How To Raise a Happy Child: 5 Proven Ways to Discipline Your Kids | Family Days Out

Here are 5 ways to discipline your kids and help them become happier people.

Photo by Austin Pacheco on Unsplash

Give your child autonomy

One of the best ways to raise a happy child is to give them autonomy. What does that mean? It means that as a parent, you acknowledge that your child is an autonomous being who is capable of making their own decisions. It means that you empower your child to make choices, even when those choices are “wrong.” It means that you recognize and respect that your child is a person, not a project. It means that you encourage your child to explore their strengths and passions, and support them in their endeavours. You don’t try to mold your child into what you think they should be. You let them decide who they want to be. You let them make their own mistakes, learn from them, and grow from them. There are many ways to give your child autonomy. One way is to let your child choose their own extracurricular activities. Whether your child wants to play a sport, take a music class, or join the chess club, let them choose something that interests them. Another way to give your child autonomy is to let them make their own decisions. Let your child make small decisions, like what they want to eat, what they want to wear, and what they want to do on the weekend. Even though they’re small decisions, they can help your child feel empowered. Letting your child make their own decisions shows them that they have autonomy, and that you have confidence in their abilities.

Help your child build resilience

The state of being happy is achieved through a variety of factors; however, one of the most important is resilience. It is the ability to conquer obstacles and get knocked down and get back up again. If you want your child to be happy, they need to develop resilience. In order to do this, you need to encourage your child to take on challenges, both big and small. You need to let your child know that their feelings are valid, and that they don’t have to push through their emotions. You need to let your child know that they don’t have to be perfect, and that it’s okay to mess up sometimes (because let’s face it: we all do). There are many ways to help your child develop resilience. One way is to help your child build self-compassion. Self-compassion is a powerful way for your child to understand and cope with their emotions, as well as manage their stress levels. Another way to help your child build resilience is to encourage them to take on challenges. Whether it’s a school project, extracurricular activity, or just a regular day with friends, let your child push themselves. Let them take on tasks that feel just outside their comfort zone, and let them fail a little sometimes. Let them stumble, and let them get back up again. Let them know that it’s okay to make mistakes, and that you are with them every step of the way.

Help your child form healthy habits

Another way to raise a happy child is to help them form healthy habits. An important part of being happy is having healthy habits, like exercising, eating well, getting enough sleep, and managing stress. The good news is that you don’t have to nag your child to make healthy habits. You can actually teach your child to develop healthy habits by modelling them yourself. For example, if you want your child to eat more vegetables, you should set an example by eating more vegetables yourself. If you want your child to get more sleep, you should set an example by getting more sleep yourself. By modelling healthy habits, you set an example for your child, and they will learn how to develop healthy habits without even realizing it. There are many ways to help your child form healthy habits. One way is to set a consistent bedtime. Let your child know that they need to start winding down about an hour or two hours before bedtime. Another way to help your child form healthy habits is to set a consistent daily routine. Whether it’s something simple like eating breakfast together as a family, or something a bit more involved like walking the dog every morning, a daily routine can help your child feel more grounded and secure.

Help your child find their passion

The state of being happy is often achieved through the pursuit of something, or someone, you love: your passion. And while many children have a variety of passions (such as animals, sports, school, the arts, etc.), most don’t fully explore their passions. If you want your child to be happy, you need to help them find their passions, and let them pursue them. Even if your child’s passion doesn’t seem like a career path, there are ways to let your child explore their passions and make them part of their everyday life. For example, if your child loves animals, they can volunteer at a local shelter. If your child loves music, they might want to start a band with their friends. If your child loves art, they might want to paint pictures or create sculptures. Passion doesn’t always mean vocation. It can be any activity or interest that makes your child happy. There are many ways to help your child find their passions. One way is to help your child explore their interests. Whether it’s something they’re currently interested in, or something from their past, let them explore their passions. Another way to help your child find their passions is to encourage them to explore their strengths. Everyone has strengths, and they can be turned into passions. Ask your child what they’re good at, and encourage them to explore those areas.

