Authentic Cuban Restaurant Opens In North Jersey

The Cuban Around The Corner lives up to its name: offering authentic Cuban cuisine made by real Cubans.

The new restaurant recently opened in Bergen County. Manny Fernandez and Audrey Pacheco, who have been married for 20 years, originally opened a takeout restaurant in Bogota, but patrons requested a spot with more space, and they settled on a location in Bergenfield at 260 S Washington Ave.

At The Cuban Around The Corner, Pacheco handles the front, while Fernandez is in the back making his famous Real Deal Cuban sandwiches. Pacheco estimates they sell about 25 a day. Other popular dishes include ropa vieja, a combination of shredded beef and vegetables and pernil, a slow cooked pork roast.

“Cuban cuisine has a lot of flavor,” Pacheco said. “It’s not healthy food, it’s flavorful food.”

Customers have told the Pacheco they are filling a void in the community, which lacked a Cuban option.

“We’ve had a lot of Cubans who live in town come out,” Pacheco said. “We didn’t know they lived here.”

The husband and wife team weren’t interested in offering anything fusion, they wanted to make the food they ate growing up that Cubans would recognize.

“It’s been great,” Pacheco said. “The Cubans love it and non-Cubans like it too. We’re offering authentic Cuban recipes prepared by a Cuban chef. That’s what sets us apart from other Cuban restaurants.”

Pacheco said she is touched by the support she’s received from people in Bergenfield.

“The town has been amazing,” Pacheco said. “So many people have come out to support us. The neighbors have been so welcoming. We’re really happy here. It’s a great town.”

Chicago Bears Q&A: Who should we be watching at training camp?

The Chicago Bears wrapped up their third week of organized team activities ahead of mandatory minicamp next week. What matchups should we be watching? And will the Bears finally sign an edge rusher? Brad Biggs addresses concerns in his weekly mailbag.

What are some key matchups we should be paying attention to in minicamp and training camp? — @just_acy

I don’t know that there are a lot of matchups that are super intriguing at training camp. Obviously you want to see how wide receiver DJ Moore performs when the pads come on and he’s competing against cornerbacks. I am talking specifically about work where it is starters versus starters. Moore facing the second-team cornerbacks doesn’t generate a ton of intrigue for me. It would be concerning (from an offensive standpoint, anyway) if the current group of edge rushers had a ton of success against the starting offensive tackles.

Maybe more interesting will be the few battles for starting spots. I don’t know if it’s surprising how many first-team spots appear to be up for grabs for a team coming off a 3-14 season. Obviously general manager Ryan Poles and his staff did a nice job filling some glaring holes early in the offseason. A couple of spots warrant attention.

Cornerback: Everyone figures Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon will be in the top two. Who is the third cornerback? Will that player start full-time on the outside and is Gordon strictly a slot cornerback? It will be interesting to see how rookies Tyrique Stevenson and Terrel Smith perform as well as holdover Kindle Vildor.

Running back: It looks as if the Bears will go back to by-committee, but you never know. Someone has to be tops on the depth chart in first-down situations and someone has to be viewed as the top back in passing situations. Who emerges from the group of Khalil Herbert, D’Onta Foreman, Roschon Johnson and Travis Homer? Those questions likely will play out in preseason action.

Defensive tackle: How quickly will rookies Geron Dexter and Zacch Pickens emerge as consistent players in the rotation? Answers will not come until the team is in full pads.

Strong-side linebacker: Can fourth-round pick Noah Sewell push Jack Sanborn at this position? Sanborn performed well as a rookie. He’s coming off an injury and the team clearly likes Sewell’s upside.

Those are a few spots to pay attention to as the summer unfolds.

Will the Buffalo Bills’ signing of Leonard Floyd get things moving for the market of available edge rushers? I am thinking Ryan Poles and the Bears finally signing one. — Ezra, Joliet

It can’t hurt, that is for sure. Floyd signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Bills this week, and Frank Clark was taken off the board Thursday when the Denver Broncos reached agreement with him on a one-year contract worth $5.5 million. So we’ve at least got a little momentum here. Floyd has the opportunity to earn another $2 million in his deal, and Clark’s contract includes another $2 million in upside.

Floyd’s contract might have established a ceiling for free-agent defensive ends as Clark came in a little below him. Chances are at this point the remaining players are staring at one-year contracts. I say that because if the money hasn’t been there for them on a multiyear deal — and that is why they are still on the street — it’s probably not going to magically appear at this point. We’ll see what shakes out. Yannick Ngakoue is probably the best option right now who doesn’t have too much tread on his tires. Can he do better than Floyd’s deal? I suppose that is possible, but the former Bears first-round draft pick was probably the most complete edge defender on the market before this week.

