Larissa Pacheco Predicts First-Round Finish of Marina Mokhnatkina in PFL Final

After reaching the PFL Championships with a pair of first-round
knockout victories, Larissa
Pacheco is preparing to face Marina
Mokhnatkina on Nov. 24 with $1 million on the line.

Last week Pacheco traveled from Belem, Brazil, to Rio de Janeiro to
film countdown videos for the PFL along with other Brazilian
finalists Renan
Ferreira (heavyweight) and Gabriel
Braga (featherweight). Joshua
Silveira was also present after arriving with his father, Conan
Silveira, to learn more about his Carlson Gracie origins.

“Last Friday we woke up at 3 a.m. to do filming at Botafogo beach
while the sun rose. I also renewed my visa and did a couple (social
media posts),” Pacheco told Sherdog.com.

In regards to her opponent in the featherweight final, Pacheco did
not express much concern.

“Her fights are pretty much the same. I predicted how she would
win. Actually, she has a pretty similar game to Kayla [Harrison],
but on another level. She will try to take me down and submit me.
But to take me down, she will have to pass through my hands. Let´s
see if she is able to stand,” Pacheco said.

“Also, my hands are heavy and I’m winning a lot of fights by
knockout, so people sometimes forget that I ́m also a second-degree
black belt. Even if she takes me down, I’m really well trained on
the ground. She is a tough girl, but I believe I´m on a different
level. Her game fits well for mine. My plan is to win in the first
round.”

With the PFL’s introduction of a regular pay-per-view superfight
division, Pacheco believes a fourth meeting with Harrison, whom she
upset in the 2022 lightweight final, is much more realistic.

“Now that PFL has started to do superfights, I dont believe she
will go to another organization [since] there are other girls
coming,” Pacheco said. “So a fourth fight is possible.”

The 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians kicks off in Hanoi

About 500 delegates attended the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians opened today [September 15] at the National Convention Center in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The delegates, including 300 from abroad, gathered at the event, which will run between September 14 and 17.

On September 14, a seminar on enhancing digital literacy among youth was held, which identified the need to raise awareness and improve the skills of Vietnamese youth by enhancing their digital knowledge and skills.

In his remarks, Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong sent his greetings to the delegates and welcomed them to Hanoi for the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians.

He said that young people have advantages to make the most of the opportunities brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

“They are the key to opening new doors to the new era and the future of the world, who will address global issues,” the President added.

He said technologies will foster international cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations and better involve young people in tackling the world’s key issues.

He hoped that the Vietnamese National Assembly would strengthen cooperation with international friends and partners to implement all decisions and ideas at the conference and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), thus boosting global sustainable development.

In his remarks, Vuong Dinh Hue, Chairman of Vietnam’s National Assemblysaid it is an honor for Vietnam to host the event.

“The event confirms Vietnam’s proactive and responsible status to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and shows our attention to youth and global issues,” he said.

According to him, pandemics, geopolitical tensions, wars and other adversities have undermined achievements in poverty reduction and sustainable development.

Emphasizing that young parliamentarians will be crucial in the world of the future, he expected delegates and participants to discuss ways to uphold international laws, promote the role and leadership of young people and entrepreneurs in solving global issues, put people and businesses at the center of socio-economic growth, and promote and diversify cultural values in sustainable development.

IPU President Duarte Pacheco spoke highly of Vietnam’s commitment to empowering young generations.

He said the world needs similar types of conferences to unite young parliamentarians, strengthen their capacity, and discuss potential development strategies for the future.

Fierro defends his WBO NABO Lightweight title on Friday night in Tijuana

Eddie Hearn: I believe that this is one of our strongest cards so far in Mexico, of course, headlined by the local hero, Angel Fierro in a big fight as he gears up for a shot at the World Lightweight title. There are so many big fights on the card with an interim World title fight for Skye Nicolson, a return to the ring for Erika Cruz and some great young fighters on the card.

Angel Fierro (21-1-2 7 KOs) defends his WBO NABO Lightweight title against Brayan Zamarripa over ten rounds:

“It’s a very important fight that I have coming up, it’s almost like he’s the shark that’s coming for me. But I am not intimidated by this challenge that’s in front of me and I am looking forward to the fight.

“I know going into this fight that he is going to come in and do his best to beat me, I respect him as a fighter, he’s coming for war and when you get two Mexicans going into the ring, you are guaranteed a war; but if I want to be World champion, I need to take this step and beat my opponent to show I am ready for my World title shot.

