Buenos Aires Times | Auto industry takes leap forward after stagnant decade

In times of economic instability, the numbers thrown up by ADEFA (Asociación de Fabricantes de Automotores) industry group are far from trifling – local auto plants manufactured 61,104 vehicles last month, 25.4 percent more than in March 2022.

The report also shows the total production of units climbing to 134,574 last quarter or 28.1 percent up on the results of the first quarter of 2022.

These figures registered at the close of March have great importance as the highest volume of units measured in almost a decade, going back to October, 2013 when there was a record production of 72,987 units manufactured.

Ford executive Martín Galdeano, who heads ADEFA , highlighted that “the volumes registered by the sector in this first quarter sustain the growth trends which we had anticipated for 2023.”

The result “underlines the importance of joint work in the value chain, permanent dialogue and public-private partnership to find the mechanisms permitting this growth to be sustained in a very challenging context,” he added.

It’s worth  highlighting that during the first months of the year, factories registered an increase in production due to implementing more work shifts, as they have done from mid-2022 up to now.

Second manufacturing shifts have been added at Peugeot and Nissan with production also increased at the Fiat factory in Córdoba. Volkswagen has begun to produce more units of its Taos model while the manufacture of the new version of Ford Ranger is slated to begin this year at the firm’s plant in General Pacheco. Meanwhile Toyota, which leads the sector, has expanded its production by adding a third shift at its Zárate plant with the aim of hitting 180,000 units by the close of this year.

What remains certain is that March saw a surprising leap in local industrial production destined for export markets – 32,420 vehicles were exported in March, or 31.7 percent more than the same month last year, while 67,738 units were exported in the first quarter of this year –  a figure representing 50.3 percent of a total production of 134,000 units or 25.6 percent than the exports of the first quarter of 2022.

Sales of units to dealers supplying the domestic market also increased but more moderately – a product of the country’s economic situation and a new import system implemented since mid-October. Sources from the sector affirm that these limits do not apply to the importing of car parts for production, but the importing of vehicles has been increasingly blocked.

The reality indicates that the automotive terminals, which today concentrate 98 percent of the vehicles marketed in the country, sold 38,087 units to local dealers in March – i.e. 12.6 percent more than the volume of the same month last year – while 90,324 units were sold wholesale in the first quarter of 2023, representing 13.7 percent more than the 79,406 units of the first quarter of 2022.

TECH4ALL: Driving Inclusion and Sustainability with Partnerships

– Huawei and its global partners hosted a media roundtable at HAS2023

SHENZHEN, China, April 21, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — At a media roundtable held yesterday at Huawei Global Analyst Summit 2023, Huawei and its global partners shared the latest TECH4ALL practices and discussed how digital technology enables a more inclusive and sustainable digital world.

During the session, several of Huawei’s global TECH4ALL partners also made updates on projects that are currently running across the globe. A key message was that for each project, the powerful combination of technology and partnerships has been fundamental to driving positive outcomes.

“All our efforts in TECH4ALL initiatives have only been possible due to the combination of technology and partnerships,” said Jeffrey Zhou, President of ICT Marketing for Huawei in his opening remarks at the roundtable.

Since the initiative’s launch in 2019, Huawei has worked closely with governments, customers, international organizations, research institutes, and NGOs to make the social value of digital technology as far-reaching as possible.

Driving Equity and Quality in Education

To drive inclusion and help build sustainable futures, TECH4ALL education projects have so far reached 220,000 beneficiaries globally. Priority beneficiaries are remote and rural communities and underserved groups, including women and girls, unemployed youth, people with disabilities, the elderly, and K12 students and teachers.

During the roundtable, YouChange China Social Entrepreneur Foundation shared its vision underlining how technology-based support platforms empower early-career teachers in rural areas by providing online training to develop their professional capabilities and confidence.

“The greatest development is the development of human beings. In the future, we would love to continue working with Huawei, enhancing rural education through technology,” said Hui Ling, Secretary General for YouChange China Social Entrepreneur Foundation.

Conserving Nature with Technology

In the area of sustainability and nature conservation, TECH4ALL projects have helped conserve biodiversity efficiently and manage natural resources sustainably in 46 protected areas across the globe, including 5 pilot projects under the Tech4Nature partnership set up in 2020 between Huawei and International Union for Conservation of Nature.