Seems like there have been some positive reports about Velus Jones this spring. Can he become a consistent producer in the offense? — Mitchell G., Tulsa, Okla.

It would open up some more possibilities for offensive coordinator Luke Getsy if Jones can be more consistent, and that word you used is the key. The fastest way for Jones to earn more opportunities is to prove he can be consistent with assignments and production. The Bears certainly believed he could help on offense when they invested a third-round pick in him. I still view him as a gadget player but I also wouldn’t put a ceiling on him.

He has a chance to grow in Year 2. He probably should be a lot more comfortable and confident. The Bears couldn’t wait around to see if it’s going to happen for Jones, though, and that is why they invested in Tyler Scott in the draft this year. Competition should raise the level of play for the wide receiver room.

If the Bears are considering Naperville, then why not at an alternative site in Chicago? — @shufflincrew85

It’s probably more likely that the Bears are attempting to leverage Arlington Heights and its surrounding communities to get measures in place the team deems necessary to continue with the project than anything else. Maybe the Bears will have exploratory discussions — in the most basic form — with other municipalities in the weeks and months to come.

During the extended period of time that the Bears were closing on the Arlington Heights property, there was a clause in the deal that prevented them from negotiating with other possible sites — Chicago and Soldier Field included. Now that the Bears own the former race-track land in Arlington Heights, they are free to do as they please.

Can the Bears’ recent meeting with new Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson be viewed as a positive that the team could remain in the city? — Brett P., Chicago

Image 1 of 41

I don’t know how you would spin that (or really anything) out of the joint statement the city and franchise released Wednesday.

“Today we met and discussed our shared values and commitment to the City of Chicago, the importance of deep roots and the need for equitable community investment throughout the city,” the statement read. “We are both committed to the idea that the city and its major civic institutions must grow and evolve together to meet the needs of the future. We look forward to continuing the dialogue around these shared values.”

Odds of the Bears finding a viable site in the city that they could purchase and develop — with the terms they desire — seem miniscule to me. I’m talking fourth-and-42 miniscule. Maybe I am wrong, but there would have to be a major change in the way the winds are blowing for a project in the city to get traction.

The Chicago Park District has done a poor job of managing Soldier Field on behalf of the Bears. Just look at the renovation debacle. Staying in Chicago is increasingly unlikely. Is there a chance the park district would/could sell the property to the Bears? — @tkevinh1965

For starters, the park district manages the stadium for the city. The Bears are a tenant. Second, I don’t see how the Bears could potentially buy Soldier Field. In 1987, Soldier Field was designated as a national historic landmark. I suppose it is possible but that option seems really remote to me.

Being that the Bears are No. 1 for waiver claims, what position group do you think Ryan Poles/Matt Eberflus will target to maybe add depth or look for a starter if possible? — @dabearszach

Certainly if the Bears have a clear need for depth at a position, they will look at that. But the waiver wire is more about players than positions. You should look at the names that come available and consider what your scouting reports (before this season) and what the reports generated during preseason actions say. If there is a player the team likes, then you weigh that player’s skill against what you have at the bottom of your depth chart. The Bears should be looking more for talent than positional needs. Sure, edge rusher likely would be a need even if they add a veteran between now and the start of training camp. But it’s highly unlikely a proven pass rusher eligible for waivers is cut loose.

Public Hearing: Route 27 and 99X Service Change

Notice of Public Hearing – Thursday, May 18, 2023, 9:00 am

The Central Contra Costa Transit Authority (County Connection) will hold a public hearing to gather comment on proposed changes to Route 99X and elimination of Route 27, which would be replaced by select trips on Route 99X. The proposal also includes offering free rides on Route 99X. Further information on the proposed changes is provided below.

Service & Fare Change Proposal

Route 99X began operating in August 2018 and is funded by the Low Carbon Transit Operations Program (LCTOP) cap and trade grant program. Since its launch, the route has not attracted much ridership and continues to underperform compared to other express routes. Given its low performance, changes are being proposed to increase efficiency and productivity. The proposal also includes consolidation of Route 27, which currently provides limited trips within North Concord. The proposed new alignment and schedule would:

  • Provide a faster and more direct connection between North Concord BART and Martinez Amtrak;
  • Continue serving high usage stops like North Concord BART, Concord Adult Homeless Shelter, Morello/Arnold, Martinez Amtrak, and Mason Circle;
  • Eliminate route segments with little to no ridership on both Routes 27 and 99X, including Pike Ln, the Pacheco Transit Center, Muir Rd, and Arnold Dr;
  • Improve transfer connections with Amtrak; and
  • Preserve existing service levels overall, including hours and frequency

Since the consolidation of Route 27 into Route 99X would result in current riders on Route 27 paying the higher Express route fare when using Clipper, the proposal also includes making Route 99X fare-free.

