Atlanta, GA — Women’s lightweight 2022 champ and current featherweight Larissa Pacheco has had more of the spotlight on her than ever before after becoming the first fighter to defeat Olympic gold medallist and two-time PFL champ Kayla Harrison.
Pacheco is now one of the favorites to become the first two-division champ in the PFL, with the promotion switching from lightweight to featherweight for the ladies this year. Coming off a win over Julia Budd, Pacheco gave her reaction to the increased attention ahead of PFL 5 in Atlanta.
“It’s not too much of a problem for me, I expected that. I knew that becoming champion, it would be a problem I had,” said Pacheco (20-4). “It’s actually really good, because people talk more about me. I’m ready for it.”
Paired up with Amber Leibrock this Friday, who is fresh off a highlight reel head kick KO, Pacheco had a feeling the fight could be forthcoming.
“I know the event likes to test me, I’ve fought all the big girls in the other division, and I knew that that could be my next opponent — and I’m ready for it.”
Pacheco also touched on the state of the women’s featherweight division, in the wake of Amanda Nunes’ retirement. And she agrees that it’s a good time for the weight class.
“I really do. I think it’s good for the bigger girls, because there’s not only good girls at 125 and 135, there’s a lot of good girls in these divisions. And I think it’s a great opportunity, they deserve an opportunity to show their talent too. So I think it’s really good.”
As for Francis Ngannou signing with the Professional Fighters League, Larissa Pacheco wants on whatever card he’s fighting on. “I would love to be on the same card, I’m sure it’s going to be in a big stadium, bring a lot of visibility. So please, put me on that card!”

After signing with the Professional Fighters League, Amber Leibrock found the perfect place to be in her personal and professional life.
Leibrock (7-4, 1-0 PFL) scored an impressive first-round stoppage in her promotional debut when she crushed Martina Jindrova with a head kick-punches combination at 2023 PFL 2. Leibrock is now riding a four-bout winning streak, but she had to overcome some tough moments in her career. Her past struggles include going on a three-bout skid while competing under the Bellator MMA
banner. While talking with Sherdog, Leibrock admitted that she wasn’t training professionally, had personal issues, and battled mental health and insecurity problems. However, these experiences forced her to reevaluate her life and make significant changes. She worked on her attitude, relationships and sought help from a mental health coach and hypnotherapist. Now, she’s driven by her desire to prove herself and be a role model for those coming from similar backgrounds, showing them that success is possible.
“I didn’t want to end on that kind of note, and I just fixed it all. I fixed my attitude. I fixed the way I was with my training partners, with my coaches. I fixed the way I dealt with relationships, the kind of things I let inside my personal life. I started working with a mental health coach, a hypnotherapist, his name is Richard Hart, and I really started to just dial in on what I wanted, and if I loved it and if I loved it, I was gonna give it everything I got. Yeah, Bellator was rough, but I think it was something I needed, and it’s definitely put me in a position now where mentally I’m in it, physically I’m in it. I’ve never felt better and I’ve definitely, right now, it’s me and me versus my opponent. I no longer work against myself. I work with myself, and I feel like if Bellator didn’t happen, then I wouldn’t be able to be where I’m at and be able to face an opponent like Larissa Pacheco and have a hundred percent confidence that I can go in there and get my hand raised by the end of it.”

women’s featherweight title when she throws hands with Amber
Leibrock in the
PFL 5 co-headliner on Friday at Overtime Elite Arena in
Atlanta. Pacheco enters the cage on the strength of a seven-fight
winning streak that now spans more than three years. She last
appeared at PFL 2, where she was awarded a three-round unanimous
decision over former Bellator
MMA champion Julia Budd in
their April 7 pairing.

of offense. Pacheco applied pressure behind basic one-twos and body
kicks, while Aldana answered with close-range knee strikes and
straight right hands. They traded advantageous positions during
frenetic grappling exchanges for much of the second round, and the
pace ultimately broke Aldana. Pacheco kept her foot on the
accelerator in Round 3, continued to let her hands go and closed it
out with an exquisite multi-punch volley that dropped Aldana to her
knees in the center of the cage and brought about an immediate
stoppage.
Dutch muay thai stylist Germaine
de Randamie took care of Pacheco with punches in the second
round of their UFC 185 women’s bantamweight prelim on March 14,
2015 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. “The Iron Lady”
brought it to a close 2:02 into Round 2. Pacheco, just 20 years of
age at the time, was never competitive. De Randamie stuck her with
a right hand inside the first minute, paired jabs with leg kicks
and answered a clinch from the Brazilian with a jarring knee in
close quarters. In the second round, she staggered Pacheco with a
right uppercut and followed with a series of pinpoint overhand
rights that drove her to the fence and resulted in the stoppage.
The
Ultimate Fighting Championship cut Pacheco following the
defeat, as she slipped to a disappointing 0-2 inside the
Octagon.
Pacheco rebounded from her UFC release and walked away with the
Watch Out Combat Show women’s featherweight championship when she
dispatched Karol Rosa
with a guillotine choke in the second round of their WOCS 49
headliner on March 24, 2018 at the Hotel Laghetto Stilo Barra Rio
in Rio de Janeiro. Rosa conceded defeat 2:59 into Round 2. Pacheco
set the tone with crisp combination punching and stellar takedown
defense. She powered into top position early in the first round,
climbed to a mounted crucifix and proceeded to maul Rosa with
ground-and-pound. The Parana Vale Tudo rep survived the onslaught,
but the strength and technique disparity proved too great for her
to overcome. Late in Round 2, Pacheco cut off another takedown from
her weary countrywoman, pressed her into the fence and bit down on
the fight-ending guillotine.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Kayla
Harrison captured the first of her two Professional Fighters
League titles with a unanimous decision over Pacheco in their
women’s lightweight final at the 2019 PFL Championships inside
Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater in New York. Scores were
50-43, 50-45, and 50-45. Pacheco could match neither the strength
nor the technique of the
American Top Team standout across five one-sided rounds.
Harrison executed multiple takedowns, battered the Brazilian with
ground-and-pound and achieved full mount on multiple occasions.
Beyond an attempted guillotine choke in the fifth round, Pacheco
posed little threat to the decorated American judoka. The win

secured multiple takedowns, but she either wandered into danger
through submissions—she found herself trapped in a triangle choke
in the third round—or was met with ferocious resistance from

protégé snapped off rapid-fire punches and hammerfists from her

Defending champions Ante Delija and Larissa Pacheco will be in the featured bouts this Thursday night when PFL 5 takes place. The event is set for the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, airing live on ESPN and streaming on ESPN+.
Both Delija and Pacheco will look to avoid what happened to Brendan Loughnane at PFL 4 last week. Loughnane was knocked out of the competition with a stunning main event loss.
Delija is looking for his first points of the season, while Pacheco sits three behind her opponent, Amber Leibrock, for the No. 1 spot.
Biaggio Ali Walsh, the grandson of the legendary Muhammad Ali, is set tor return to action against Travell Miller. Ali is slowly working his way through the beginning stages of his pro career after competing as an amateur.
Rounding out the main card will be Aspen Ladd taking on Karolina Sobek and Renan Ferreira going up against Matheus Scheffel.
