Kansas City Chiefs stock watch: Which players impressed during Week 3?

The Kansas City Chiefs handled business at home in Week 3 after defeating the Chicago Bears.

The Chiefs offense didn’t hold back with their aggressive mindset against the Bears team dealing with issues on and off the field. The spotlight was on All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce because of a very notable appearance of his special guest, Taylor Swift. The running backs, led by Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon, were threats in the red zone, collecting touchdowns in the passing game and on the ground.

The defense has done more than earn respect around the league as they terrorized Bears quarterback Justin Fields all day. All-Pro Chris Jones added another sack, Mike Edwards, with an interception and a forced fumble from Trent McDuffie.

The Chiefs showed dominance, silencing critics worried about their issues on offense to start the season and treating an embattled Bears squad as the launching pad.

Here’s a look at how the stock is trending for some players after the Week 3 victory at Arrowhead Stadium:

Stock Up: Travis Kelce

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The spotlight was on Kelce a little more than usual this week as his special guest, Taylor Swift, was in attendance sitting in a suite next to his mother Donna enjoying the Chiefs’ dominant victory. Kelce finished with seven catches for 69 yards and a touchdown inciting celebrations from that particular suite and the thousands at Arrowhead Stadium.

Stock Up: Patrick Mahomes

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Outside of an ankle tweak before halftime, Mahomes was flawless in his execution, getting everything he wanted against the Bears’ defense. The reigning league MVP finished with 272 yards and three touchdown passes as he reached another career milestone, becoming the fastest to 25,000 career passing yards.

Stock Up: Jerick McKinnon

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

After not showing much production in the first two games this season, McKinnon erupted on Sunday for two touchdown receptions in the first half. He ended the day with three catches overall but reignited the chemistry he developed with Mahomes last season.

Stock Up: Isiah Pacheco

The angry running style of Pacheco was on display in Sunday’s victory as he helped balance the offensive attack, confusing the Chicago defense. Pacheco led the team in rushing with 15 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown without playing much in the second half due to the significant lead.

Stock Up: Chris Jones

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

There is no training camp, no preseason, and still not much of a problem for Jones as he continues to dominate on the defensive line. The veteran defensive star collected another sack on Sunday while helping lead the charge in pressuring Justin Fields into a rough game.

Unearthing the Truth: The Remarkable Legacy of Francisco Eduardo Pacheco

Francisco Eduardo Pacheco: A Visionary Journalist Ahead of His Time

Biography:

Born in 1852, Francisco Eduardo Pacheco was a prominent journalist and writer known for his pioneering work in the field of investigative journalism during the late 19th century. Born into a modest family in a small town, Pacheco’s insatiable curiosity and thirst for knowledge led him on a remarkable journey that would make him one of the most influential journalists of his time.

From an early age, Pacheco showed an exceptional aptitude for literature and writing. Growing up in an era defined by political upheaval and social change, he recognized the power wielded by the written word to shape public opinion and effect meaningful reform. Driven by these beliefs, he dedicated himself to honing his writing skills and embracing journalism as both his vocation and mission.

Despite limited resources, Pacheco’s determination pushed him to overcome numerous obstacles on his path to success. In pursuit of higher education, he attended local schools where he excelled academically. He devoured all available literature within reach while nurturing a deep fascination with politics, sociocultural affairs, and historical events that would later lay the foundation for his illustrious journalistic career.

After completing his education at a renowned university, Francisco Eduardo Pacheco embarked on what would be long years of apprenticeship under various influential newspapers across different cities. During this period marked by harsh realities faced by young journalists due to censorship laws prevalent at the time, Pacheco witnessed firsthand how media could be manipulated as merely mouthpieces for those in power.

In response to these challenges faced by journalists striving for truth and impartial reporting amidst an often corrupt environment, Francisco Eduardo Pacheco became one of the pioneering advocates for investigative journalism. He firmly believed that uncovering stories buried beneath layers of deception was not only essential but also crucial towards fostering societal progress.

Pacheco’s groundbreaking work earned him accolades and recognition throughout his career. Raising public awareness on issues related to social inequality, political corruption, and human rights abuses, he became a leading voice within the journalistic community. Pacheco’s dedication to thorough research and unbiased reporting set him apart from his contemporaries, earning him the respect of both fellow journalists and readers alike.

