Apple says that its most recent iPhones are built to handle up to 30 minutes in up to six meters of water.
So imagine Owain Davies’ surprise when he discovered that his own iPhone still worked after lying submerged in a river for 10 months.
Perhaps even more remarkable is that the phone was recovered and handed back to Davies, who had long given up hope of ever seeing it again after losing it on a canoeing trip in Gloucestershire, England, last summer.
Miguel Pacheco found Davies’ iPhone while out boating with his family. Sharing the remarkable story with the BBC, Pacheco said the phone looked in bad shape and so he was convinced it would never power up. However, thinking that it might have content on it that was important to the owner, he took the handset home, dried it out, and put it on charge.
To his astonishment, the phone powered up.
The iPhone’s screensaver showed the date of August 13, the day the device fell in the water. It also showed a photo of a young couple. Pacheco posted the image on social media, and following thousands of shares, the owner’s identity was eventually confirmed.
With the phone now back in his possession, Davies explained that he lost the device when he toppled into the water after trying to stand up in his canoe.
“The phone was in my back pocket and as soon as I was in the water I realized the phone was gone,” he told the BBC.
In a similarly remarkable story from six years ago, a man’s iPhone 4 somehow survived 18 months — yes, 18 months — submerged in an icy lake, though the tough case that it was in may well have helped.
More recently, a man took drastic action and dived into freezing water to rescue his iPhone, which he’d dropped a few hours earlier. A passer-by captured a video of the dramatic moment the owner jumped into the water to retrieve his handset. And yes, it still worked.

از علل #درد #کف #پا میتوان گفت کف پا از استخوانهای مچ پایی (تارسال) و استخوانهای کف پا (متاتارسال) و همچنین رباطها (لیگامان ها) و تاندون های حمایت کننده تشکیل میشود. سر یکی از انگشتان پا را بگیرید و آن استخوان را تا وسط پا دنبال کنید تا در نهایت به استخوان کف پا برسید. این 5 استخوان کف پای (متاتارسال) متصل به انگشتان پا این امکان را برای ما فراهم میآورد تا با توزیع یکسان وزن جهت حفظ تعادل بتوانیم بایستیم، راه برویم و بدویم. چسبیده به استخوانهای متاتارسال، در نزدیکی انتهای کف پا هفت استخوان تارسال (مچ پایی) قرار دارد. استخوانهای تارسال و متاتارسال در کنار یکدیگر قوس کف پا را شکل میدهند.اکثر دردهای کف پا ناشی از فشار و یا التهاب فاسیای پلنتار (رباط طولانیدر کف پا) میباشد. این بیماری به عنوان التهاب پلانتار شناخته شده است و گاهی اوقات با بروز خار پاشنه در ارتباط است. نوروما یک نوع تومور خوش خیم عصبی یا رشد غیر طبیعی بافت عصبی می باشد. نورومای مورتون به طور دقیق یک تومور نیست بلکه ملتهب و ضخیم شدن بافت احاطه کننده ی عصب یا خود آن می باشد. این عارضه معمولا بین انگشت سوم و چهارم پا اتفاق می افتد. (ممکن است بین انگشت دوم و سوم نیز به وجود بیاید). مورتون نوروما می تواند علت گز گز بین انگشتان پا ، باعث خارش، بی حسی ،گزگز کف پا و درد شدید و سوزناک در ناحیه ی کروی کف پا و سوزن سوزن شدن بین انگشتان پا شود و علت گرم شدن کف پا باشد . میزان شیوع این عارضه در بین زنان هشت تا ده برابر مردان است.
از آنجایی که سراسر کف پا، از جمله داخل کف پا، دارای قوس است، این قسمت از بدن انحناء مشخصی دارد.

پایدار ساختن بدن هنگام ایستادن، راه رفتن و دویدن
امکانپذیر ساختن راه رفتن روی سطوح ناهموار و شیبدار
تاندون تیبیالیس خلفی یکی از ساختارهای مهم متصل به قوس کف پا محسوب میشود. این عضله از پشت استخوان ساق پا شروع میشود، در امتداد داخل مچ پا ادامه مییابد و به چند استخوان مچ پایی (تارسال) درون قوس کف پا متصل میشود. این تاندون نقش مهمی در حمایت از قوس کف پا و حفظ سلامت آن در طول فعالیتهای روزانه ایفاء میکند.
هرگاه یکی از این تاندونها، رباطها و استخوانهای مرتبط با کف پا ضعیف شود یا به دلیل استفاده مفرط، فعالیت بیش از اندازه یا فرسایش ناشی از افزایش سن ضعیف شود، درد در قوس کف پا بروز خواهد یافت.
اگر از زیر به کف پای یک فرد بزرگسال نگاهی بیندازید، متوجه یک منحنی رو به بالا در وسط کف پای او میشوید که اصطلاحاً به آن قوس کف پا گفته میشود. در واقع این تاندونها هستند که این قوس را شکل میدهند، یعنی اگر همهی تاندونها به میزان لازم به سمت داخل کشیده شوند، کف پا ، قوس متعادل و انحنای طبیعی خود را پیدا میکند، ولی اگر تاندونها به طور صحیح و به میزان لازم با هم کشیده نشوند، یا این قوس کم میشود و یا اصلاً قوسی بهوجود نمیآید، که به این حالت افتادگی قوس پا یا اصطلاحاً صافی کف پا گفته میشود.
رشتههای پیوندی کف پا، طنابهای پیوندی ضخیمی هستند که از بافت پیوندی زیر سطح استخوان پاشنه پا شروع شده و در کف پا به سمت پنجهها امتداد مییابند. رشتههای پیوندی کف پا موجب قوس کف پا میشوند. هرگاه این رشتهها ملتهب شوند یا در آنها پارگیهای ریز زیاد شود، به آن التهاب رشتههای پیوندی کف پا گفته میشود.
هنگامیکه التهاب رشتههای پیوندی کف پا طولانی شود یا آسیب ادامه یابد، بدن بافت نرمی را که ضعیف و آسیب دیده است با استخوان ترمیم میکند و ایجاد خار پاشنه مینماید . خار پاشنه پا یکی از دلایل اصلی درد پاشنه است. خار پاشنه استخوان رشد کردهای است که به استخوان پاشنه چسبیده است و در قوس کف پا رشد میکند. میزان موفقیت در درمان خار پاشنه بسیار زیاد است.

