set up the goal with a no-look backhand pass to Poole as he was being hit along the left side boards.
Poole scored what proved to be the winner midway through the third, winning race to a loose puck deep in the Victoria end before sliding to his forehand to beat Cunningham.
Adam Kydd iced it into the empty net from inside his own blue line in the final minute.
The Rockets were without several players expected to lead the team this year who are either at NHL training camps or were given the night off.
That left the game in the hands of a younger core of players who, in the view of head coach Kris Mallette had some ups and downs.
I told the guys after the game I shouldn’t have to be me this early in the season, and by that I mean I shouldn’t have to remind players I’ve had in years previous to play a certain way,” said Mallette.
“We made things difficult on each other, but in the third period I thought our group did what they needed to do.
“A lot of teachable moments in the first two periods, some good and a lot of interesting ones to say the least, but those are all decisions that are going to come, and if we want to get to where we need to be, those are habits that need to be broken.”
Mallette says the coaching staff will use the tape from Tuesday’s game to get across those points.
Pacheco scored the opening goal for the Rockets, pounding on a juicy rebound seven minutes.
Early in the second, with the score tied1-1, John Babcock again restored the one goal lead one-timing a pass that caromed off the side boards past a screened Cunningham.
The Royals scored goal a little more than two minutes apart late in the period to grab a one-goal lead.
Pacheco, one of those players being counted on to elevate his game this season, was easily the best Rocket on the ice.
The puck seemed to follow him whenever he was on the ice, and he elevated the play of whoever found themselves on his line.
“He was very consistent tonight. He’s a player that has great speed, and I thought he built confidence.
“Obviously the first goal he scored, he went to the net hard off a rebound, great. From there he played a real consistent game.
“I thought a lot of our younger players…did what I asked.”
Mallette says he expected Poole to come through with the type of roster the Rockets dressed.
The Rockets played much of the game short two forwards after both Dylan Wightman and Turner McMillen ,left with undisclosed injuries.
The extend of their injuries will be reassessed Wednesday.
The Rockets 2-1, close out the pre season this weekend with a home-and-home against the Vancouver Giants. The teams meet Friday at Prospera Place before returning to the coast for a Saturday tilt in Maple Ridge.

From our very busy Bureau of Socialist Compassion and Social Justice
Yet another example of socialism in action. Everyone in Cuba is disposable, especially the elderly who live on a fixed income that basically guarantees death by starvation.
This man was living on a pension of 1,528 CUP per month, ($64 US dollars). Castro, Inc. deemed him a criminal for trying to survive. God only knows how he got his hands on fruits and vegetables to sell to others. His produce was probably grown in his backyard or that of a neighbor who would get a share of the profits. (That’s how the REAL Cuba works). The fine imposed on him amounted to nearly three months of income.
Don’t wait for the Marx Sisters and Grandpa Bernie –or El Niuyortain– to comment on this suicide. It reveals too much about socialism. And so does the tiny home-made cart he used to sell his produce. See video above.
Selfish money-grubbing capitalists like this man deserve the firing squad! It’s a good thing he killed himself so the Revolution wouldn’t have to spend any money on ammunition!
Loosely translated from CiberCuba:
The suicide of an 83-year-old man in Las Tunas, a former Angolan combatant, after being fined 4,000 pesos for selling food in a wheelbarrow and not having money to pay the penalty, has dismayed the victim’s family, neighbors and acquaintances .
The man, identified as Ángel Pacheco Soublet, sold fruits and vegetables to help support his wife, who remains bedridden, and his daughter, who takes care of her sick mother.
In recent years, social networks have given visibility to a growing number of elderly Cubans who survive on the island in situations of extreme vulnerability, which in many cases leads them to work that complements their meager pensions.
In Cuba there are around 1,600,000 retirees, and more than half of them receive the minimum pension, that is, around 800,000 pensioners receive 1,528 CUP per month, the minimum established by law for retirement after 30 years. of service, an amount even less than the minimum wage, set at 2,100 CUP by the government since 2021.
With an overwhelming disadvantage in their income, those 800,000 retirees must pay for the same products and services as the rest of the population, in a country where prices increased 77% in 2021, according to the National Office of Statistics and Information of the island ( ONEI).

Fletcher learns the truth about his mission and his mysterious ally as they try to elude the Black Baron’s dangerous wolven agents.
It’s hard to believe it’s been nineteen years since the first miniseries was published. So much has changed in comics over the last two decades. One thing that hasn’t changed is the quality to Busiek’s writing. This new series has picked up where everything left off. It has also has done so in a way that has introduced new readers to the world of Arrowsmith with style and ease. This story of a alternate history is full of pulp delights and incredible art. If you’ve not read anything by Busiek before, this wouldn’t be a bad place to start. An oversized collection of the original series should be hitting shelves about now too.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:

The World Surf League announced a new initiative Tuesday that aims to encourage United Nations ambassadors and United States lawmakers to adopt more policies to protect the oceans. The campaign is headed by We Are One Ocean, which will call for protecting 30 percent of global oceans and strengthening conservation efforts for the other 70 percent by the year 2030.
30×30, as they’re calling it, will start by passing a global petition to United Nations leaders leading up to the Convention on Biological Diversity. There, the NRDC’s 30×30 targets will cover efforts like creating new marine protected areas in the U.S., protecting existing ones, pushing for a new international treaty, and more.
“Establishing fully and highly protected areas is an incredible way to build resiliency in our ocean. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to protect critical ocean habitat and biodiversity for generations to come,” said Reece Pacheco, SVP Ocean Responsibility, WSL. “This isn’t just about the ocean. It’s about people. By protecting the ocean, and hitting 30×30, we guarantee a healthier future for all.”
“We’re calling on world leaders to adopt a target at the 2021 United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity to fully and highly protect at least 30 percent of the ocean and strengthen conservation in the remaining 70 percent by 2030,” reads the We Are One Ocean website. “Right now, the high seas lack basic modern management tools, and there is no legal mechanism to create fully protected MPAs.”
For now, the campaign is focused on garnering public involvement and support with a global petition. But the organization is also urging people to contact their state governors and UN ambassadors directly. Then, in February, the WSL will launch a new content series highlighting scientists, environmentalists, and professional surfers like current CT World Champion Italo Ferreira, and sharing their personal stories of connecting to and caring for the ocean.
“As a surfer, the ocean is my home and my place of work,” Ferreira says. “It’s really important to me to do what I can to protect it. I hope that by sharing my story and my love for the ocean it will inspire people to sign the petition.”