Aside from his investigative journalism pursuits, Francisco Eduardo Pacheco was also a prolific writer. He authored numerous essays and articles on diverse topics such as literature, philosophy, history, and international affairs. Some of his most notable works included in-depth profiles of influential figures who had previously escaped public scrutiny due to their positions of power.

Throughout his remarkable career spanning several decades, Pacheco never wavered in his commitment to speaking truth to power. His relentless pursuit of facts often placed him in precarious situations; he faced threats from corrupt politicians, powerful business magnates seeking to preserve their vested interests, and even retribution from criminal organizations exposed by his groundbreaking investigations.

Francisco Eduardo Pacheco’s legacy endures long after his passing in 1920. He remains an inspirational figure for aspiring journalists who follow in his footsteps while navigating through similar challenges faced during that era. His tireless efforts towards unearthing hidden truths laid the foundation for modern investigative journalism techniques used today.

Pioneering journalist Francisco Eduardo Pacheco was a visionary whose profound impact on the field continues to shape ethical standards within journalism around the world today. Through championing transparency and truthfulness despite considerable opposition during turbulent times in history makes Pacheco an exemplary figure whose legacy lives on as an enduring testament to the importance of journalistic integrity and pursuit of justice for all humankind.

iSight Optometry RECAP: McMillen posts three point night in Rockets overtime loss to Winterhawks

The Kelowna Rockets opened their 2023-24 regular season schedule with a 6-5 overtime loss to the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday night at Prospera Place.

It was a high-scoring affair, that saw 2006-born goaltenders Jake Pilon and Luke Brunen both make their first WHL ever regular season starts.

Kelowna opened the scoring, but Portland quickly charged back to take the lead by the end of the first period Portland led 4-2. The Rockets responded with three unanswered goals to hold 5-4 lead just past the midway point of the third period, but the Winterhawks made another push to force the game into overtime, where Marcus Nguyen scored the game-winner.

“First period, you’ve got a rookie goaltender in there and a real young back end, some guys up front that were chomping at the bit to get after it,” said Kris Mallette in his postgame interview.

“We took some ill-advised penalties and got off to a start that we didn’t really want. But (we had) a real good second period, something that we weren’t able to do last year, win a bunch of second periods. So we came out of that with confidence, so it was a good first start.”

Twenty-year-old forward Turner McMillen earned the game’s second star after recording a team-high three-point (2G, 1A) night.

Kelowna was without Andrew Cristall (WSH), Jackson DeSouza (DET) and Jari Kykkanen (CAL), who are all away at NHL camps. Veteran players Marcus Pacheco (2-4 weeks) and Caden Price (week-to-week) both missed the game due to lower-body injuries.

While on the man advantage, Marek Rocak’s shot found it’s way through the crowd where Turner McMillen (1) got a piece of it. Nicholas Johnson (1) and Gabe Klassen (2) would hold off the Rockets with a pair of goals to head into the first intermission with a 4-2 lead.

Ethan Neutens (1) chipped in a power play goal 3:06 into the second frame. Michael Cicek fed the puck cross-ice to a charging  Turner McMillen (2) for his second of the game.

Tied at four heading into the third period, the puck went off of Trae Johnson’s (1) skate and into the net with 7:50 to play in regulation. Nicholas Johnson (2) once again tied the game.

Vegetable and Butcher to Relocate Headquarters to Prince George’s County and Expecting to Create Additional 100+ Jobs – Southern Maryland News Net | Southern Maryland News Net

“Vegetable meets Butcher. Vegan meets paleo[ish]. Ariane meets Turner (it was actually the other way around, but hey, we’re trying to keep a rhythm here). We started V+B to create more time; more time for our friends, families and, most importantly, ourselves. We work hard and live active lives, which means we don’t always have time to shop, prep, cook and clean. Our solution – Vegetable and Butcher. We hope that by experiencing the V+B life, you can trust us to deliver great food that’s great for you – so you can focus on you.”

“We are ecstatic to welcome Vegetable and Butcher to the Prince George’s County business community,” said Gov. Moore. “The company has a strong commitment to working with farmers and growers while providing nourishing meals to families throughout the region. Its mission is admirable and we are proud to have the company select Maryland for its new headquarters location.”

Formed in 2016, Vegetable and Butcher delivers ready-to-eat meals to approximately 150 zip codes in the Mid Atlantic region. The company offers two types of chef-inspired meals – plant-based or with animal protein – and are always dairy and gluten-free. Since its launch, the company has delivered more than 1 million meals to people in the area and currently donates hundreds of meals each week to assist those in need.

