‘William Shatner was here:’ ‘Star Trek’ legend’s wallet returned after accidentally left at a Gilroy fruit stand in California – ABC30 Fresno

CALIFORNIA — A recent celebrity sighting has a city in California buzzing about what superstar William Shatner left behind, rather than what he purchased.

The cultural icon lives in Beverly Hills but visited the Fruit Barn on Pacheco Pass Highway in Gilroy last Wednesday.

The fruit stand at 2918 Pacheco Pass Hwy has attracted customers from near and far for decades. However, Shatner’s visit last Wednesday has Gary Tognetti, owner of B & T Farms, considering new decor.

“I thought about putting a sign up, ‘William Shatner was here,'” Tognetti told ABC7 News.

When staff spotted the wallet in the corn bin on Wednesday, Tognetti said his crew was too young to place Shatner.

Togenetti showed up to work Thursday and saw the wallet. After his initial shock, he texted a friend, Officer Mark Tarasco with the Gilroy Police Department.

Tognetti explained, “I told him, ‘Hey, we found this wallet,’ and he wasn’t quite sure if I was telling a little joke.”

“I went and immediately phone called to Gary to try to figure out why Gary, of all people, has Mr. Shatner’s wallet in his possession,” Officer Tarasco said.

Then came the race to connect with Captain Kirk.

“I told Gary, ‘Hey, let me help you out.’ I was on my way to work, met up with a few folks there to include Sgt. John Ballard who has some detective experience,” Ofc. Tarasco detailed. “And I asked him, ‘Hey, how do I get a hold of a celebrity?'”

Tognetti also reached out to a buddy at the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. Tarasco described a friendly competition that ensued, to return the wallet to Shatner.

“It was a race to try to figure out who was gonna contact Mr. Shatner first,” Tarasco pointed out. “If you were to call Beverly Hills PD, they would tell you that there was a few different people calling, trying to get a hold of Mr. Shatner in Beverly Hills.”

The celebrity is said to have purchased four baskets of chilled cherries and $2 worth of corn.

“He paid for it prior to getting the corn and I’m assuming he had his wallet in his pocket, in his shirt pocket,” Tognetti said.

The thought is Shatner may have walked over to the corn bin, bent over to pick some items and lost his wallet in the process.

It took two hours and some teamwork to connect with Shatner’s agent about the star’s missing wallet. Officer Tarasco said celebrity status aside, the department made sure they did their due diligence.

“We were vague about what we found and we wanted to hear them correlate, you know, not just the wallet, but the contents as well,” he told ABC7 News.

Tarasco said the wallet was then sent through FedEx and overnighted back to Shatner in Beverly Hills.

On Tuesday morning, this tweet was posted to Shatner’s verified Twitter account: “I would like to thank Gary and Natalie of B&T Farms @TfarmsB for their extreme honesty in returning my lost wallet. They are obviously good citizens. I would also like to thank Officer Mark Tarasco and Sergeant John Ballard from the @GilroyPD My best, Bill”

“When you get to talk about something and laugh about it, and pass on the experience to other people- to include my family, my parents, big fans and all that- it’s cool,” Ofc. Tarasco said.

As Captain Kirk, Shatner said, “There’s no such thing as The Unknown, only things temporarily hidden.” In this case, the “thing” temporarily hidden was his wallet.

7 Kansas City Chiefs players who need to have a strong training camp

As the Kansas City Chiefs head into training camp later this month, there will be immense competition for roles on the team. Competition is never a bad thing, as it often brings out the best in the team and prepares them for all of the possibilities ahead of the season.

There are some players that need to generate some steam during training camp or they risk finding themselves on the roster bubble. The NFL approved gradual roster cuts in 2022 ahead of 53-man cuts, so that means every practice and impression made counts.

With all of that in mind, let’s take a look at seven Chiefs players who need a great training camp:

WR Corey Coleman

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

There is no position more competitive than the receiver group in Kansas City. During OTAs and mandatory minicamp, there were plenty of standout moments from the group. That includes flashes from players like Justyn Ross, Justin Watson and Josh Gordon, who are not locks to make the team. One player we haven’t heard much about during the offseason program is Corey Coleman. The former first-round draft pick is trying to revitalize his career three years removed from starting an NFL game. He’ll need to show out during training camp if he’s to climb the depth chart and make the team.

DE Joshua Kaindoh

AP Photo/Terrance Williams

It’s pretty rare that a player appears in three games, plays over 45 defensive snaps and doesn’t record a single official stat, but that’s what happened with Kaindoh last season. The fourth-round draft pick recorded a single pressure on a blitz in 2021, but his season was disrupted by injury before he could make any real impact. With the Chiefs desperate for a spark from the edge rusher position, there is a real opportunity for Kaindoh to step up and secure a big role during training camp. If he doesn’t, the former fourth-round pick could quickly fizzle out with Kansas City.

S Deon Bush

Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports

Juan Thornhill, Justin Reid and Bryan Cook have a stranglehold over the top-3 safety spots on the roster. Kansas City typically carries four safeties on the 53-man roster, and many believe that Bush could end up being that fourth player because of his special teams prowess. He’ll have some stiff competition, though. Players like Zayne Anderson and Devon Key have a year of experience in the system. There is also Nazeeh Johnson, who was drafted this season. Bush needs to stand out during training camp if he’s to secure a spot.

CB Deandre Baker

AP Photo/Scot Tucker

Cornerback might be the second-most competitive position on the 90-man roster in Kansas City. Baker, who enters his third season with the Chiefs, is the player at the greatest risk of release heading into training camp. Baker made the 53-man roster outright last season, appearing in just eight games all year, starting one game in Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s been a solid backup for Kansas City, but with staggering competition from the likes of Lonnie Johnson, Joshua Williams and Jaylen Watson, he’ll need to step up his game and have a strong training camp.