“When we talk about biodiversity and area-based conservation, technology can really help us in assisting in monitoring and strengthening reporting on biodiversity, climate and area-based conservation targets,” said Khalid Pasha, Asia Coordinator, IUCN Asia Regional Office.

During the roundtable, TECH4ALL partner C Minds shared on the Mexico Tech4Nature project. Launched in May 2022 with IUCN, C Minds and other local partners, the project is harnessing the power of AI and community centered approaches to safeguard biodiversity in the Dzilam State Reserve, including the endangered North American jaguar.

“The use of technologies provides the ability to scale up conservation action to unprecedented levels and ensure shorter time frames, which we achieved in this case, that the results of years of manual tagging and data interpretation were achieved in less than 1 year of working together with technology and partnerships. It also provides the ability to create transparent and measurable impact,” said Regina Cervera Pacheco, Project Coordinator for C Minds.

Using ICT to Boost Rural Development

ITU-D also attended the session to update on the Smart Village Pakistan project. Launched in January 2023, this project model accelerates the impact of multiple SDGs by increasing last-mile access and provides remote villages with access to a range of digital services, including e-health, e-education, and e-commerce with a view to improving the quality of life and economic opportunities.

Pakistan is ITU’s first smart village programme in Asia Pacific under the Smart Villages and Smart Islands initiative. We are very proud of partnering with the Government of Pakistan and Huawei in this. These kinds of pilots also bring in new partners, who can bring about even bigger changes. I’d like to thank all those who have stepped in to make this a success.” said Ashish Narayan, Program Coordinator at the ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.

With the TECH4ALL partners at the media roundtable clearly showing what working together with common goals can achieve in practice, Huawei hopes to continue enabling inclusion and sustainability through innovative technologies and long-term partnerships.

In the Studio: Adapting INVISIBLE From Graphic Novel to Audiobook

AudioFile spoke with author Christina Diaz Gonzales and Scholastic Audiobooks Editor and Associate Producer John Pels about creating the audiobook version of INVISIBLE, a middle-grade bilingual graphic novel about five very different students who find commonality and friendship.

AudioFile: Tell us about the process of adapting INVISIBLE from a graphic novel to an audiobook.

Christina Diaz Gonzalez: The entire process was an amazing collaborative effort from beginning to end that wouldn’t have been possible without the talent and vision of John Pels and Paul Gagne (Director of Production at Scholastic Audiobooks). From adapting the graphic novel’s visual cues to finding voice actors whose Spanish accents were authentic, we all worked together to lay the groundwork. Then the incredible cast took over and brought each character to life. The final result is a wonderful audiobook that allows the listener to visualize the graphic novel without having Gabriela Epstein’s wonderful illustrations to guide their imaginations.

John Pels: Any graphic novel audio adaptation always begins with incredible source material, and Christina Diaz Gonzalez and Gabriela Epstein created a rock-solid foundation for our recording with their words and pictures. An initial read of the book introduced us to five strong protagonists with distinct and diverse voices, which we felt were perfectly suited for a full-cast audiobook. We began working on a script to create additional narrative text and dialogue along with notations for musical cues and sound effects to fully reimagine the graphic novel as a captivating audio experience. This initial draft of the script was shared with Christina, whose feedback was tremendously helpful in ensuring we were correctly interpreting the action and emotion of the story. With much of the text in the book presented bilingually in English and Spanish, she also provided invaluable expertise when it came to translating any added dialogue into Spanish. Then, once all parties signed off on the adapted text, the recording script was finalized, and we were ready to take our narrators to the booth.

From left: Narrators Lisset Díaz, Noah Rico, Christian Barillas, and Andrés Hinspeter-Seda

AF: How did you go about casting INVISIBLE?

JP: Identifying the narrators to fill the five main roles in INVISIBLE (George, Sara, Dayara, Miguel, and Nico) was a critical moment in the development of the audiobook, and we worked with agents and studios across the country to find the best talent for each role. It was important for the Spanish to stand front and center with the English as it does in the book, and we were wanted to celebrate the diverse backgrounds and dialects of the characters—Puerto Rican, Cuban, Venezuelan, Mexican, and Dominican. Our search focused on finding bilingual performers so the diverse accents and dialects would sound both accurate and natural. Christina once again lent a helping hand, or rather an ear in this case, when reviewing the auditions we received to make sure each actor captured their character in a way that was distinctive and truthful to the book.