Help your child understand consequences

Some might argue that discipline is the best way to raise a happy child, and they’d be right. Discipline is a necessary part of growing up, and there are lots of ways to do it. It can be done through rules, boundaries, and consequences. It can be done through mentoring, modelling, and being a positive influence in your child’s life. It is done by being a loving, present parent who truly cares about the well-being of their child. It is done by being consistent and patient, and gently helping your child make better choices. It is also done by understanding consequences. There are many ways to help your child understand consequences. One way is to set household rules and boundaries. Let your child know what the family rules and boundaries are, and what the consequences are if they break those rules. Another way to help your child understand consequences is to be a positive influence in their life. Let your child know that you are there for them, and that you are a positive influence in their life. Let your child know that you care about them, and that you want what’s best for them. Let your child know that you are there to help them make better choices, and that you are there to support them when they make mistakes.

The state of being happy is available to everyone, regardless of their circumstances. It is a state of being that is achieved through a variety of factors. One of the best ways to help your child become happier is to give them autonomy, help them build resilience, help them form healthy habits, help them find their passion, and help them understand consequences. These are five ways to discipline your kids and help them become happier people.

Meta employees express feelings regarding lay-offs

Meta fires employees

Former Meta employees who lost their jobs due to the tech giant’s recent firing spree are sharing their experiences of receiving the devastating news on social media.

“Today is a strange day,” remarked former Meta program manager Dylan Pacheco.

Mark Zuckerberg released a statement on Wednesday saying that 11% of the company’s workers, or 11,000 individuals, were being let go. The CEO accepted responsibility for the company’s poor performance, stating that he “got this wrong.”

Apologizing to the laid-off workers, he explained that layoffs were “the final resort” to salvage the company. He said that most of the recruiting crew had been fired due to the company’s employment freeze.

A worker from India, who had joined Meta just two days before his dismissal, was stunned to see the email on Wednesday. Himanshu V had relocated to Canada for a new job, but he was instructed to depart.

“Two days after relocating to Canada to join #Meta, my trip ended due to the major layoff. “My heart goes out to everyone experiencing a difficult situation right now,” he said in a LinkedIn post, explaining that he, like many recently laid-off, was concerned about his future.

“Please let me know if you know of any openings for a software developer in Canada or India,” he added.

Brianna Sgro, a former recruiter for Meta, stated that she was “sad, uncertain, and now unemployed.”

She stated she was thrilled to join the company she had “always wanted to work for” when she joined last year.

“I used to fantasize on my commute, ‘Wow, what if I ever had the opportunity to work at Facebook or Google?’ It felt like an unattainable fantasy,” Sgro writes. Even though all of these things end today, I am grateful to have experienced them.

Despite the layoff, many other employees praised Meta for the experience, as did Sgro. For several, this was their first experience with a widespread layoff.

“I was laid off at Meta today. I never dreamed that my time at a workplace where I felt comfortable and finally at home would end this way. After receiving a promotion and advancing my career internally, I never considered quitting. Cai Mailhes, an ex-recruiter, wrote that his teammates were the brightest and most talented individuals available.

Not every response was positive. People described how they were impacted. Former technical recruiter Nathan Magner stated, “Finding informed you were laid off by email stinks.”

“No warning, and I was informed lately by a team head that the team I worked on had a high priority and would not be affected,” stated a third employee.

A communications director on maternity leave reported receiving the email around 5 a.m. when she awoke to feed her three-month-old daughter.

Anneka Patel, a woman of Indian descent, wrote on LinkedIn, “My heart fell.”

She said, “People would ask whether it was difficult to work there with all the negative news, but I would tell them I was fortunate because I got to convey the good stories about the amazing Facebook groups out there and the work these community leaders are doing to help alter the lives of others.”

A couple working as technical recruiters at the company expressed their anger, stating that they had only recently returned from maternity leave.

The posts indicate that Meta has terminated employees from the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Ghana, and India. Mark stated that recruiters were the most affected group, but product designers, marketing department employees, engineers, and those at Meta’s Reality Labs were all significantly impacted.

Moo Shu Vegetable

I love vegetable moo shu. Since I was a kid, it’s always been one of my favorite Chinese take-out dishes – it’s light and tasty, but more importantly, you get to roll things up in pancakes, which, when you’re a kid, is just so much better than chopsticks. Even better is that it’s ready to go in just 20 minutes!

Sure, the pancakes never stay together and the whole thing usually ends up falling apart, but that’s also part of what makes it great.

If you love take-out fake-out recipes, you’re going to love this vegetable fried brown rice, tofu pad thai, and yellow tofu curry.

What is Moo Shu Vegetable?

Vegetable moo shu is a plant-based take on moo shu pork. The dish originated in northern China but has been Americanized greatly with the addition of serving it with mandarin pancakes.

