I’ve always used ratchet straps. It’s the easiest way to clamp irregular glueups like the tenons on a chair. Anytime you have angled surfaces you want to clamp, a strap works.
This proper bandclamp setup might be a little more convenient, and there may come a time that this is the only way to go. Still, I prefer more versatile tools.
I saw a 4 pack of ratchet straps on clearance for under $5 last time I was at Home Depot. If woodworking isn’t your only passion, you can probably get most of the bandclamp benefits, pay less, and have those straps to tie down the plywood you bought to the roof of your car.