AF: In creating this full-cast audiobook, how did you unite all of the performances as well as incorporating the sound effects, etc.?

JP: The geographic locations of our narrators—Miami, Los Angeles, Nashville, and throughout the northeast— presented an interesting challenge on the technical side of things. Because we didn’t have the opportunity to record them performing together, it was important to ensure that the performances came across as a cohesive and natural-sounding whole. The process becomes a mix of art and science, with the goal of having the actors “play” off each other in just the right way even though they’re recording separately from each other, while also making sure the technical quality of sound recorded at different studios all matches in the finished product. The sound effects and music that we layer throughout help us take visual elements off the page and into the listener’s ears to build a more immersive experience, but without overshadowing the narration that drives the story.

AF: Is there anything else you’d like to share with us about INVISIBLE?

CDG: I’m just so proud of this audiobook which gives both English and Spanish listeners the opportunity to simultaneously listen to a story about how we are often not seen for who we really are. The fact that it showcases English language learners and some of the diversity in today’s classrooms is an extra bonus!

Creamy Vegan Vegetable Korma

Bowl of Vegan Korma and rice with fork and spoon.

This vegan korma is rich, creamy and deliciously comforting! Made with veggies in a spiced cashew-coconut sauce, it tastes like it came from your favorite Indian restaurant — but is actually really easy to make at home.

White wooden surface set with bowl of Vegan Korma and rice, bunch of cilantro, and pot of korma.

Korma was always one of my favorite Indian restaurant dishes to order when dining out. It was so creamy! So decadent!

Creating a vegan version would be downright impossible, right? Wrong!

When I finally became brave enough to start researching korma and entertaining the possibility of veganizing it, I was delighted to discover that while traditional versions do contain dairy, they don’t contain nearly as much dairy as I’d always though. Most recipes call for some heavy cream or yogurt. But they also call for super creamy ingredients that I already use in my vegan cooking, like coconut milk and cashews.

Eliminating the dairy from this curry wasn’t tough at all! In fact, the dish is, on the whole, pretty easy to throw together. I did incorporate a few shortcuts into my recipe, like using ground spices where traditional korma might call for whole ones. The result was a rich and creamy vegan curry that was absolutely delicious!

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Raw cashews. Raw cashews have a rich flavor and blend up smooth and creamy, so they’re a key element to this recipe. I don’t recommend substituting roasted cashews.
  • Diced tomatoes. We’re keeping life easy and using canned tomatoes for our vegan korma.
  • Garlic.
  • Ginger.
  • Vegetable oil. You can use any neutral high-heat oil you have on hand here. Coconut oil, peanut oil, canola oil and avocado oil are all fine options.
  • Onion.
  • Spices. You’ll need garam masala, ground cumin, whole cumin seeds, cardamom, coriander, and ground turmeric. Most of these can be found in the spice aisle of your regular supermarket. Whole cumin seeds may be the only exception. You can substitute with more ground cumin if you absolutely must.
  • Coconut milk. Use the full-fat variety from a can. Light coconut milk will probably work if you need to reduce the fat and calorie content. I don’t recommend using coconut milk sold in cartons, which is heavily watered down.
  • Water.
  • Cauliflower.
  • Potato. The recipe calls for a russet potato, but red or golden potatoes should also work just fine. You can really switch things up and use a sweet potato if you’d like.
  • Carrots.
  • Salt & pepper.
  • Frozen peas.
  • Fresh cilantro. Leave this out if you’re not into cilantro.
  • Basmati rice.

How It’s Made

The following is a detailed photo tutorial on how to make this dish. Scroll all the way down if you’d like to skip right to the recipe!

Make the paste first. Blend your raw cashews, tomatoes, garlic and ginger until smooth. This can take a few minutes, particularly if you’re not using a high-powered blending device, so be patient.

Tip: You may find it challenging to get the mixture smooth if you’re using a very large blending device. If this is the case, add up to a half cup of water to help things along. You’ll be adding some water to the curry later anyway, so just subtract what you added to the paste when you get to that step.

Onions and spices cooking in a pot.

Heat your oil in a pot, add the onion, and cook it for a few minutes, until it starts to soften. Now add the spices and sauté them briefly with the onion.

Korma paste cooking in a pot.

Add the paste to the pot and cook it with the onion and spices for a few minutes, stirring constantly. Keep going until it thickens and darkens a bit.

