New vegetable recall: Check your fridge for these contaminated green beans
Last week, we warned you about a zucchini recall following a positive result in routine testing for Salmonella. But zucchini isn’t the only vegetable you should pay attention to, as there’s another similar warning in place. This time, we’re looking at a green beans recall.
Routine testing revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes on a lot of Hippie Organics 1lbs French Beans available from Alpine Fresh. They were sold in Aldi, Lidl, and Whole Foods stores.
Like Salmonella, Listeria can lead to life-threatening illnesses in some categories of people. That’s why the detection of bacteria in routine testing will trigger product recalls.
The Hippie Organics French Beans recall
Alpine Fresh notes in the green beans recall announcement that it has not yet received any reports of illness. Still, infection with Listeria can lead to symptoms several days after consuming the contaminated product.
The company says that only one lot of Hippie Organics French Beans is included in the recall. That’s because samples from lot #313-626 tested positive for Listeria.
If your green beans have a different lot number, then the product isn’t part of the recall and you can continue to eat the beans. You’ll find the lot number on the back of the package, as seen in the following images.
The green beans were available in three retail chains across various states. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), that’s Aldi (FL), Lidl (DE, GA, MD, NJ, NY, NC, PA, SC, VA), and Whole Foods (CT, FL, GA, IL, MD).
Listeria infection symptoms
People who ingest the Listeria bacteria by eating products like the green beans in this new recall risk developing listeriosis. Symptoms can appear several days after eating the contaminated food.
Alpine Fresh explains that you can expect high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
While most people will recover, the illness can be fatal to specific groups of people. Young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems are at risk. Moreover, the bacteria can lead to complications in pregnant women and newborn babies. Hazards include miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery, and newborn infection.
Considering the symptoms can appear with other conditions as well, the only way to get a correct diagnosis is by testing for the bacteria. Moreover, since it can take up to a month for symptoms to appear, those infected might not be able to determine the infection source.
What you should do
If you purchased the Hippie Organics French Beans from the lot that’s being recalled, you should stop eating them. The company urges consumers to return the 1-pound packages of green beans to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Those who experience symptoms that might indicate a Listeria infection should reach out to their doctors for a proper diagnosis and course of treatment.

Council: Casper Business Center best of many options considered in search for new police HQ
CASPER, Wyo. — The Casper City Council voted 8-0 on Tuesday in favor of the city purchasing the Casper Business Center for $8 million from Wyoming Financial Properties using American Rescue Plan Act dollars.
Council members described the city’s search for a solution to the need for a new police headquarters as thorough during the special meeting Tuesday.
“This isn’t a foolhearted-want-to-spend-money situation,” Council member Bruce Knell said, tuning into the meeting virtually as he recovers from injuries sustained in a plane crash.
The “humongous building” has more than enough room to meet the space needs of the police department and will accommodate growth of the department into the future, Knell said. He added that it will allow the city to eventually stop paying rent at the Hall of Justice and the building that houses dispatch once those operations are consolidated into the city’s new downtown building.
The city’s purchase will also free up space at the Hall of Justice for the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office, Council member Lisa Engebretsen said, describing the city’s move as beneficial for the county. The city is aware the aging building has some issues and will need to be retrofitted to accommodate the police department, but the building is “absolutely the best solution we can find,” Engebretsen added.
While the initial purchase of the building is $8 million and the exact amount that will need to be invested to upgrade it is unknown, both Vice Mayor Steve Freel and Council member Steve Cathey said the total costs should be about half what it would cost to build a brand new headquarters, which the city estimates at around $50 million.
The Casper Business Center will be able to house not only police headquarters but also dispatch, court and will have “space to decongest some of the other departments of the city,” according to Freel.
“I think it is money well spent,” he said. “It is the smartest way of going — located right where we need it to be. To me it is a win-win.”
Cathey said that a committee comprised of some council members and city staff explored at least 15 different properties as options for the new police headquarters, including the former Casper Star-Tribune building and the former Sears space inside of the Eastridge Mall. The committee looked into whether such places could serve as a secure facility for police operations and whether they would allow for quick response times throughout the community.
“This isn’t like we just jumped out and said, ‘Hey, let’s go buy a building,’” Cathey said, adding that he thinks a lot of due diligence went into trying to find a solution that wouldn’t break the bank for the city.
Council member Amber Pollock said she is comfortable with the decision as the committee and city staff put a lot of time and effort into evaluating different options.
“Many, many, many options were considered,” she said. “It has been quite a lengthy process and I think it has been a quite well thought out process.”
Mayor Ray Pacheco said that he thinks the purchase will be a good investment for the city.
“I think it is going to be able to reap rewards for the future,” he said.
Council member Kyle Gamroth recused himself from the vote to avoid any conflict of interest as he is employed by an affiliate of Wyoming Financial Properties.

ARLINGTON, TEXAS – The Professional Fighters League, the fastest growing and most innovative sports league in the world wraps up the first half of their 2022 Regular Season with a star-studded card for PFL 3, featuring bouts in the women’s lightweight, welterweight, and lightweight divisions. In the main event, two-time PFL Women’s Lightweight World Champion Kayla Harrison of the United States meets Marina Mokhnatkina of Russia.
The most dominant women’s champion in mixed martial arts today, Harrison came in at 155-pounds for Friday’s main event, as she begins her quest for a third consecutive PFL championship. Harrison has been victorious in all 12 of her professional bouts, and intends to keep it that way at PFL 3. Mokhnatkina, meanwhile, tipped the scales at 154.2-pounds, as she heads into the biggest fight of her MMA career. The six-time combat sambo world champion has won back-to-back bouts, and will look to test Harrison’s dominance.
In the co-main event, two-time PFL Welterweight Champion Hawaii’s Ray “Bradda Boy” Cooper III takes on Brazilian standout Carlos “The Lion” Leal in a welterweight showdown. Cooper came in at 176.4-pounds as he kicks off his campaign for a PFL championship three-peat. Cooper came in 5.4-pounds over the limit and will be deducted one point in the welterweight standings. He will also be unable to earn points no matter the outcome of the bout. Leal, meanwhile, weighed-in at 169.6-pounds for his PFL Regular Season debut. The former LFA welterweight champion was victorious in both his appearances on the 2022 PFL Challenger Series, which was enough to earn him a spot in the 2022 PFL Regular Season. Leal will bank a minimum of three points in the welterweight division standings.
Also on the card, former UFC champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis of the United States takes on Myles “Magic” Price of Ireland. Pettis came in at 155.4-pounds, while Price weighed 154.8-pounds.
Former Bellator champion Rory “The Red King” MacDonald of Canada meets Brett “Fudoshin” Cooper of the United States. MacDonald weighed-in at 171-pounds, while Cooper came in at 169.8-pounds.
Women’s Lightweight Genah Fabian of New Zealand weighed in at 160.8-pounds, 4.8-pounds over the division limit, for her showdown with Canadian Julia Budd. Fabian, like Cooper III, will be docked one point and will be unable to earn points no matter the outcome of the bout. Budd is guaranteed three points in the standings and can earn bonus points if she is able to finish the Kiwi inside the distance.
Magomed Magomedkerimov, the 2018 PFL Welterweight World Champion, was forced out of his matchup with Joao Zeferino due to visa issues. 2022 PFL Challenger Series alum Dilano Taylor will step in to duel with Zeferino. Taylor weighed-in at 170.6-pounds while Zeferino hit 170.8 on the scale.