“We find ourselves in an unprecedented and exciting time at Vegetable and Butcher,” said Vegetable and Butcher Founder Turner Hoff. “If there’s anything the past few years have taught us, it is that the way we access and enjoy food has transformed in unimaginable ways. Truth is, digital access and personalization mean we are unlikely ever to return to a solely physical dining experience. But there’s a powerful upside to this deluge of change: Eaters today are more empowered and informed than ever before. That’s what makes us excited. The food industry has exposed its resiliency and its vulnerabilities—and it is our honor and privilege to help define what the industry can become.”

“We’ve spent an incredible amount of energy streamlining a vertically integrated approach to our business, and we aspire to take our approach much further,” said Vegetable and Butcher Co-Founder and Chief Experience Officer Ariane Valle. “When we commit to securing a regional farmer’s harvest, we create impact. When we build embedded supply chains that support local communities, we become a catalyst for change. And when we let our values lead the way, we can completely redefine what it means to be a food ecosystem.”

To assist with project costs, the Maryland Department of Commerce has approved a $480,000 conditional grant through Advantage Maryland. Additionally, Prince George’s County is providing a $480,000 conditional loan through its Economic Development Incentive Fund to help the company complete the project. Vegetable and Butcher is also eligible for various other incentives and tax credits, including the More Jobs for Marylanders program and the state’s Job Creation Tax Credit.

“By moving to Upper Marlboro, Vegetable and Butcher can maintain quick access to its Washington, D.C. customer base while benefiting from Maryland’s talented workforce,” said Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Kevin Anderson. “With nearly 200 new jobs being created in Prince George’s County, the company will make a significant impact locally as it continues its growth in the Mid Atlantic.”

“We are Prince George’s Proud that Vegetable and Butcher has chosen Prince George’s County as the new home of their headquarters and manufacturing facility,” said Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks. “Throughout our administration, we have remained committed to bringing quality businesses and amenities to our county, as well as providing meaningful employment opportunities for our residents right in their own community. We also recognize that our residents should have access to a range of healthy food options, and we are pleased that Vegetable and Butcher will offer a variety of healthy choices to Prince Georgians.”

Bears remain winless, fall to Kansas City for 13th consecutive loss – CBS Chicago

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns, Travis Kelce hauled in one of them to the delight of Taylor Swift, and the Kansas City Chiefs blew out the inept Chicago Bears 41-10 on Sunday.

Jerick McKinnon had a pair of touchdown catches and Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire added touchdown runs, helping the Super Bowl champion Chiefs (2-1) deal the Bears (0-3) their 13th consecutive loss dating to last season.

Kelce finished with seven catches for 69 yards and the 3-yard score, which made it 41-0 early in the second half. The All-Pro tight end celebrated by revving the engine of an imaginary motorcycle while Swift, whom Kelce had invited amid rumors of their budding relationship, joyfully pounded the glass of her Arrowhead Stadium suite and his mother, Donna Kelce, cheered alongside.

The game was so lopsided by the third quarter that Mahomes and most of the Chiefs’ starters got the rest of the day off.

Embattled Bears quarterback Justin Fields was 11 of 22 for 99 yards with an interception and a meaningless touchdown in the final minutes. He also led the Bears with 47 yards rushing, a good chunk of that coming on a 17-yard scramble, as the league’s 27th-ranked offense finished with just 203 yards against one of the NFL’s fast-improving defenses.

It was a brutal end to a dismal week of distractions for Chicago.

In the span of a few hours Wednesday, defensive coordinator Alan Williams abruptly resigned, citing the need “to take care of my health and family,” and Fields had to walk back some comments he made blaming his “robotic” play through the first two weeks on the way he had been coached.

Bears coach Matt Eberflus was left to call defensive plays Sunday, just as he did in last weekend’s loss to Tampa Bay, and Chiefs coach Andy Reid proceeded to make the former Indianapolis Colts coordinator look utterly lost.

The Chiefs began their assault with the first of Mahomes’ two TD passes to McKinnon, then Edwards-Helaire scored from a yard out to make it 14-0 early in the second quarter. When the Bears punted a third consecutive time, Mahomes hit McKinnon again to extend the lead, and Kansas City proceeded to score on its next four possessions.