Tip: Be careful not to burn the spices or paste during these early cooking stages. It’s easy to do! Stir constantly and keep an eye on the heat level.

Coconut milk being poured into a pot of vegetables.

Add the coconut milk, water, cauliflower, potato, carrots and salt to the pot. Stir it up, raise the heat and bring it to a simmer.

Blue pot with a lid on top.

Now lower the heat and let the curry simmer with the lid on. Make sure to take the lid off and give it a good stir, scraping the bottom of the pot, every few minutes.

Vegetables simmering in korma gravy.

Uncover the pot and let your vegan korma simmer for a few minutes more. This will give the sauce a chance to thicken up.

Vegan Korma simmering in a pot.

Stir in the peas and simmer just a minute more.

Pot of Vegan Korma with a wooden spoon.

Take the pot off of heat and season the mixture with more salt, if desired, and black pepper to taste. Adjust any other seasonings to suit your taste.

Bowl of Vegan Korma and rice with a blue pot in the background.

Serve your vegetable korma with some basmati rice and a fresh cilantro. Vegan naan would be another delicious accompaniment. Dig in!

Leftovers & Storage

Leftover vegan vegetable korma will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for a 3 to 4 days.

Creamy Vegan Vegetable Korma

This vegan korma is rich, creamy and deliciously comforting! Made with veggies in a spiced cashew-coconut sauce, it tastes like it came from your favorite Indian restaurant — but is actually really easy to make at home.

Ingredients

For the Paste

  • ½ cup raw cashews, soaked in water 4-8 hours, drained and rinsed
  • cup canned diced tomatoes
  • garlic cloves
  • tablespoon fresh grated ginger

For the Curry

  • tablespoons vegetable oil
  • medium onion, diced
  • teaspoons garam masala
  • teaspoon ground cumin
  • teaspoon whole cumin seeds
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ½ teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • (14 ounce/400 ml) can full-fat coconut milk
  • ½ cup water
  • small cauliflower head, broken into florets (about 1 ½ pounds)
  • medium potato, scrubbed and cut into ½-inch pieces (about 10 ounces)
  • medium carrots, sliced (about 8 ounces total)
  • teaspoon salt, plus more to taste if desired
  • cup frozen peas, thawed
  • Black pepper, to taste

For Serving

  • Cooked basmati rice
  • Chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

  • Place all of the paste ingredients into a food processor or blender and blend until smooth. Set aside. (Note 1)
  • Coat the bottom of a large pot with the oil and place it over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the onion.
  • Sweat the onion for about 5 minutes, until it starts to soften up and become translucent, stirring frequently.
  • Add the garam masala, ground cumin, cumin seeds, cardamom, coriander, and turmeric to the pot. Cook the spices with the onion, stirring constantly, for about 1 minute.
  • Add the paste to the pot. Stir well and cook the mixture while stirring constantly until it begins to darken and thicken slightly, about 2 minutes.
  • Stir in the coconut milk, water, potato, carrots and 1 teaspoon of salt. Raise the heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  • Lower the heat so that the mixture is at a low simmer. Cover the pot and allow the curry to simmer for about 15 minutes, until the potato is fork tender. Make sure to uncover the pot and give it a stir every few minutes, scraping the bottom of the pot with a spoon to prevent the sauce from scorching.
  • Uncover the pot and let the curry continue simmering for about 5 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly and the vegetables are very tender.
  • Stir in the peas and continue simmering the curry for about 1 minute, just to heat up the peas.
  • Remove the pot from heat and season the korma with additional salt to taste, as well as black pepper.
  • Serve with basmati rice and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro.

Notes

  1. If you’re using a larger blending device and have trouble getting the mixture smooth, add up to ½ cup of water, then subtract the amount of water that used when you add water to the curry in step 6.
  2. This recipe make a mild curry. For some heat, add a bit of cayenne pepper in step 4. For more intense flavor, increase the amount of garam masala.
  3. Nutrition information does not include rice.

DVIDS – News – Blanchfield pediatric clinic observes ‘Unicorns for Natty’ Day

FORT CAMPBELL, KY, UNITED STATES

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – Although it’s not an official federal holiday, the team from Blanchfield Army Community Hospital’s Young Eagle Medical Home came to work ready to celebrate National Unicorn Day.