LB Jermaine Carter

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

The Chiefs have typically carried six linebackers on the 53-man roster and at least three spots are currently spoken for (Nick Bolton, Willie Gay and Leo Chenal). Carter missed the early portion of OTAs due to COVID-19, which put him a little behind the eight ball early on. Really, linebackers don’t see much hype until the pads come on in training camp, so it’s not a big surprise that things have been quiet regarding Carter. If he wants to secure one of the spots up for grabs at his position, he can start with a standout performance at training camp.

RB Isiah Pacheco

AP Photo/Charlie Riedel

Bringing Jerick McKinnon back into the fold puts some pressure on Pacheco to perform during training camp. The Chiefs frequently carry just four running backs including a fullback on the 53-man roster, meaning that Pacheco might have to beat out McKinnon or Ronald Jones for a roster spot. The rookie has a notable speed advantage over some of his teammates at the position, which could give him an edge. He also should compete for a starting job as a return specialist. He’ll need a strong training camp performance if he’s to make the 53-man roster outright.

OT Geron Christian

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Christian and Roderick Johnson have split starting snaps at the left tackle position for Kansas City while Orlando Brown Jr. stayed away during OTAs and mandatory minicamp. Both have starting experience at the left tackle position and could prove to be valuable backups for the Chiefs. Johnson was starting over Christian late into minicamp, and with Brown likely back in the fold for training camp, Christian could be relegated to the third-team offensive line. Having a big performance in training camp could prove vital for Christian’s ability to make the 53-man roster.

8-Year-Old Starts Plant Business With Mom’s Last $12, Helping Family To Move From Shed To Apartment

Jul 27, 2022 by apost team

The saying goes: if you put your mind to something and work hard for it, anything is possible. When single mom Berenice Pacheco found herself in a challenging situation, she had no idea that her son would step up and support the family. At 8 years old, Aaron Moreno, from California, went above and beyond to help his family when the pandemic meant his mom lost her job. Through intelligent investment and business practices, the boy was eventually able to provide a new home for his family through his earnings and donations by inspired good samaritans.

Berenice Pacheco and her family fell on hard times at the beginning of this year, just as the coronavirus pandemic first swept the nation. She lost her job in March 2020 and had to move her three children into a shed in East Los Angeles to make ends meet, reported TODAY

“We didn’t have any other options,” she said.

The shed had no access to the internet nor appropriate furniture for her children to complete their homework. Furthermore, the family would use the bathroom at a nearby restaurant and could only shower, all the while dealing with the unbearable heat of the shed. Pacheco said the situation broke her heart and that she felt like she was failing her children as a mother.

The restrictions on social life that came with the pandemic made the situation worse for everyone in the whole family.

“The playground always made them happy, but then the playgrounds shut down,” she told TODAY. “We were stuck in that shed.”

Be sure to reach the end of this article to see the full video 🙂

With money being so tight, Pacheco couldn’t afford to buy her children treats either. The fact that a food truck would pass by the neighborhood every afternoon with her son Aaron’s favorite snack, Hot Cheetos topped with melted cheese, made it all the more heartbreaking.

“He wanted it so badly,” Pacheco said. “But I needed to pay the phone bill and do the laundry.”

She then somewhat jokingly told Aaron that he could start a business of his own to buy his own snacks but didn’t expect that he would take that idea and run with it. He was determined that he would do something and began to brainstorm. Pacheco told TODAY that he came up with the idea to sell plants, so she gave him the remaining $12 in her wallet. “I told him to invest the money,” Pacheco said.

Aaron got straight to work. In March, he purchased eight miniature succulent plants with all of his money. After selling his plants, he ended up with $16 – a modest $4 profit. It seemed as though he was going in the right direction.

He bought and sold even more plants with his earnings, and customers often also tipped him, which added to his profits. Since then, the smart 8-year-old has made hundreds of dollars worth of savings from his small business. Another welcome side-effect of starting his business was internet fame, which brought him close to 30,000 Instagram followers.

Thanks to Aaron’s hard work, as well as donations to his now non-active GoFundMe account and Pacheco’s new part-time job, this family has made their way into a better life.

apost.com

The GoFundMe account was started by Pacheco's friend from high school as a way to support the struggling family. It had certainly paid off and achieved over $50,000 in donations before it ran its course. The money helped the family to move into a one-bedroom apartment.

"We finally have our own kitchen. Aaron and his sister have a place to do homework," Pacheco gushed to TODAY. "It's not big but it feels huge to us." The new funds also helped Pacheco to bring her daughter, Aaron's sister Ayleen Pacheco to California from Mexico, where she lived with her grandmother due to financial constraints, reported PEOPLE

Even at just 8 years old, Aaron Moreno is going places. On Instagram, he wrote, "My next job after having my own plant shop will be working for Nike and making my own shoes and then I plan to go to the university so I can become a judge," as per TODAY

We have no doubt that Aaron is destined for great things in the future!

After being the recipients of so much generosity from others, Pacheco and her family want to give back. "We are together, we have a house," said Pacheco to NBC Los Angeles." The community really helped us and now we donate toys to Mexico to try and demonstrate however faded a situation may seem, the sun rises every morning."

Seeing the good humanity can do when we reach out and help each other is always uplifting. We hope the Pacheco family will face a happy life ahead!

Congratulations to Aaron Moreno for starting a successful business at such a young age! We wish him the very best for his future. Let us know your thoughts about Aaron's success, and be sure to pass this on to your friends to inspire them as well!