In the US it is usually made with julienned pork, cabbage, scrambled egg, carrots, and wood ear mushrooms. We’ve swapped the mushrooms for regular and eliminated the pork and egg to make this dish vegan.

Why This Recipe Works

What Goes Into This Recipe

Fresh veggies and some pantry staples are all you need to make this moo shu vegetable recipe. It’s simple, easy, and cooks in a flash.

How To Make Moo Shu Vegetable

Let’s get started cooking up our vegetable moo shu. Be sure to check the detailed instructions in the recipe card.

TOP TIP: As this is kind of a classic stir-fry, you absolutely have to have everything ready to go before you start cooking. It can seem like a lot of prep – all that chopping, measuring, and portioning into little bowls – but everything cooks in around 5 minutes over high heat, so there’s just no time to do any cutting or measuring while everything is cooking. So make sure you have everything ready before you turn on the stove.

Expert Tips

Is moo shu vegetable healthy?

Yes, it is! This vegan moo shu is made with vegetables, minimal oil, and just a few processed ingredients for a dish you will feel good about serving.

Is moo shu vegetable vegan?

This recipe is vegan but some recipes and restaurants may include eggs or other non-vegan ingredients so be sure to check or ask.

What does moo shu vegetable taste like?

This Chinese-inspired dish has a crisp texture thanks to the quickly cooked veggies and a salty, tangy, and sweet flavor.

How to Serve Moo Shu

Skip the pancake and serve it over rice or noodles! But that kind of defeats the whole purpose of the moo shu experience.

Ideas for side dishes to add on include these crispy tofu wontons, hot and sour soup, and these tofu spring rolls.

  • 1 Tablespoon of neutral (canola, vegetable, grapeseed, etc.) oil
  • 1 teaspoon of minced ginger
  • 2 scallions, 1 minced and 1 cut on the diagonal into ½’ pieces
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • ½ onion thinly sliced
  • 2 carrots peeled and cut into thin matchsticks
  • ¼ head of green cabbage thinly sliced or shredded
  • 3 ounces of mushrooms thinly sliced
  • 3 Tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of water
  • 1 teaspoon of hoisin sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of cornstarch mixed with 1 teaspoon water
  • Mandarin Pancakes or tortillas
  • hoisin sauce (and sriracha, if you’re so inclined) for serving
Make sure you have everything ready to go – prepped, measured, chopped, and in small bowls by the stove – before you do anything. I can’t stress this enough. Once you start cooking, everything happens really quickly, so there’s no time to chop something else while things are on the stove. Just saying. Put your ginger, garlic, and minced scallion in one small bowl, onion in another, carrots in yet another, and cabbage and mushrooms in a slightly larger bowl. Whisk together the soy sauce, sake, hoisin, and salt. Stir the cornstarch and water together. Get it all in an accessible place by the stove. Okay. Here we go.
Put a nonstick skillet (or wok) on the stove, turn the heat up to high, and add the oil to the pan. When the oil’s hot, add the ginger, minced scallion, and garlic to the pan, and stir-fry until fragrant, around 15 seconds. Add the onion, stir-fry for 30 seconds or so, then add the carrots, and cook, tossing and stirring, for another 30 seconds. Add the cabbage and mushrooms, then dump the soy sauce mixture over everything, and stir-fry until the cabbage begins to wilt and the mushrooms start to brown, around 1 minute. Give the corn starch and water a quick stir to reincorporate, then add that to the pan, and quickly stir it in. Cook for another 30 seconds to a minute, still stirring, until the cabbage and mushrooms are both cooked through and greatly reduced in bulk. Remove from the heat, and stir in the cut scallion.
To serve, take a mandarin pancake (or tortilla), and smear a line of hoisin (and sriracha, if you want some heat) across the bottom. Spoon in some moo shu, and roll the thing up like a tiny burrito – fold the sides in over the filling, then roll it all up from the bottom. Or you can eat it like a taco (which is what I usually end up doing after my rolls fall apart). Or you can serve it over rice, but that kind of defeats the whole purpose of the moo shu experience.
  • Prep everything prior to cooking. The whole dish cooks in five minutes so you won’t have time while things cook to get anything ready.
  • Swap out the veggies to use what you have on hand! Cabbage and mushrooms are generally considered classic ingredients in moo shu though!
  • Serve up your vegetable moo shu with mandarin pancakes for a fun and more authentic experience.