Team members in the pediatric-based clinic, which provides a full spectrum of pediatric care to children 17 years of age and younger, wore specially printed unicorn tee shirts. Some nurses wore unicorn patterned scrubs and a few team members even had headbands that made it appear as though they had magical unicorn horns.

Unicorn Day is a big deal in the clinic. Not only is it a day dedicated to the beloved creature popular with young patients, in YEMH it’s also a day dedicated to celebrating the life of a special little girl who loved them so.

“There is actually National Unicorn Day, April 9, which fell on Easter this year. My granddaughter, Natalia, who was about 3 years old at the time, was having a bath and insisted on calling her ‘Big Grandma’, April 13, to tell her THAT day was National Unicorn Day,” said YEMH nurse Jennifer Huttman, explaining why the team celebrates on April 13.

A day dedicated to unicorns delighted Natalia, who Huttman and her family called Natty, for short.

“She was so excited. Everything was great and she was so thrilled. She passed away four and a half years ago from an accident, so we remember her by celebrating Unicorn Day,” explained Huttman, who admitted it took a couple of years before she could face the day that was so special to Natty.

“The loss of a child is an intense, overwhelming, and deeply painful experience. Some common feelings after losing a child include intense sadness, anxiety, difficulty accepting, confusion, loneliness, guilt, anger, loss of motivation to do anything,” said Lisa Broadhead, a licensed clinical social worker from the hospital’s Family Advocacy Program. “There is no right or wrong way to feel and the symptoms are varied.”

Friends can show their support by being available and acknowledging the loss.

“We tend to want to find the right words or phrases to say that will make them feel better. However, these words simply don’t exist. Therefore, I tend to find that I’ll listen and let them share about frustrations, challenges, angers, and such,” said U.S. Army Chaplain (Maj) Jeremiah Catlin, the hospital’s chaplain, and Chief of Ministry & Pastoral Care.

Catlin supports patients and staff with spiritual and religious concerns and conducts the hospital’s Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group.

For families and coworkers who want to support someone grieving the loss of a child, Catlin said that it is important to know that your words will not make it better.

“Your focus is to be there for them when they reach out to you for help. Many times the simple daily tasks at first, making meals, paying bills, taking other children to school, household chores are all the tough things to handle when life hurts. Helping them by offering to meet some of their most simple tasks and needs will speak volumes and will open you up to being present when they do want to ‘talk’,” he added.

At such a time, Catlin said to remember to offer empathy. “It’s different than sympathy. If you ever start your words of wisdom towards them with ‘At least…’ you’re likely going the wrong direction. Focus on actions that speak louder than the words and you’ll do more for those grieving such a loss.”

“Just show it. You may not know what to say but being present is important. Listen without offering advice, judgement or solutions – being able to talk about their feelings or memories of their child may be their greatest support,” added Broadhead.

“We have a great team and we all rally around Ms. Huttman at this time and keep her smiling,” said Nancy Pacheco, a YEMH Health Tech who helped organize the event. “Natty loved unicorns and since she passed away, it is one of our ways to keep Natty with us yearly.”

Huttman’s team members in YEMH also organized a potluck lunch, which served as an opportunity for them to come together show their support for Huttman and her family and remember a special little girl.

“My team is amazing. Young Eagle is one of the absolute best places to work. They are very supportive. We try to be a family because we spend so much time together anyway,” said Huttman, who was touched by support from her team.

“A lot of the patients asked if it was pajama day, or what the special occasion was and we told them it was National Unicorn Day and we were remembering my granddaughter. She loved unicorns. Those were the best things in the world to her,” said Huttman.

Whittier Union’s longest-standing board member announces retirement after 32 years of service – Whittier Daily News

The longest-standing member of the Whittier Union High School District Board of Trustees, Ralph Pacheco, recently announced his retirement from the board after 32 years of serving the district.

Pacheco – who has been on the board since 1991 and serves as the Board vice president – made the announcement to his colleagues and community members during the April 11 board meeting.

He will officially retire from the Board of Trustees effective July 7, though his current term runs through November 2024.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve alongside each of my colleagues during this time, and I am very humbled and grateful to have been elected by the community over all these years,” Pacheco said during the meeting via teleconference.

“I want to thank all those present this evening, as well as our dedicated teachers and staff, for their outstanding efforts in bringing out the best in our student body,” he said.

Throughout his tenure, Pacheco has been an active member of the community, serving on many distinguished civic, college, and community service agency boards and commissions.

