VIO-LENCE – Fan-Filmed Video Of Mass Destruction IV Festival Set Streaming – BraveWords

Last year, Vio-Lence released a digital single, “California Uber Alles” (a cover version of the Dead Kennedys classic), via Metal Blade Records. After giving fans a taste of what’s to come, the band announced their upcoming EP: Let The World Burn – their first original release since 1993’s Nothing To Gain – is due to be unleashed in early 2022 via Metal Blade Records.

On November 5th, the band performed at the Mass Destruction IV festival in Atlanta, GA. Fan-filmed video is available below.

The setlist was as follows:

“Liquid Courage”
“Eternal Nightmare”
“Serial Killer”
“I Profit”
“Calling In The Coroner”
“Kill On Command”
“Officer Nice”
“Upon Their Cross”
“World In A World”

Let The World Burn was recorded with Juan Urteaga at Trident Studios in Pacheco, CA, with mixing handled by Tue Madsen.

Sean Killian (vocals) comments: “Life is meant to be lived and during that one life you have an opportunity to truly create memories for yourself and people who share the same time on this planet as you do. For 33 years, a creation called Eternal Nightmare has been making memories for people around the world. Now, it is time to create some new memories in 2021, and Vio-Lence has now done that for me, and I’m hoping for you too. This resurrection was started in 2019 with a simple text that stated, ‘Let’s do a show’. At that moment, these 5 original songs began. I am very proud of the new music we created, and we are fortunate to have worked with some very creative people. Juan Urteaga, who was able to push the band to the edge of insanity to capture the intensity we as a band have always brought to people through our music and our live performances. Tue Madsen put a special touch on our unique mania and brought raw perfection to our sound. Nothing too polished here, unless fragments of glass and broken razor blades are what you consider polished. I love to create, and we hope your heads explode when you hear the new Vio-Lence. Thanks to everyone involved, and especially Metal Blade Records, for giving Vio-Lence the opportunity to blow your minds.”

Vio-Lence was born in 1985 in the womb of thrash metal’s inception: San Francisco’s East Bay Area. With a ferocious blend of blazing guitar riffs, relentless rhythm, and an ultra-aggressive vocal style, they have an intensity unmatched in metal. After disbanding in late 1993, their music and legacy still drew metal-heads from around the world. A return to live performances began in mid-April 2019 and they have not looked back.

Stay tuned for more news about Let The World Burn, coming soon.

Vio-Lence lineup:

Sean Killian – vocals
Perry Strickland – drums
Christian Olde Wolbers – bass
Bobby Gustafson – guitars
Phil Demmel – guitars

PFL Champion Larissa Pacheco Unlikely To Make UFC Return

2022 PFL women’s lightweight tournament winner Larissa Pacheco seems unlikely to return to the UFC based on some recent remarks.

In arguably the biggest upset of 2022, Kayla Harrison suffered her first career loss at the hands of Larissa Pacheco at PFL 10 last month. Pacheco earned a unanimous decision victory after having lost to Harrison twice prior, including in the lightweight finals three years ago.

This year was a different story with a surprise ending, as Harrison, who many have been calling to jump over to the UFC, lost despite being a giant favorite coming into the fight. With this in mind, does that mean it is Pacheco who should sign with the UFC instead after winning the PFL championship?

Larissa Pacheco’s Past UFC Run Proves 155 Is Her New Home

Some fans may not be aware of the fact that Larissa Pacheco has already competed in the UFC. Pachecho had two bantamweight bouts, first to Jéssica Andrade in 2014 and then to Germaine de Randamie at UFC 185 in March 2015. She was submitted by Andrade in the first round and knocked out by de Randamie in the second.

Four years later, Pacheco made her lightweight debut in the PFL against Kayla Harrison. Harrison won that fight via unanimous decision. After winning her next two fights, she would lose to Harrison again at the 2019 PFL World Championship.

This would be the last time she has suffered defeat, as she is currently enjoying a six-fight winning streak and is now $1 million richer.

Now that she has reached her peak, Pacheco can look back at her dismal UFC run with the realization that the promotion was not the right fit for her body.