As for Fields, well, the QB was not just robotic but inaccurate. When one of the league’s most porous offensive lines wasn’t allowing the Chiefs to pressure him, Fields was consistently missing open targets down field.

He was picked off by Mike Edwards late in the first half, leading to Pacheco’s touchdown run. And when Harrison Butker added the second of his two field goals, the Chiefs were able to take a 34-0 lead into the break.

STATS AND STREAKS

The Bears have not won in Kansas City since Week 5 of the 2015 season. … Reid won his 271st game, moving him past Hall of Fame coach Tom Landry into fourth place on the career list. … Mahomes went over 25,000 yards passing for his career. He did it in 83 games, the fastest in NFL history. … Mahomes had his 22nd game with three TD passes and no interceptions, tying Aaron Rodgers for the most by a QB before turning 30. Mahomes turned 28 last Sunday. … Kelce needs three more TD catches to pass Tony Gonzalez (76) for second in Chiefs history.

INJURIES

Bears: Starting safety Eddie Jackson was inactive with a foot injury and cornerback Josh Blackwell was dealing with a hamstring injury, all before cornerback Tyrique Stevenson had to be evaluated for a concussion; he later was deemed to have an illness and did not return. Defensive backs Jaquan Brisker and Jaylon Johnson also were hobbled during the game.

UP NEXT

Bears: Host the Denver Broncos next Sunday.

Chiefs: Visit the New York Jets next Sunday night.

A South End Guide to Hispanic Heritage Month 2023 | South Seattle Emerald

In the last 10 years, Latinos have become one of the fastest-growing communities in King County, and with that comes their booming cultural scene. The culture — their arts, music, and dances — are particularly on display during Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sep. 15 to Oct. 15. September is when countries like Mexico, Chile, and El Salvador celebrate their Independence from Spain. Last week, Sea Mar hosted a parade in South Park and organized El Grito (the shout) — a celebration of Mexican independence — in Seattle Center, but that marks just the beginning.

Across the region, Latino communities and organizations are offering a wide variety of ways to honor and enjoy the culture of our Latino neighbors. From festivals and dance performances to the history of tacos, the Emerald has them noted below.

Want your Hispanic Heritage event included? Let us know at [email protected].

A little further south in Tacoma, also as part of MEXAM NW, Latinxs Unidos of South Sound and Tacoma Arts Live are hosting Festival Latinx. On Oct. 14, attendees will get their fair share of performances, music, and arts. A mercadito will also be offering artisanal gifts and food to buy and enjoy.

Salsa and bachata aficionados, look no further than SeaTac’s Hilton Hotel. From Oct. 12 to 14, the hotel will be bursting with dancers as professionals and amateurs gather for the Seattle Latin Dance Festival. Sponsored by Bellevue Dance Studio, the festival will have workshops and boot camps with pros during the day. Later in the night, expect performances and social dances.

Burien has a thriving Latino community. Take a short walk around its downtown and you’ll likely see dozens of Latino-owned businesses, from the MarBel Boutique, its windows brimming with quinceañera dresses, to Botas Exoticas El Lagarto with its storefront stacked with cowboy boots. So it makes sense that Burien will host its own event honoring Latinos on Sep. 23. B-Town Fiesta will be a family-friendly event at Burien Town Square Park, with vendors, live music, and a beer garden. The Fiesta runs from 10 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.

La Catrina is an iconic figure in Mexican culture. She was brought to life by the Mexican artist and printmaker José Guadalupe Posada Aguilar (José Posada) a successful printermaker and lithographer who died before he could see her in print. La Catrina was published in a satirical magazine in 1913. Today she is most often associated with Day of the Dead celebrations, but when Posada created her she was called “La Calavera Garbancera” — a reference to Mexicans who, by dressing more European, deny their own Mexican roots. Mind you this was during the Mexican Revolution, a time when classism was on every Mexican’s mind. Today, La Catrina is part of Mexican identity, a reminder of their revolutionary roots. Come see all the Catrinas in their stylish glory at Seattle’s Town Hall from Nov. 2 to 5.

The annual Seattle Latino Film Festival begins Oct. 6 and runs until Oct. 14. The festival will take place in five venues across King County including The Beacon Cinema on Rainier Avenue and Renton’s Regal Cinema. Its red-carpet opening night will be attended by Undocumented director Christian de la Cortina, and Mexican actor Jorge Martinez Colorado. The film Undocumented — which follows the journey of a Mexican journalist seeking asylum in the U.S. who gets caught up in the abusive world of under-the-table work on a Vermont dairy farm — is just one of many movies listed on the festival’s marquee.