He is also an ordained minister and co-founder of the Leadership Capacity Foundation, Inc. – a nonprofit faith-based organization supporting community development and education projects in California.

Pacheco’s wife, Deborah, has also been active in education and served as an elected member of the South Whittier School District Board of Education from 2001 to 2022. Together, they have three children and nine grandchildren, all of whom attended the Whittier Union High School District.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to serve alongside Dr. Pacheco throughout these years,” Board President Jaime López said.

“Dr. Pacheco has always put the needs of students first and I have always admired his dedication to the success of the District,” López said in a statement. “We are grateful to have such a distinguished individual on the Board and will continue to advocate for student success every day, just as he did.”

During his time on the board, Pacheco collaborated with five distinct superintendents and played an instrumental role in advocating for and passing three community bond measures to benefit the district, according to a press release.

Pacheco supported the district’s construction and modernization project, which began in 1998 when voters passed the $98 million Measure C bond and continued with the $75 million Measure W bond in 2008. These bonds led to improvements to classrooms, libraries, gymnasiums, cafeterias, infrastructure and athletic facilities.

In 2020, Pacheco demonstrated his leadership abilities by steering the district toward the successful passage of the $183 million Measure AA bond, designed to augment the infrastructure of each of the district’s comprehensive high schools and also provide security enhancements.

“Dr. Pacheco’s unwavering commitment to the District and its students has been a hallmark of his tenure, and we extend our deepest gratitude for his years of expert service,” Superintendent Monica Oviedo said.

“Whittier Union remains fully dedicated to doing ‘Whatever It Takes’ to ensure the success of our students, and we will continue to build upon the outstanding work that Dr. Pacheco has accomplished during his tenure,” Oviedo said in a statement. “He will be greatly missed as a member of the Board of Trustees, but we know he will continue to achieve great things upon his retirement.”

In addition to his service on the Board of Trustees, Pacheco served multiple terms as a Governing Board Member of the Tri-Cities Regional Occupational Program and as a formerly elected Trustee of the Río Hondo Community College District. He also taught as an Adjunct Professor of Biblical Studies at Regency Bible College.

“I look forward to hearing about all of the success and achievements of our students and supporting the District as it continues to achieve and maintain excellence,” Pacheco said.

During the Whittier Union Board meeting on Tuesday, May 9, at 7 p.m., the Board and Oviedo will discuss a course of action for the future of the board. The meeting will be held at the District Board Room located at 9401 S. Painter Ave., Whittier.

Navigating The Jungle: Amazon Vendor Services Guide

From product optimization to marketing strategies, our comprehensive guide covers everything you need to know to succeed with Amazon Vendor Services

There are two classes of Amazon Vendor Services; those provided by Amazon and those offered by third parties. We start by covering Amazon’s service offerings and then highlight data services that can be leveraged by Amazon partners, consultants, or tools.

What is Amazon Vendor Services (AVS)?

Amazon Vendor Services (AVS), also formerly Amazon Strategic Vendor Services (SVS), is a program that Amazon offers to select vendors and manufacturers who sell their products on the Amazon marketplace. The AVS program is designed to provide vendors with additional services and support purpose-built to help them grow their sales and increase their visibility on Amazon.

Amazon Vendor Services (AVS) Benefits

Some of the services offered through the AVS program include;

  • Someone to talk to at Amazon! You get a vendor account manager.
  • Marketing support, such as funding for sponsored product ads, to help vendors increase visibility for their products on Amazon
  • Assistance with product optimization and merchandizing to help vendors improve their product listings and increase conversion rates
  • Collaboration with Amazon’s product development teams to create new products or product lines

The services provided through the AVS program can vary depending on the vendor’s performance and needs.

What does an Amazon vendor account manager do?

An Amazon Vendor Account Manager is a dedicated point of contact who works with vendors enrolled in Amazon’s Vendor Services program, specifically Amazon Vendor Services — Signature (AVS-Signature).

An Amazon Vendor Account Manager will help vendors grow their sales and improve their visibility on Amazon. This can include providing guidance on product optimization and merchandising, creating and managing marketing and promotional campaigns, and providing access to exclusive data and analytics.

