중국의 동영상 공유 플랫폼 틱톡이 청소년의 이용시간을 하루 1시간으로 제한하겠다고 발표했습니다. 미국을 비롯한 서방에서 퇴출 위기에 몰리면서 고육지책을 내놨다는 분석입니다.

[중학생 : (틱톡 써 본 적 있어요?) 네. 모두가 다 쓰죠.]

[고등학생 : 전 많이 써요. 학교 끝나고 집에 돌아오면 몇 시간씩 스크롤하면서 봐요.] 

미국에서 틱톡을 이용하는 사람은 1억 명 이상, 특히 10대 학생들은 거의 다 사용한다고 봐도 될 정도입니다.

이런 틱톡이 18세 미만 사용자에 대해 하루 이용 시간을 1시간으로 제한하는 강력한 청소년 보호책을 내놨습니다.

틱톡 측은 이렇게 앱을 다운받고 실행시킬 경우 화면제한 기능이 자동으로 시행되도록 기본 기능으로 제공하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

소셜미디어들 가운데 청소년 이용 시간 제한을 도입한 건 틱톡이 처음입니다.

미국 등 서방이 개인정보 수집에 따른 안보 위협을 이유로 퇴출에 나서자 이를 무마하기 위해 초강수를 던진 겁니다.

미국과 캐나다, 일본은 정부 공용 기기에서 틱톡을 삭제하기로 했고, 유럽의회는 직원들의 틱톡앱 사용을 금지시켰습니다.

미 하원 외교위원회에서는 미국 내 틱톡 사용을 전면 금지할 수 있는 권한을 대통령에게 부여하는 법안이 통과되기도 했습니다.

틱톡이 청소년 이용시간을 제한하겠다고 했지만, 이 기능을 끌 수도 있어서 실효성에 의문도 제기됩니다.

[칼슨/고등학생 : ‘화면 시간제한’ 기능을 사람들이 많이 쓸 거 같지는 않아요. 그 기능을 켜지 않을 거예요.]

외신들은 틱톡이 위기에서 벗어나려면 추가 조치가 필요해 보인다고 지적했습니다.