To celebrate their 50th anniversary, Bailadores de Bronce, one of Washington’s legacy folkloric dance troupes will perform a variety of regional dances from around Mexico at the Moore Theatre. Nearly every one of Mexico’s 32 states has its own regional and traditional dance with its own style of dress and choreography. The group is well-known around Washington, and it’s their busy season as they perform across Seattle for different Hispanic Heritage Month events.

Agueda Pacheco is a journalist focusing on Latinx culture and Mexican American identity. Originally from Querétaro, Mexico, Pacheco is inspired by her own bicultural upbringing as an undocumented immigrant and proud Washingtonian.

Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus stresses the need for players to be more detailed and other things we learned Monday

A day after his Chicago Bears fell behind by 41 points in the third quarter on the way to their 13th consecutive loss, Matt Eberflus somehow found a silver lining in reviewing the team’s performance against the Kansas City Chiefs on video.

“I think we’re real close,” Eberflus said Monday at Halas Hall. “I really do. I know a lot of people say, ‘It’s a far ways away.’ I don’t believe that. I think we’re close. And I think it’s more about the details of the individual person.”

“If we just keep doing that right, good things are going to happen.”

With the Bears heading into October at 0-3 and showing so few signs of noticeable improvement, Eberflus will get plenty of outside pushback on that sentiment. His big challenge now is making sure he retains buy-in from players as the Bears work to grab their first win since last fall.

Here are three things we learned Monday in Lake Forest.

1. Eberflus was emphatic in his messaging to his team about focusing on the details of their craft.

That’s hardly a new angle but one the Bears coaches are hoping can ignite something significant as they look ahead to this weekend’s game against a struggling Broncos team. Eberflus used Monday’s team meeting to reiterate his directive.

“It’s really micro-ing it down to the individual,” he said. “How can we focus and get the details right at each position? That’s what execution is. That’s what executing at a high level is. That’s what the good teams do. They have focus every single play at every position — doing their job with speed and being physical. That’s what it takes to win in this league.”

Through three games, the Bears are allowing an average of 35.3 points with the defense recording only one sack. Their first two takeaways of the season came Sunday — interceptions off Chiefs backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert long after the game was out of reach.

The Bears offense, meanwhile, ranks 27th in points scored. Quarterback Justin Fields is coming off a performance in which he threw for only 99 yards with the Bears netting 87 passing yards on 25 plays.

For a coach who has preached the importance of being detail-oriented since the day he was hired, Eberflus was asked why that is still an area where he sees his team lacking.

“We always focus on detail,” he said. “I’m just reemphasizing (it) so we get improvement. You focus on things you need to get improvement on. And that’s what we need to get improvement on at this time.”

2. At 0-3, players will have to dig deep to find the mental and physical investment levels to get this turned around.

Eberflus was asked how he will work to retain buy-in from his locker room when the results are what they have been and the successes are so few and far between.

Rookie running back Roschon Johnson weighed in on that topic as well and stressed the need for players to stay united.

“Regardless of what the coaches say, regardless of how we take it, I think our main thing is to address the mistakes within us,” Johnson said. “So that’s being real with ourselves within each position group and holding each other accountable regardless of what anybody else says first. I feel like that’s how you ultimately grow and ultimately see changing results. It’s when you know the person that is actually playing next to you is holding you to a higher standard than anybody else.”

3. Tyrique Stevenson’s exit from Sunday’s game came amid unusual circumstances.

Stevenson left the field in the first quarter after a collision near the goal line with Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco, which included a spill into a camera along the sideline. Stevenson was originally said to have a neck injury and returned to the game. But he left the field again with the Bears announcing he was being evaluated for a concussion. Later in the afternoon, it was announced by the team that the rookie cornerback was questionable to return with an illness.

“It was weird,” Eberflus said. “They told me both things — in terms of he was in concussion protocol but it really ended up being a neck (issue) and he never got checked for concussion protocol. It was really just his neck is all it was.”

As for the illness?

“I don’t remember from yesterday exactly what it was,” Eberflus said. “Was it ‘illness’?”

Told by a team spokesman that was Sunday’s final designation, Eberflus nodded.

“It was illness,” he said. “We’re not trying to hide anything. They said it was that. That’s what it is.”