Some of the critical responsibilities of an Amazon Vendor Account Manager can include:

  • Assisting with product optimization and merchandising to increase visibility and sales
  • Guiding advertising and promotional campaigns on Amazon
  • Providing access to exclusive data and analytics to help vendors make informed decisions about their product mix and marketing strategies
  • Helping vendors navigate the complexities of Amazon’s systems and processes
  • Providing recommendations on new services and features available on Amazon
  • Communicating changes to policies and requirements from Amazon
  • Identifying and addressing any performance issues vendors might face.

Taking It To The Next Level: Amazon Vendor Services — Signature

Amazon Vendor Services — Signature is an enhanced version of Amazon’s Vendor Services (AVS) program. This plus-up program offers vendors an even higher level of service and support. With AVS-Signature, Amazon vendors have direct access to a dedicated account manager. A vendor account manager will partner in strategy, promotions, and operational know-how to help them grow sales and profitability on Amazon.

Some of the additional services and benefits offered through the AVS-Signature program include:

  • Priority product placement and merchandising on Amazon’s website
  • Customized marketing and promotional campaigns
  • Increased visibility for products through Amazon’s product recommendations and targeted marketing programs
  • Access to exclusive data and analytics
  • Assistance with product optimization and merchandising
  • Early access to new Amazon services and features

To qualify for the AVS-Signature program has high thresholds to meet. Specifically, vendors must meet the same criteria required for the AVS program, such as having a well-established brand, a large selection of high-quality products, and exceeding Amazon’s standards for product quality and customer service.

Amazon says that this program is only open to tier-one, retail-managed vendors.

How to enroll in Amazon Vendor Services (AVS)

The enrollment process for the Amazon Vendor Services program is by invitation only. Amazon generally reaches out to vendors they believe are well-suited for the program. However, if you are interested in enrolling in the AVS program, here are some steps you can take:

  1. Meet the eligibility criteria: Before you can apply for the AVS-Signature program, you need to meet specific criteria such as having a well-established brand, a large selection of high-quality products, and meeting Amazon’s standards for product quality and customer service. In addition, you must also have a history of solid sales and a proven track record of success on the Amazon platform.
  2. Contact Amazon: Contact your Amazon account manager, or email the AVS team directly, expressing your interest in joining the program and highlighting your qualifications.
  3. Provide information: If Amazon is interested in your application, they may request additional information, such as your product catalog, sales data, or other business details.
  4. Review and selection: Amazon will review your application and other provided information, and if you meet the criteria, they will invite you to join the program.
  5. Sign agreement and Onboarding: Once the invitation is accepted, Amazon will provide a contract for the program and the required information for onboarding; the vendors will have to sign the deal and provide the information required for the onboarding process.

The enrollment process and the selection criteria may vary based on the region, time, and Amazon’s business objectives, so it’s a good idea to keep in touch with your account manager and stay updated on the latest enrollment requirements.

The rupture of a tailings dam causes several social, economic, and environmental impacts because people can die, the devastation caused by the debris and mud waves is expressive and the released substances may be toxic to the ecosystem and humans. There were two major dam failures in the Minas Gerais state, Brazil, in the last decade. The first was in 2015 in the city of Mariana and the second was in 2019 in the municipality of Brumadinho. The extent of land use and cover changes derived from those collapses were an expression of their impacts. Thus, knowing the changes to land use and cover after these disasters is essential to help repair or mitigate environmental degradation. This study aimed to diagnose the changes to land cover that occurred after the failure of dam B1 in Brumadinho that affected the Ferro-Carvão stream watershed. In addition to the environmental objective, there was the intention of investigating the impact of image preparation, as well as the spatial and spectral resolution on the classification’s accuracy. To accomplish the goals, visible and near-infrared bands from Landsat (30 m), Sentinel-2 (10 m), and PlanetScope Dove (4.77 m) images collected between 2018 and 2021 were processed on the Google Earth Engine platform. The Pixel Reduction to Median tool was used to prepare the record of images, and then the random forest algorithm was used to detect the changes in land cover caused by the tailings dam failure under the different spatial and spectral resolutions and to provide the corresponding measures of accuracy. The results showed that the spatial resolution of the images affects the accuracy, but also that the selected algorithm and images were all capable of accurately classifying land use and cover in the Ferro-Carvão watershed and their changes over time. After the failure, mining/tailings areas increased in the impacted zone of the Ferro-Carvão stream, while native forest, pasture, and agricultural lands declined, exposing the environmental deterioration. The environment recovered in subsequent years (2020–2021) due to tailings removal and mobilization.
