Black+Decker Unveils a Cordless Bev Cocktail Machine at CES – Robb Report

Hosting a party is great, until you realize that you’re spending all your time making drinks for your guests instead of mingling with them.

Last year, Black+Decker set out to solve that problem with its Bev cocktail maker, which shakes up single-serve drinks at the press of a button. Now the company is innovating on that gadget further, with a larger, cordless version just unveiled at CES, according to Hypebeast.

The newer model, set to become available sometime in the spring, makes your life even easier, since you don’t need to plug it in. You can go anywhere the party is—without the need for a pesky extension cord. And it’ll give more variety to your gatherings, with its ability to hold six liquor bottles at once (the previous model could hold only five). And the new Bev can make up to 250 drinks on a single charge. Hopefully that’s enough to get everyone through the evening with a drink—or several—in hand.

So, how exactly does it work? Once you’ve hooked up your various bottles of gin, vodka, tequila, rum, whiskey or whatever else you’re imbibing in, the Bev simply uses Bartesian capsules to mix up the perfect drink. Think of it as the boozy sibling to a Keurig or another coffee-capsule machine. Bartesian has more than 40 different cocktail options, so you’ll be able to offer your guests everything from a Long Island Iced Tea to a spicy Margarita.

Of course, everyone’s taste is different, so the Bev allows you to customize the drink strength for every cocktail. Ideal for Dry January or anyone who’s not partaking in alcohol for whatever reason, there’s even a mocktail option. And to enhance the party vibe, your technological mixologist comes with a “party mode” setting, which enables an LED light show that illuminates the liquor bottles.

The latest version of the Bev will set you back $400, up from the previous model’s $300 price tag. But that seems like a small price to pay for your very own, permanent in-home bartender.

PIDR [Passion In Dark Rooms] is a London-based DJ Collective consisting of Kirsty Pemberton, Russell Penn, and Marc Hasler. Together they have promoted and been residents at their own parties in and around the Capital alongside guests of the likes of Ali Renault, Phil Banks of Forgotten Corner, Vactrol Park, Jonny 5 of Bahnsteig 23 Nathan Gregory Wilkins and many more. Musically… expect the unexpected.

  • 80s seminal New York no-wave / post-punk band Liquid Liquid – “Zero Leg (A-Tweed x Oltrefuturo Edit)” (originally from 1981)

As many of you should know, Liquid Liquid was a pioneering New York‘s late 70s/early 80s so-called No-Wave group, who knew, like few others, how to combine Funk, New Wave, and Post-punk, abstracting and minimizing it in a visceral and atavistic alchemy. Rediscovered in the late 80s by House DJs and above all, at the end of the 90s, thanks to the Punk-Funk revival of bands such as The Rapture, Out Hud, or !!!, as well in addition to a well-deserved compilation co-released by James Lavelle’s Mo’Wax and Beastie Boys’ Grand Royal labels plus a couple of remixes. Italian-based rhythm company’s edit instills further trippy, ritualistic and tribal dimensions, to add stronger low-end groovy density and crisp, chugging and rolling rhythmic dynamics, strewing it with acid suggestions, absolutely appetizing for the most trance-inducing dancefloor.

  • Krasnodar, Russian EBM /acid /synthwave /breaks /techno producer Sanyanameste “Please Your Body” single on Khoinix

Russian producer combines buzzing undulating EBM bassline menace, tinny Industrial rhythms, hypnotic vocal loops, and dramatic synth washes to ignite ceremonial dancing catharsis.

  • Lyon based, French experimental /breakbeat /downtempo /trance /electronic producer Guillaume H. (Worst Records, Positive Education), aka A Strange Wedding “Inferno Seri (New Player In Town)” from upcoming V/A “No Digging After Midnight” compilation on Virtual Forest Records

Paris based Virtual Forest Records hosts a new 12-track compilation, “No Digging After Midnight”, to showcase the mesmerizing dark side of the French electronic scene, delving into a melting pot of influences from all different genres. Lyon‘s electronic visionary producer forays into deep, obscure, hypnotizing realms, where stifling humid atmospherics and ceaselessly menacing crisp echoing percussions, collide with rolling metallic low ends, strident swishing FX and droning oscillating frequencies, to trace eerie, disturbing yet intriguing subterranean routes bridging ancient esoterism and dystopian future.

Wireframing: 8 Pro Tips for Designers

Wireframes are low-fidelity visualizations of a future interface created on a piece of paper or in a digital tool. The purpose of a wireframe is to help designers to understand how content and functional elements should be laid on the screen.

https://medium.com/media/0275c8a6e1a1c7bcfb348c4ecc5182fa/href

In this article, I want to share 8 tips that will help you make the most of wireframing.

1. Map out a target user flow before starting wireframing

Before starting wireframing, you need a clear idea of how many screens you’ll need to design and how users will interact with them. It’s much easier to form this understanding when you have a user flow that you can use as a reference. It’s possible to visualize the flow using simple objects such as boxes and arrows. For example, below, you can see a simple user flow for the checkout experience.

If you’re interested in learning more about user flows, check this video:

https://medium.com/media/ccbab8faa6993ed05efde283fae33fc6/href

2. Create wireframes for the core screens first

Choose the screens that are the most important for the user flow. It will make it easier to iterate your design.

3. Choose the right level of fidelity

Fidelity is a level of realism that your visual assets have. Wireframes are typically created in low and medium fidelity. Low-fidelity wireframes contain bare minimum design details

Low-fidelity wireframes

while medium-fidelity wireframes look more like mockups.

Low-fidelity wireframes can be good during the early phase of the design process — when you explore different design directions and want to visualize as many ideas as possible.

The medium-fidelity wireframe should be created when you want to dig deep into a particular solution. Medium-fidelity wireframes are also very useful during discussions with other designers and developers.

4. Use color to draw attention

Wireframes are traditionally created in black & white or grayscale, but it’s possible to use one or two contrasting colors to create visual accents and direct the viewer’s attention to a particular object (such as the call to action button). The following example uses contrasting colors to highlight interactive elements.

5. Try to avoid dummy text in mid-fidelity wireframes

In the early stages of the design process, your goal is to create a clear visual hierarchy — layout with a clear structure. You don’t focus on the content at this stage; you must think about how it’s presented. But after you create a decent visual hierarchy, you should start replacing placeholder text with actual copy that you will use in your product.

There is a reason why we should avoid dummy text at this stage — Lorem Ipsum doesn’t say much to people who will review your design. As a result, when they will review wireframes, they can easily misunderstand your design.

Turn dummy text into real text once you have a chance. Image by Nick Babich.

6. Create clickable wireframes

Wireframes are static design artifacts. While it’s possible to ship your design as a collection of individual screens, it’s much better to create a flow out of them or even create a clickable version of wireframes. Clickable wireframes make it easy for the team to understand the details of scenarios — they make you think about the product functionality holistically. For example, when going through the flow, you can notice that you need to introduce an in-between state between some screens to create a smooth journey.

7. Annotate wireframes

As product designers, we need to provide context and communicate design decisions to team members and stakeholders. If you plan to present a wireframe to the team, it’s always better to include annotations. Annotations help create context and quickly deliver key ideas. Just make sure you use short-to-point annotations. If you need to discuss the concept in more detail (say, you need to write a paragraph of text), it’s better to do it in design documentation, not on wireframes.

8. Use wireframe kits

Don’t create mid-fidelity wireframe from scratch. Use special wireframe kits to speed up the process. Here are two kits that you should try:
