Atletico Madrid will welcome Alaves to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday as they will be looking for much-needed three points in their bid to secure a Champions League spot next season.

The hosts are currently sitting fourth in the La Liga standings on 54 points from teir 29 games played, level on points with third-placed Barcelona who have a game in hand on all teams in the top half of the table.

In their last game in the La Liga action, they picked up a 1-0 victory against Rayo Vallecano at the Estadio de Vallecans on March 19, with Koke scoring the only goal of the game in the 49th minute to secure the victory for the visitors.

Atletico Madrid come into this fixture on a five-game winning streak, firstly defeating Celta vigo 2-0 at home in the league on February 26, and have also defeated Manchester United 1-0 at the Old Trafford in the Champions League in that run.

They now play host to an Alaves side whom they lost to in the last meeting between the two sides, going down 1-0 at Estadio de Mendizorroza in September, with Laguardia scoring the only goal of the game.

Alaves suffered a 3-2 defeat against Granada at Estadio de Mendizorroza in their last league match, extending their winless streak to five matches, which left them in the 19th spot in the La Liga table on 22 points, five points adrift of safety with nine matches remaining.

Babazorros El Glorioso will seek to address a poor run of results away from home this season, with three draws, 10 losses and only one win in league away matches.

Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side are on a 10-match away winless streak in the league and have not won away since October 2021 against Cadiz.

In the game against Rayo Vallecano Angel Correa received a straight red card in the 85th minute and is suspended for one game, while Koke is suspended on one much as well.

Alaves’ Joselo is set to lead the line in a 4-1-4-1 formation, while Fernando Pacheco is set to feature between the sticks on Saturday.