Prospect Report: Reds’ Abbott Shines In Chattanooga

Andrew Abbott, LHP, Reds: Abbott, a Virginia alum, opened his season with a bang last week, when he struck out 11 in 4.2 no-hit innings. On Thursday, he found a way to up the ante. This time, Abbott punched out 14 hitters in six two-hit innings with no walks on the ledger. If you want a clear way to spell out Abbott’s dominance, here it is: He’s faced 35 hitters this season and struck out 25.

Tanner Bibee, RHP, Guardians: Cleveland might have this whole pitching thing figured out. In 2021, it popped Bibee in the fifth round out of Cal State Fullerton. Then the Guardians sent him to their laboratory. Now, he’s a monster. Bibee broke out in 2022, when he struck out 167 and walked just 27 over 132.2 innings. This year, his stuff has taken even more of a jump. He touched 100 mph on Thursday night, when he punched out eight over six one-hit innings in Columbus’ dismantling of Worcester.

Tyler Freeman, 2B, Guardians: Freeman’s prospect status has fluctuated in recent years, largely based around questions about the potential impact in his bat and whether he’d stick up the middle. He made his big league debut in 2022 and didn’t show much in the way of pop. On Thursday, though, he found the power switch. Still just 23, Freeman collected the second five-hit game of his career (the first came on May 15, 2021), smacked two doubles and a home run and finished a triple shy of the cycle.

Ricky Tiedemann, LHP, Blue Jays: After a delayed start to the year due to some shoulder soreness, Tiedemann made his season debut on Thursday. He seems fine. Tiedemann faced 11 hitters over three innings and struck out nine of them. He threw 35 of his 49 pitches for strikes, good for a clip of nearly 72%. The nine strikeouts are one shy of Tiedemann’s career high. Thursday’s game was the fifth time the lefthander recorded nine or more strikeouts in a game, but this was the first time he’d done it without pitching into the fifth inning.

James Wood, OF, Nationals: Wood was one of the big prizes in last summer’s blockbuster trade that sent Juan Soto to San Diego. He was coveted for his sky-high upside, stemming from massive power and hittability. After consecutive three-hit games on Tuesday and Wednesday, Wood notched just one hit on Thursday. It was a big one, though. Wood’s lone knock was his first home run of the season, a two-run blast in the first inning of Wilmington’s one-run victory over Hickory.

From Humble Origins to Roofing Royalty: The Inspiring Journey of Francisco Saul Pacheco

Biography of Francisco Saul Pacheco: A Roofer

Introduction:

Francisco Saul Pacheco, a skilled roofer, was born in the year 1888. Despite his humble beginnings, he rose to become one of the most respected figures in his field. This biography delves into his life, tracing his journey from early hardships to recognition and success as a master roofer.

Early Life and Childhood:

Francisco Saul Pacheco was born on the 15th of June, 1888, in a small village located in the outskirts of Guadalajara, Mexico. He was born into a modest family that earned their livelihood through farming. From an early age, young Francisco demonstrated exceptional determination and resilience.

Education and Early Career:

Due to limited resources and familial responsibilities, Francisco’s formal education was cut short after completing primary school. However, he exhibited an insatiable thirst for knowledge and sought opportunities to learn through informal channels. In his free time, he dedicated himself to self-study on various subjects related to construction techniques.

At the tender age of fourteen, Francisco embarked upon his career as a roofer by securing an apprenticeship with a local construction firm specializing in roofing services. Working under experienced craftsmen provided him with invaluable practical skills and insights into the profession.

Journey Towards Mastery:

The apprenticeship period proved instrumental in shaping Francisco’s destiny as a roofer. Earning meager wages initially did not dampen his spirit; instead, it motivated him to work harder while acquiring proficiency in different aspects of roofing techniques such as tile installation and waterproofing solutions.

After gaining substantial expertise through years of diligent workmanship under master roofers within Guadalajara itself – widely acknowledged for its architectural marvels – Francisco set out on a quest for knowledge beyond regional boundaries. He traveled extensively across Mexico exploring various cities renowned for their architectural legacy.

