HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Vitor Dias and Vinicius Fernandes showed again why they’re the top two point-producers for Marshall soccer.

Dias and Fernandes each scored a goal and picked up an assist on each other’s goal and the No. 6 Thundering Herd blanked No. 20 Akron, 2-0, Tuesday night in front of 1,085 fans at Hoops Family Field/Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.

It’s the first home win of the season for Marshall, which had played to draws in its previous two home matches against Coastal Carolina and West Virginia.

The contest matched the current NCAA champion Marshall (4-1-2) against a former champion Akron (2010 winner), a first at Hoops Family Field. The Zips (4-2-1) suffered their second straight shutout as MU goalkeeper Oliver Semmle stopped two shots.

Marshall had several good scoring chances early, but Zips keeper Will Meyer came up with stops until Dias sent a low shot right of Meyer at 30:05 for a 1-0 lead. Fernandes and Pedro Dolabella got the assists.

“Feels pretty good to get back into winning form,” said Dias, who scored the NCAA championship-clinching goal last May against Indiana. “We have to adjust to taking everyone’s best shot. Now we have a target on our back. Every team wants to do their best against us. It’s much harder.”

Dias said the Herd executed a quick counter on his goal which came when he made a run, got the feed from Dolabella and fired the shot home.

“I was following the play. Pedro saw me. I just put it in the back of the net,” he said.

In the second half, Fernandes struck with a shot to the low left of Meyer for a 2-0 lead at 49:56. Milo Josef and Dias picked up the helpers. The Herd finished with seven shots on goal. Fernandes leads the Herd attack with five goals and four assists. Dias now has four goals and four assists.

Akron had no shots on goal in the first half. Johnny Fitzgerald got the first at 57:35 and Diogo Pacheco sent a hard shot low and left of Semmle who stopped the attempt at 67:31.

Akron, a Mid-American Conference member, leads the all-time series 8-3-2. Marshall has won two of the last three meetings, both at home. The Zips are 1-1-1 now this season against ranked opponents.

Marshall returns to action at home Saturday against No. 10 Kentucky (5-0-1). Match time is 7 p.m. UK marks a return to Conference USA play for the Herd.

“Got to keep the same energy,” Dias said. “We know how conference games are.”

Marshall had a goal in each half negated by an offside call.

Herd coach Chris Grassie said the win somewhat atones for last season’s 2-1 defeat.

“Those games always stick in your mind,” Grassie said.

The Herd came in off the 2-2 draw against West Virginia last Friday at home. Players and coaches some time off after that encounter.

“You have to find a balance,” Grassie said. “Elite performance you want. Elite recovery, too. Make sure you’ve got the horses for the race.”

Grassie said he knew the 2021 schedule would be difficult, just what he desired.

 “Emotional control is one of the things we work on,” he said. “We’ve still got a lot to work on. We know what’s going to come. We have a real tough schedule. We have to work on us. Take care of business and we’ll be fine.”

This was Akron’s first match against a C-USA team this season. Marshall is favored to repeat as league champion. Akron has won 13 of the last 15 regular-season titles in the MAC and 10 of the last 13 conference tournaments.

HTF 12H:

The middaily chart seems to be knocking on the local resistance doors at the 40000 USD level. Is this a moment of a breakthrough?

BTCUSD has been locally consolidating inside a narrow range 38500-40000 USD, backed by the BWAP block, defining the local supply, as well.

The Current Time Frame Trailer remains under the bearish influence after prior losing of 41500 USD support. Ever since, the market has reached the lows of 34500 USD support, triggered along with Russia’s invasion on Ukraine. As the bears are in control still, there is the key resistance level at CTF Stop 40806 USD, which the bulls must reclaim in order to re-gain the upper hand in the market.

Price action wise, bitcoin is moving inside a sideways movement defined between the extreme boundaries – the low of 33000 USD, and the high of 45800 USD. As long as the market fluctuates within this range, bitcoin is not trending. A proper trend shift comes only with a breakout above the 45800 USD highs, or a breakout to the downside below the 33000 USD low.

MTF 4H:

The MTF chart is showing BTC struggling at the 40k USD resistance, whereas the volatility analysis implies there might be more upside room for growth.