ST. GEORGE — Washington City Police arrested two men after a broken taillight led to the discovery of 7 pounds of heroin.

An officer was heading north June 3 on Interstate 15 near mile marker 10 shortly before 8 p.m. when he observed a broken taillight on a gray passenger car traveling in the same direction. When the car reportedly failed to move to the left as it approached a pickup truck that was disabled on the side of the roadway, a traffic stop ensued.
According to charging documents filed with the court, the officer noticed several air fresheners hanging from the rearview mirror, while speaking to the driver, identified as 23-year-old Eddye Hosue Fonseca, of Tepec, Mexico, and his passenger, 30-year-old Filiberto Pacheco Rodriguez, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
The driver told police he did not have a valid driver’s license, nor did the passenger, the report states.
During the stop, the officer deployed his K-9 to conduct a free-air sniff around the perimeter of the car, which is when the animal alerted the possible presence of narcotics.
During a search of the trunk, officers recovered a total of six round bundles located in different areas: three were found inside a black portable speaker; two were tucked inside a pair of shoes found in a shoe box; and one was found in the pocket of a jacket located in a camouflage-style duffle bag.

All six bundles were similar in texture and appearance. Five were wrapped in electrical tape, while the sixth was wrapped in clear plastic. When one of the bundles was cut open, officers found the package contained a brown tar-like substance that tested positive for heroin during a field test conducted at the scene.
With both suspects having access to the suspected narcotics, the pair were arrested and interviewed by police; during which, both men reportedly denied having any knowledge of the suspected heroin recovered from the trunk.
The men were transported to Purgatory Correctional Facility and booked into jail, each facing one second-degree felony count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
Fonseco also faces one misdemeanor charge of possession of paraphernalia, in addition to two traffic infractions.
Washington City Police Chief Jason Williams told St. George News that officers contacted the Washington County Drug Task Force from the scene, adding the suspected narcotics recovered had a combined street value of more than $310,000.
Heroin-related overdose deaths remain staggering
According to a 2019 report released by the Drug Enforcement Agency, heroin continues to pose a serious public health and safety threat to the United States, and an overwhelming majority of heroin that reaches the country is smuggled across the Mexican border.
While Afghanistan continues to be the largest producer of heroin worldwide, it is Mexico-sourced heroin that continues to dominate the U.S. market. The drug was responsible for more than 15,480 overdose deaths in 2017, and those numbers have been on a slight decline since the start of the fentanyl crisis in 2014, when fentanyl-related deaths rose sharply – a steady ascent that that continues to this day.

Even so, heroin contributed to more overdose deaths during that year than any other illicit drug, except fentanyl, the DEA says.
One shift that has had a devastating impact on the heroin market nationwide is directly connected to the rise in the fentanyl market – a drug that is more potent than its counterpart and one that has made its way into local heroin supplies.
In fact, by 2018, more than 40% of all retail-level heroin seized by the DEA contained fentanyl.
By adding fentanyl, traffickers are able to increase the drug’s potency – which means higher profits but also higher rates of overdose deaths.
Following the arrest in Washington City, the officer requested both suspects be held without bail, citing that neither man had any ties to Utah, but both had strong family ties in Mexico. The request was approved by the court and both suspects remain in custody on a no-bail hold.

SANTIAGO, June 26 (Reuters) – Chilean state-owned copper miner Codelco, the world’s top producer of the red metal, sees a firm copper price ahead despite a recent sharp fall, chairman of the board Máximo Pacheco told Reuters in an interview in Santiago.
The comments come as copper prices posted their biggest weekly fall in a year as investors worried that efforts by central banks to stem inflation will stifle global economic growth and reduce demand for metals. read more
“We may be in temporary short-term turbulence, but what is important here are the fundamentals, the supply-demand balance looks very favorable to those of us who have copper reserves,” Pacheco said.

“In a world where copper is the conductor par excellence and where there aren’t many new deposits either, the price of copper looks very firm because the future looks very electric.”
Benchmark copper on the London Metal Exchange was 0.5% lower at $8,367 a tonne on Friday after touching $8,122.50, down 25% from a peak in March and the lowest level since February 2021. Other industrial metals also tumbled.
Pacheco, a former energy minister appointed earlier this year, said the annual production goal would be maintained at 1.7 million tonnes while he was in charge, including for this year. He said costs needed to be kept in check
“In this industry we compete with costs and that is why we need to be competitive,” he said.
Chile’s government said this week it would allow Codelco, which gives all its profits to the state, to retain 30% of its profits from last year to help finance an ambitious $40 billion investment plan until the end of the decade.
“We have this portfolio of very large projects and the Chilean state decided to change the dividend policy precisely to be able to finance those strategic projects not only with depreciation and debt but also with reinvestment,” he said.
The executive said the injection of resources would allow the firm’s debt to remain “relatively stable,” currently at some $18 billion, though it would still look for opportunities to go to debt markets to improve its maturity curve.
