After one of the worst genocides in history, Rwanda is no longer recognizable. The nation is one of the safest, cleanest and most dynamic in Africa. But this awe-inspiring success story also has a downside.

Record economic growth attracts investors from all over the world to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. Tourism has also experienced a boom in recent years. A million people visit the country every year to experience its beauty – and observe its well-protected community of mountain gorillas. This renaissance has come about thanks to Paul Kagame, the country’s president of the past 10 years. The former rebel leader has succeeded in reconciling his country and reversing its fortunes – but at what price? Any political opposition is muzzled and critical reporting severely punished. Some journalists have even been thrown in jail. Modernization programs in Kigali are partly fueled through the expropriation of property. And despite the superfical glossiness, 40 per cent of the Rwandan population still lives below the poverty line.

A fresh round of sanctions coming for Russia.
EU foreign ministers are meeting in Brussels to discuss more export controls on Russia worth eleven billion euros. That’s as the war enters its second year this week.
In the face of Western sanctions over the war in Ukraine, Russian authorities have revived Soviet-era brands, including the emblematic Kama bicycles and Moskvich cars. The aim is to be self reliant after many Western companies shut down their manufacturing sites in Russia. But if you look beyond the branding, you’ll discover Russia is struggling without foreign inputs.
But Western companies are also being affected.
Before the war, Russia was a key market for the manufacturing sector in the German city of Chemnitz. But sanctions mean that the affected companies have to look elsewhere for business.

The internet loves cats. And that other part of existence, you know, the actual world, that loves cats too. Why? Because they’re cats, I mean just look at their little faces. Always being playful, or destroying stuff, or just doing whatever they want. There’s a lot of different kinds of cats, too. Most of them change appearance by the colour of their fur, or their size, or even how much fur they have. But there are also some cats that are just weird. Weird to look at, weird acting, all round strange cats. From the cat with named after a bird to the cat who went viral due to looking completely insane, here’s our rundown of 15 Abnormally Strange Cats That Actually Exist!