Primarily, the breakout over the 38761 USD level has turned bitcoin more to the bullish side, and as long as BTC trades over this level, it’s supposed to aim higher into the 41-42k USD region.

The BPRO Momentum Bands suggest that the average volatility of bitcoin (per standard deviations) is defined at the 34.6-41.8k USD zone as the most likely zone to trade inside.

The BWAP block supports bitcoin in the 38.1-38.4k USD zone. Yet, in case it’s lost, the chances are for a cascade selloff into the 35000s USD area.

Furthermore, BPRO Level Lines show resistances at:

Meanwhile, BPRO Level Lines show supports at:

38761
36330
35352

These levels could be anticipated to serve as level-to-level references. In other words, when one level is breached, the next one in the direction of the movement can be expected to act as the next “magnet”

LTF 1H:

The hourly chart displays a local fake breakout to the upside, a failed swing pattern. This is a failed attempt of a break outside the ascending triangle chart pattern. More often than not, the specialist breakouts like this one tend to reverse the trend, at least for the short-term.

The BPRO portrays the most important pivotal levels and zones with the help of the BaseLine Vave Pivot tool, which visualizes the demand/supply blocks. Based on that indicator, one may conclude that there is a local supply zone given in the gray region at 39500-39700 USD.

The same indicator implies that the local support level is mainly given at 38500 USD. If this level fails to hold, bitcoin may sharply fall down to the 34600 USD level, with a support zone on the way down at 35-35.5k USD.

A successful reclaim of the 40000 USD resistance, with a daily/weekly close above this level, may lead to another attempt of a break above the 45-46k USD supply layer, and further potential 50k USD region. Although, this scenario could only happen, provided that Russia-Ukraine tensions fade away, as well as the rate hikes by the FED are delayed/canceled. Otherwise, the exogenous FUD factors may cause a roller-coaster in the risky markets with another batch of severe declines.

FEAR/GREED INDEX

The fear saga goes on with the index pointint at 26 points with its hand on the scale. This lies under the category of fear.

Unquestionably, the recent Russia’s invasion on Ukraine has contributed to the deterioriation of the market sentiment in terms of the optimism on the traders’ side.

As long as the fear or extreme fear lasts, and it’s been so for a long time already, then bitcoin can be read as undervalued. It is, because the crowds often read the extreme market movements wrongly, expecting never-ending continuation of the same direction. More often than not, it is proved wrong over the time, just confirming that the fear environment is better buying than selling opportunity.

In a surprise announcement, Los Angeles’s beloved alternative art space the Underground Museum has abruptly closed “until further notice.” 

An exhibition of work by the museum’s late co-founder, Noah Davis, will be removed from view, and the venue’s newly hired co-directors, Meg Onli and Cristina Pacheco, will depart from their roles. 

The decision was first announced in an Instagram post by Noah’s widow, Karon Davis,  who co-founded the venue with her husband and his brother, Kahlil Joseph, in 2012. 

“As many of you know, our family worked hard after Noah’s passing to steward the museum with help from countless artists, collaborators, and friends,” she wrote. “But it has also been deeply painful. As soon as Noah passed, each of us immediately jumped into the work of running the museum to realize his vision. As a result, we were not able to fully grieve his loss privately or take the time needed to heal.”

Davis said that “this was made all too clear when Noah’s paintings returned to the space for the first time since his passing. It was also evident in how hard it has been for our family to let go enough to allow Meg and Cristina to do their jobs.”

Onli and Davis did not respond to requests for comment, nor did representatives for the museum.

Just over a month ago, the outlook appeared bright for the Underground Museum. The venue had reopened for the first time since February 2020, and did so having retained all of its employees, including docents, throughout the pandemic. The Davis show, well-reviewed versions of which had previously opened in New York and London, represented an emotional milestone for the art space, as did the prospect of its 10-year anniversary later this year.

Onli, a rising star in the curatorial ranks, had recently left her position as an associate curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia to co-lead the Underground Museum with Pacheco, who had been promoted from COO. 

“I have never been in a museum that I feel is loved like this,” Onli told Artnet News in January.