Professional Achievements:

Francisco’s unwavering commitment to excellence earned him a reputation as a meticulous roofer, leading to numerous lucrative projects throughout his career. His expertise in traditional roofing methods, combined with an innovative approach, garnered acclaim among architects and project developers.

His work was widely recognized for its durability, aesthetic appeal, and adherence to the highest quality standards. Francisco soon became a sought-after roofer not only in Mexico but also attracting clients from neighboring countries.

Legacy:

Beyond his professional achievements, Francisco Saul Pacheco left an indelible mark on the community through his dedication to fostering aspiring roofers. Recognizing the importance of passing down knowledge and skills to future generations, he mentored young apprentices who displayed potential.

Additionally, Francisco played an active role in advocating for improved safety measures within the roofing industry. He championed initiatives aimed at providing better working conditions for roofers and ensuring that proper safety guidelines were observed on construction sites.

Conclusion:

Francisco Saul Pacheco’s journey from a humble background to becoming a renowned roofer remains an inspiring tale of perseverance and determination. Through hard work and continuous learning, he transcended societal barriers while leaving behind an enduring legacy within the field of roofing. Today, his contributions continue to shape architectural landscapes while serving as a testament to the power of passion and expertise in any chosen profession.

Ethics Approval and Consent to Participate

This study was conducted with approval from the Ethics Committee of the 940 Hospital of Joint Logistic Support Force of People’s Liberation Army. This study was conducted in accordance with the declaration of Helsinki. Written informed consent was obtained from all participants.

As one of the members of this study group, some of the pathological specimens involved in Yu Haipeng’s study30 were sourced from the 940th Hospital of the Joint Logistics Support Force of Chinese People’s Liberation Army (normal liver tissues, hepatocellular carcinoma tissues and paracancerous tissues), and the others came from the Cancer Hospital affiliated to Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital (normal liver tissues, hepatocellular carcinoma tissues and paracancerous tissues). In his study, he first detected the expression of MIF, ERK1/2 and p-ERK1/2 in normal liver tissues, hepatocellular carcinoma and paracancerous tissues, as well as the expression of MIFmRNA and ERK1/2 mRNA. He found that the expression of these three proteins and two nucleic acids in hepatocellular carcinoma and paracancerous tissues was significantly higher than that in normal liver tissues, and then focused on adding the recombinant gene MIF (rMIF) to liver cancer cells and normal liver cells. He used Western and RT-PCR methods to detect the expression of ERK1/2, p-ERK1/2 and ERK1/2 mRNA in these two cells. The results showed that with the increase of rMIF concentration, the expression of ERK1/2, p-ERK1/2 and ERK1/2 mRNA was significantly higher than that of normal hepatocytes. The conclusion, MIF may promote the occurrence and development of hepatocellular carcinoma through ERK1/2 signal pathway.

Dr Xiao-Hui Yu is also a member of this subject, and the pathological samples involved in the study were all sourced from the 940th Hospital of the Joint Logistics Support Force of Chinese People’s Liberation Army (normal liver tissues, liver cirrhosis tissues and hepatocellular carcinoma tissues). The study mainly focuses on detecting the expression of three proteins (MIF, ERK1/2 and p-ERK1/2) and two nucleic acids (MIF mRNA and ERK1/2 mRNA) in normal liver, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma tissues. The results showed that the protein and nucleic acid of MIF and ERK1/2 were low expressed in normal liver group, high expressed in cirrhosis group and HCC group, while pERK1/2 was low expressed in normal liver tissues and cirrhosis group, and high expressed in HCC group. The expression of pERK1/2 in HCC group was significantly different from that in cirrhosis group and normal control group (P < 0.05), the expression of pERK1/2 in the cirrhosis group is not significantly different from the normal expression in the normal liver tissues control group (P > 0.05). Thus, the low expression of pERK1/2 in cirrhosis group of this study is different from the high expression in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues of Yu Haipeng, suggesting that the occurrence and development of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma are not only related to the high expression of MIF, but also may be related to the activation of ERK1/2, a key protein, especially the carcinogenesis of liver cirrhosis is more closely related to the phosphorylation of ERK1/2. Therefore, the study focused on the relationship between the occurrence of canceration of liver cirrhosis and the phosphorylation of ERK1/2.

This study was funded by the Science and Technology Plan of Gansu Province (Key research and development Programmes-Social Development) (No.20YF8FA099).