“It’s great to be fighting at home for so long not being here and it’s an extra motivation that it’s on Mexican Independence weekend.”

Brayan Zamarripa (13-1 4 KOs) challenges Angel Fierro for the WBO NABO Lightweight title over ten rounds:

“Victory on Friday night, wow, it’s going to mean a lot to me as I have been looking for an opportunity like this all my life, it’s going to be great, and I am ready for this. I’m going to take the moment.”

Erika Cruz (15-2 3 KOs) faces Melissa Oddessa Parker for the WBA Continental Americas Super-Bantamweight title over ten rounds:

“It’s great to be able to fight on such an important date as September 15. I’m going to give the fans a Mexican battle. I am happy with the performance I put in against Amanda Serrano, and I would love a rematch in the future, but we must take it step by step.

“In terms of the weight, fighting at this weight is no problem as I started my career at this weight and moved to Featherweight for various opportunities. Thank you to Melissa for coming to Mexico, what I promise from my side is a war and I will give 100 per cent.”

Melissa Oddessa Parker (6-1 2 KOs) faces Erika Cruz for the WBA Continental Americas Super-Bantamweight title over ten rounds:

Role of Agricultural Consultants

As the world’s population continues to grow and climate change becomes an increasingly pressing issue, the role of agricultural consultants has never been more crucial. These experts play a vital part in helping farmers and agricultural businesses optimize their operations for maximum efficiency and sustainability. One area where agricultural consultants make a significant impact is in water conservation.

Optimizing Crop Production

Agricultural consultants work closely with farmers to develop strategies for maximizing crop production while minimizing water usage. Through careful analysis of soil conditions, crop requirements, and weather patterns, consultants can provide valuable insights and recommendations on irrigation techniques, scheduling, and water-efficient technologies.

Some of the key strategies that agricultural consultants employ include:

  • Precision Irrigation: Agricultural consultants help farmers implement precision irrigation systems, which use technologies such as sensors and real-time data analysis to deliver the right amount of water to crops at the right time. This approach minimizes water wastage and ensures that plants receive adequate hydration for optimal growth.
  • Crop Selection and Rotation: Consultants assist farmers in selecting crops that are well-suited to the local climate and soil conditions, reducing the need for excessive watering. They also advise on crop rotation techniques that help conserve water by promoting soil health and preventing waterborne diseases.

Soil Management

Another essential aspect of water conservation in agriculture is soil management. Agricultural consultants work closely with farmers to develop sustainable soil practices that improve water retention and reduce runoff. These practices include:

White Butts and Elk Ruts

Bordering Santa Clara Valley to the east is the Diablo Range, which is home to a rare population of tule elk that roam the hillsides. And August through November is a critical time for these animals, because it’s breeding, or rut season!

Keep reading to learn more about tule elk.

Tule elk are large, weighing hundreds of pounds and averaging seven feet long and 4-5 feet tall. These ungulates, or hooved mammals, are light brown with a darker brown mane around their necks, and a white rump, or backside. Their babies, or calves, resemble deer fawns, with light brown spotted coats. Tule elk are grazers, consuming annual and perennial grasses, herbs, woody shrubs, and trees.

Fun fact: an adult elk often eats around 15 pounds of food each day!

Historically, tule elk’s grazing habits played an essential role in managing the amount of vegetation found in these native California landscapes and preventing large-scale wildfires, a job now largely taken on by cattle. In fact, cattle grazing is complimentary to the native elk grazing because the cattle eat the non-native grasses that originated from the same place as, and evolved alongside, the cattle.

During rut season, which peaks in October and November, the most common breeding ritual for these animals is called bugling (pronounced “byoo-guh-ling”). The male elk, or bull, makes loud noises to attract a female elk, known as a cow. The gestation period is roughly 255 days, and calves are born around May. The average female has five to six calves in her lifetime, but only around 10% of males successfully mate, which makes the process highly competitive and often causes fighting between the bulls. When bulls fight, they put on dramatic displays, repeatedly clashing their antlers together.

Endemic to California, tule elk are found nowhere else in the United States. Starting in the 1800s, these animals, once abundant, were hunted to near extinction until they received federal protection in the 1970s. Now, there are an estimated 5,700 individuals roaming throughout California, and numbers are increasing.

While the species has made a remarkable recovery over the last two centuries and the population is largely increasing, they are still threatened by habitat fragmentation and destruction. Depending on the quality of the habitat they occupy, some elk can travel over 15 miles throughout the year to meet their needs for food, water, and shelter.