This week’s abrupt announcement, which is now posted on the homepage of the museum’s website, did not provide any clarity on the future of the Underground Museum, its board, and staff-members.

“For now, we ask that everyone give us the space and privacy needed to understand the future of the museum and to heal individually and collectively,” Davis said in her post. “We simply do not have any answers right now.”

Pesquisadores da Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária – Embrapa detectaram recentemente a presença do ácaro-vermelho-das-palmeiras em Sergipe. O ácaro é conhecido cientificamente como Raoiella indica e pode atacar coqueiros, bananeiras, dendezeiros e mais de noventa espécies de plantas, principalmente palmeiras, causando o amarelecimento severo e necrose das folhas e consequentemente a redução drástica da produtividade, principalmente em plantas novas e mudas em viveiros.

A constatação da praga ocorreu após os pesquisadores examinarem folíolos (parte das folhas) de coqueiros com sintomas de amarelecimento em diferentes bairros de Aracaju. O primeiro registro do ácaro-vermelho-das-palmeiras no Brasil foi em 2007 em Roraima e há registros dessa praga no Amazonas, Ceará e São Paulo. “Ações emergenciais são necessárias para evitar prejuízos aos cultivos de palmeiras, como o coqueiro, e as musáceas como a bananeiras e outras plantas ornamentais em Sergipe”, alerta Adenir Vieira Teodoro, pesquisador entomologista da Embrapa Tabuleiros Costeiros, sediada em Aracaju.

Por esse motivo, a Embrapa Tabuleiros Costeiros promove reunião técnica e treinamento de reconhecimento e manejo do ácaro-vermelho-das-palmeiras.

O entomologista Adenir Teodoro relata que o ácaro-vermelho-das-palmeiras tem um alto poder reprodutivo, pois uma fêmea pode colocar até 160 ovos. “Embora minúscula, a praga é facilmente identificada a olho nu, pela sua cor vermelha intensa, nas partes de baixo dos folíolos dos coqueiros, especialmente onde já estão amareladas. No entanto, é mais fácil com uso de lupa de bolso de pelo menos 10 vezes de aumento”, disse.

Para prevenção da praga, ele recomenda o manejo integrado com diversas medidas complementares.

Recomenda-se a aquisição de mudas não atacadas em casos de plantios novos, e uso de cerca viva, pois o ácaro é transportado pelo vento. No entanto, a implantação de cercas vivas, além de ser onerosa pode não ser suficiente. Caso a plantação já esteja atacada, recomenda-se a coleta e destruição de folhas muito atacadas, evitar transporte de material vegetal e sacarias infestadas.

Segundo ele, o controle químico é muito caro e não há agrotóxicos registrados no Brasil para o controle dessa praga. Por isso, a Embrapa está iniciando pesquisas sobre a eficiência de óleos brutos vegetais, como o de algodão, no controle do ácaro-vermelho-das-palmeiras. Esses óleos vêm sendo usados no controle alternativo de outras pragas do coqueiro, como o ácaro-da-necrose, e possuem como vantagem adicional a baixa toxicidade a inimigos naturais.

A boa notícia é que, de acordo com o pesquisador da Embrapa, existe controle biológico natural, pois o ácaro-vermelho-das-palmeiras tem vários predadores como Joaninhas, crisopídeos, além de ácaros também predadores e fungos que causam doenças a ácaros. Essas opções também serão pesquisadas pela Embrapa para compor programas de manejo integrado desta praga com o uso de óleos brutos vegetais associados ao controle biológico natural.

HTF 12H:

The middaily chart seems to be attempting a breakout to the upside through the main resistance defined by the BPRO.

The CTF Trailer has remained under the bearish control ever since the failed breakout through 45000 USD level. As the volatility contracted, the CTF Trailer Stop has moved down to $41590, which marks the most relevant invalidation level for the ongoing bearish thesis.

Price action wise, BTCUSD is consolidating in a coil pattern, which for its nature is rather neutral. Though, a breakout to the upside or to the downside can result in a measured moved. In such case, the downside target should be around theoretical support at 25000 USD. An upwards breakout would lead towards the mid $50000s levels.

A middaily or daily close through the $41590 level should confirm that the bulls re-gain the control over the market and reclaim the upper hand.

