Tim’s Rocking Horse
Toys from 2011….
A tiny rocking horse; UK coins that some entrepreneur has stuck adverts on; a small LED light that does some impressive colour morphing…
Then a mistake… we ordered some Wide and Long puzzles, and the optical illusion even fooled the maker on this occasion!
A neat little torch that you attach to your belt; when you need it, the part that illuminates can be pulled out on a fine string’ When finished, the string retracts.
Benham’s Disc and a jumping disc…
Then a plastic ball that lights up; but it also has circular discs that pop out when the ball is spun.
Finally some bugs with vibrating motors that make them move around the table in a random fashion…
Trading Tarik Skubal, Greg Soto Makes Sense For Detroit Tigers
Trading Tarik Skubal and Gregory Soto Could Jump Start the Detroit Tigers Rebuilding Process
The Detroit Tigers should trade Tarik Skubal and Gregory Soto. If not by the Aug. 2 deadline, then this offseason.
Is it a signal the last seven years of “rebuilding” hasn’t worked? Absolutely. But there comes a point when you have to deal with reality. And the reality is, the Tigers’ strategy of rebuilding via starting pitching hasn’t worked.
Even before his injury, Casey Mize was trending as a mid-rotation piece, not an ace. Matt Manning? Who the heck knows, because he can’t put together a full season to save his life.
Tarik Skubal is 25 and Gregory Soto is 27, not exactly old men even by baseball standards. Realistically, the Detroit Tigers are not going to be playoff contenders for two to three seasons — even if all the right moves are made. Soto becomes a free agent in 2026 and Skubal the following year.
Looking at the bigger picture, Detroit’s best young talent ranges in age from 19 – 23: Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson, Jackson Jobe, Jace Jung, Colt Keith, Izaac Pacheco, Roberto Campos and Dillion Dingler.
So while all that talent is making their way (hopefully) to the Major Leagues and then maturing, Skubal and Soto will lose trade value while playing on a losing team. Team control is king, right?
Detroit Tigers’ Pitching Depth
The other part of the equation is this, the Detroit Tigers have pitching depth. A combination of Eduardo Rodriguez, Beau Brieske, Spencer Turnbull, Mize, Manning, Dylan Smith, Ty Madden, Jobe, Reese Olson and Joey Wentz are all candidates for the rotation over the short and long haul.
In the bullpen, Alex Lange figures to be the closer in the not too distant future. Jason Foley, Wilmer Flores, Kyle Funkhauser, and Will Vest will all play roles, too. A few of the starting candidates not making the rotation will wind up in the bullpen as well.
What might Skubal or Soto bring in return?
As everyone with even a passing interest knows, the Detroit Tigers need positional help. Both Skubal and Soto should bring in multiple players. The goal should be a young, productive Major Leaguer and/or top prospect(s) for both.
Of the current contenders, St. Louis might be the best fit for Skubal. The Cardinals are in a fight with Milwaukee for the N.L. Central and are in desperate need of a starting pitcher and having the kind of young players Detroit needs.
Nolan Gorman would make a perfect centerpiece for the Tigers. Just 22, Gorman has posted moderate rookie numbers with the Cardinals with a slash of .234/.312/.431 with 9 home runs and 22 RBI. But the left handed hitter belted 15 home runs in Triple-A this season in just 133 at bats before being called up.
As for Soto, there are any number of teams that could use his services, including the Los Angeles Dodgers. While the Dodgers have run away with the National League West, they have to be nervous about relying on closer Craig Kimbrel.
The 34-year-old right hander has 17 saves but an ERA of 3.97, so Soto would seemingly buttress L.A.’s World Series hopes.
The Tigers should make prospect Diego Cartaya the center piece of a return for Soto. He’s one of the top catching prospects in baseball and would be a huge upgrade for the Detroit Tigers.

‘William Shatner was here:’ ‘Star Trek’ legend’s wallet returned after accidentally left at a Gilroy fruit stand in California – ABC30 Fresno
CALIFORNIA — A recent celebrity sighting has a city in California buzzing about what superstar William Shatner left behind, rather than what he purchased.
The cultural icon lives in Beverly Hills but visited the Fruit Barn on Pacheco Pass Highway in Gilroy last Wednesday.
The fruit stand at 2918 Pacheco Pass Hwy has attracted customers from near and far for decades. However, Shatner’s visit last Wednesday has Gary Tognetti, owner of B & T Farms, considering new decor.
“I thought about putting a sign up, ‘William Shatner was here,'” Tognetti told ABC7 News.
When staff spotted the wallet in the corn bin on Wednesday, Tognetti said his crew was too young to place Shatner.
Togenetti showed up to work Thursday and saw the wallet. After his initial shock, he texted a friend, Officer Mark Tarasco with the Gilroy Police Department.
Tognetti explained, “I told him, ‘Hey, we found this wallet,’ and he wasn’t quite sure if I was telling a little joke.”
“I went and immediately phone called to Gary to try to figure out why Gary, of all people, has Mr. Shatner’s wallet in his possession,” Officer Tarasco said.
Then came the race to connect with Captain Kirk.
“I told Gary, ‘Hey, let me help you out.’ I was on my way to work, met up with a few folks there to include Sgt. John Ballard who has some detective experience,” Ofc. Tarasco detailed. “And I asked him, ‘Hey, how do I get a hold of a celebrity?'”
Tognetti also reached out to a buddy at the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. Tarasco described a friendly competition that ensued, to return the wallet to Shatner.
“It was a race to try to figure out who was gonna contact Mr. Shatner first,” Tarasco pointed out. “If you were to call Beverly Hills PD, they would tell you that there was a few different people calling, trying to get a hold of Mr. Shatner in Beverly Hills.”
The celebrity is said to have purchased four baskets of chilled cherries and $2 worth of corn.
“He paid for it prior to getting the corn and I’m assuming he had his wallet in his pocket, in his shirt pocket,” Tognetti said.
The thought is Shatner may have walked over to the corn bin, bent over to pick some items and lost his wallet in the process.
It took two hours and some teamwork to connect with Shatner’s agent about the star’s missing wallet. Officer Tarasco said celebrity status aside, the department made sure they did their due diligence.
“We were vague about what we found and we wanted to hear them correlate, you know, not just the wallet, but the contents as well,” he told ABC7 News.
Tarasco said the wallet was then sent through FedEx and overnighted back to Shatner in Beverly Hills.
On Tuesday morning, this tweet was posted to Shatner’s verified Twitter account: “I would like to thank Gary and Natalie of B&T Farms @TfarmsB for their extreme honesty in returning my lost wallet. They are obviously good citizens. I would also like to thank Officer Mark Tarasco and Sergeant John Ballard from the @GilroyPD My best, Bill”
“When you get to talk about something and laugh about it, and pass on the experience to other people- to include my family, my parents, big fans and all that- it’s cool,” Ofc. Tarasco said.
As Captain Kirk, Shatner said, “There’s no such thing as The Unknown, only things temporarily hidden.” In this case, the “thing” temporarily hidden was his wallet.