Key Components of Market Analytics

Market analytics involves collecting and analyzing data to gain insights into markets, customers, and competitors. By understanding the key components of market analytics, businesses can uncover valuable information that can drive their decision-making and ultimately lead to success in the marketplace. Let’s explore the key components in more detail:

Data Collection and Analysis

Data is the foundation of market analytics. It provides valuable information about customer behavior, market trends, and industry insights. The process of data collection involves gathering information from various sources, such as customer surveys, social media platforms, and industry reports. This data is then analyzed to identify patterns, trends, and relationships.

Key points:

  • The accuracy and reliability of the data collected are crucial for making informed decisions.
  • Data analysis techniques like descriptive and predictive analytics help in extracting meaningful insights from the collected data.
  • Advanced tools and software can aid in automating the data collection and analysis processes, saving time and effort.

Market Research Techniques

Market research is an essential component of market analytics. It involves gathering information about potential customers, competitors, and the overall market landscape. Market research techniques can vary depending on the objectives of the analysis. Common methods include surveys, interviews, focus groups, and observation.

Key points:

  • Market research helps businesses understand customer preferences, demands, and buying behaviors.
  • It also provides insights into the competitive landscape, helping businesses identify opportunities and potential threats.
  • Conducting thorough market research enables businesses to make informed decisions, develop effective marketing strategies, and stay one step ahead of the competition.

Consumer Behavior Analysis

Understanding consumer behavior is a crucial component of market analytics. By analyzing customer behavior patterns, businesses can gain insights into why consumers make certain purchasing decisions. This knowledge can help businesses tailor their marketing strategies and improve customer satisfaction.

Key points:

  • Consumer behavior analysis involves examining factors such as demographics, psychographics, and buying habits.
  • By understanding consumer preferences and motivations, businesses can identify target market segments and develop targeted marketing campaigns.
  • Analyzing consumer behavior also allows businesses to personalize their products and services, improving customer loyalty and retention.

Market analytics encompasses several key components that work together to provide valuable insights. By effectively utilizing data collection and analysis, conducting thorough market research, and analyzing consumer behavior, businesses can make informed decisions, develop effective marketing strategies, and stay ahead in the competitive market landscape. Incorporating these key components into your market analytics efforts will unlock the potential for business growth and success.

Utilizing Market Analytics for Business Growth

As a business owner or marketer, you’re constantly looking for ways to grow your business. One powerful tool that can help you achieve this is market analytics. By using data and insights, market analytics allows you to make informed decisions and develop effective strategies to drive growth. In this section, we’ll explore how you can utilize market analytics to fuel your business’s growth and success.

Identifying Target Market Segments

One of the key benefits of market analytics is its ability to help you identify and understand your target market segments. By analyzing data such as demographics, behavior patterns, and buying habits, you can gain valuable insights into who your customers are and what they want. This allows you to tailor your products, services, and marketing efforts to meet their specific needs, which can lead to increased customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Developing Effective Marketing Strategies

With market analytics, you can go beyond just identifying your target market segments. You can also gain insights into which marketing channels and strategies are most effective in reaching and engaging your target audience. By analyzing data on customer preferences, channel performance, and campaign outcomes, you can fine-tune your marketing strategies to maximize their impact. This could involve optimizing your social media campaigns, refining your email marketing strategy, or investing more in influencer partnerships.

Measuring Campaign Effectiveness

Once you have implemented your marketing strategies, market analytics can help you measure their effectiveness. By tracking and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs), such as website traffic, conversion rates, and customer acquisition costs, you can evaluate the success of your campaigns. This allows you to identify areas for improvement and make data-driven decisions on how to optimize your marketing efforts. For example, if a particular campaign is not performing as expected, you can use market analytics to pinpoint the issue and make necessary adjustments to achieve better results.

With the right market analytics tools and techniques, you can unlock the full potential of your business and drive growth. But how do you choose the right market analytics tool that suits your business’s needs? Let’s explore that in the next section.

  • Ongoing optimization: Continuously optimize your market analytics strategy and processes. Implement changes based on the insights and findings from your analysis. Experiment with different approaches and techniques to improve your results over time.
  • Market research: Stay up-to-date with the latest market trends, industry news, and consumer behavior shifts. Conduct periodic market research to understand evolving customer needs, preferences, and expectations. This will help you adapt your marketing strategies accordingly.
  • Competitor analysis: Keep an eye on your competitors and analyze their marketing activities. Identify their strengths, weaknesses, and unique selling points. This will allow you to differentiate your brand and stay ahead of the competition.
  • Industry knowledge: Develop a deep understanding of your industry and the factors that influence it. Attend conferences, webinars, and workshops related to your field to expand your knowledge and gain insights from industry experts.