MTF 4H:

The MTF chart displays a heavily compressed price action within a narrow range of volatility. There seems to be a little bit of a “boiling” process behind the scenes, as bitcoin is slowly unwinding the choppy movement.

The BPRO Momentum Bands have started curving up, which implies the average volatility is upwards-oriented. The average volatility implies an expected range of trading to happen within the 37000-41000 USD zone. A breakout outside of this zone could result in a more explosive movement and further continuation in the breakout direction. A strong 4h candle close through the High Band 41100 USD level could result in continuation towards the next BPRO-defined levels near the 43000 USD resistance. A downwards breakout would suggest the retest of 36200s USD or lower.

Meanwhile, BPRO Level Lines show supports at:

These levels could be anticipated to serve as level-to-level references. In other words, when one level is breached, the next one in the direction of the movement can be expected to act as the next “magnet”

LTF 1H:

The hourly chart shows off the BPRO Wave Pivots which visualize the support and resistance levels or zones, based of the most relevant pivots and swings.

The BWAP support block remains at 39700-39800 USD, and as long as bitcoin rounds up above this area, it is quite likely to retest the next local resistance at the 41000 USD level.

A thick, brick-like demand zone defined by the hourly upwards pivots define a potential bounce area at 38900-39250 USD. In case this zone fails, bitcoin may revisit the lower BPRO-based supports at either 38500s USD or 37800s USD.

A violent breakout and a close of a session of the higher time frame through the 41000 USD resistance level could lead to the retest of 43000 USD or higher. Otherwise, a breakout to the downside through the 37800s USD support may imply a retest of the 35000 USD support.

NUPL

As CryptoQuant explains, “Net Unrealized Profit and Loss (NUPL) is the difference between market cap and realized cap divided by market cap. Assuming that the latest coin movement is the result of a purchase, NUPL indicates the total amount of profit/loss in all the coins represented as a ratio. It could be interpreted as the ratio of investors who are in profit. Values over ‘0’ indicate investors are in profit and an increasing trend in value means more investors are beginning to be in profit. This phase indicates the increasing reason to take profit which leads to an increase in sell pressure.”

The NUPL ratio sits at around 0.3858 which historically has favored relatively under-valued or neutral periods in bitcoin’s price history. As mentioned recently, BTCUSD is as under-valued as it was during the bottoming process around the 30000 USD lows in Q3 2021, or at 8000-9000 USD levels prior to the massive upwards breakout.

FEAR/GREED INDEX

As the chart suggests, the sentiment indicates relatively bottom-ish pricing conditions.

The index shows 24 points on the scale, which belongs under the extreme fear category. Historically, buying into the extreme fear has always generated positive returns, better than it was for selling in those conditions.

Naturally, it is not necessarily a perfect timing indicator and it will not show a timed entry suggestion as the RSI indicator would do. Instead, it offers a fair relative outlook for when bitcoin is considered cheap or expensive, on the contrarian basis.

The overall contribution of the Russia-Ukraine war has surely contributed to the highly pessimistic sentiment in the bitcoin market, strongly correlated with the equities now. This, combined with the FOMC meeting anticipations of the rate hikes announcement, has resulted in additional bearish sentiment.

That being said, today we are recording quite a rare instance of a trading day. This week, we have:

The FED’s chairman J. Powell announces confirmation/delay of their rate hikes – Russia’s invasion is potentially a comfortable excuse for the FED to delay the rate hikes and blame the war for the further inflation soaring. Potentially, a rate hikes seem to be priced in so the short-term expectations are rather bearish for the equities (and crypto) and J.P.’s confirmation could trigger a minor news-based sell-off. A positive surprise would be the delay of the rate hikes and inflation continuing to grow, which potentially lays the ground for a stronger upwards breakout for bitcoin. One way or another, increased volatility (and risk) seems to be the case for today. Beware

There are only four triple-witching days in the year. Those are the third Fridays of March, June, September, December. This could imply volatility (and risk) spikes. It makes sense, hence, not to be over exposed to high-risk positions around that time. This marks the expiry of the monthly & quarterly futures and options. This is usually a volatility-generating event. It makes sense to expect increased volatility as the markets are nearing the weekend.