“I talk about it as a weight thing, not a lack of professionalism and me not wanting to cut, but just based on my structure,” Pacheco told MMA Mania recently about her UFC run. “I’m tall, I got a big frame, so cutting down that much, it just didn’t really work for me. So I feel like at 155, I found a home, and I’m able to showcase all my skills. And it’s just skills. There’s no weight factor. You see my peak performance there.”

Seeing as how the UFC has no women’s lightweight division (and some would argue no featherweight division), this signifies that Pacheco will most likely stay put in the PFL. Her willingness to provide Kayla Harrison with a rematch next year only further supports her plans to remain in the PFL for at least the foreseeable future.

Pacheco has also expressed an openness to participate in superfights against the likes of Cris Cyborg. If that were to happen, it would most likely take place at 145 lbs., due to Cyborg never having competed at lightweight before.

Do you think Larissa Pacheco should consider adding talent to the UFC’s featherweight division, or should she stick to what’s working at lightweight?

PFL 2022 10: Championships Preview and Predictions

The Professional Fighters League closes out its 2022 season this Friday, Nov. 25, with six title fights that each have a million dollars on the line for the victors. Headlining the event is reigning women’s lightweight champion Kayla Harrison who looks to defeat Larissa Pacheco for the third time in as many meetings. Harrison has been practically unstoppable in mixed martial arts, amassing a 15-0 record, complete with six submissions, six knockouts, and three decisions. Two of those decision victories came previously against Pacheco, who hopes the third time will be the charm, and that she can upset Harrison to stop the two-time Olympic gold-medal-winning judoka from notching a third seasonal championship inside the PFL.

The co-main event is the men’s featherweight championship as Brendan Loughnane clashes with Bubba Jenkins. Neither man tasted defeat in the 2022 Regular Season or Playoffs, and each fighter will be looking to claim what has eluded them so far in their careers – a championship with a major MMA promotion.

Also on the card, outside of the six title showdowns, is a women’s featherweight contest between Aspen Ladd and Julia Budd. Ladd is making her first appearance inside the PFL after a string of weight-cutting issues lead to her departure from the UFC. Budd is a former Bellator champion, who has, thus far, gone 1-1 with the PFL. She is looking to make an impression heading into next season by spoiling Ladd’s debut.

The early card airs live on ESPN+ starting at 3 p.m. ET, followed by the main card on ESPN+ pay-per-view at 6 p.m. ET.

Kayla Harrison won the first two meetings with Larissa Pacheco by clear-cut unanimous decisions; is there any reason the third fight will be different?

No. Larissa Pacheco is a very durable fighter, and she hasn’t been stopped since her two-fight run with the UFC back in 2014 and 2015. Having fought Harrison twice, she knows how to game-plan for the two-time Olympic gold medalist. Pacheco will be aware of some of Harrison’s tricks and, therefore, will be able to avoid getting finished quickly like so many other Harrison opponents. But, aside from being solid defensively, Pacheco will have limited offensive success.

If Pacheco gets aggressive, she will have to put herself out of position – at least momentarily – and that is all that Harrison will need to capitalize. The champ will get the fight into her world on the canvas, where she will immediately hunt for a finish.

Expect Pacheco to come into this fight certainly trying to win, but, ultimately, more concerned with not letting Harrison rip off one of her arms and take that home to sit on her mantle. That means that this fight is probably going to be a little anticlimactic as far as title fights are concerned. For the third time in as many meetings, this will be a lopsided affair with no doubt that Harrison is, far and away, the best female lightweight on the planet. Fans will be clamoring even more for a showdown between Harrison and current Bellator champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino, as she might be the only woman big enough and talented enough to challenge Harrison.

Both Brendan Loughnane and Bubba Jenkins made it to the Championship without a blemish in 2022; who keeps the perfect record intact and claims the million dollar prize?

No fighter has a bigger chip on his shoulder than Brendan Loughnane. He still carries the criticism Dana White gave him after his Contender Series performance, and it has been a great motivator. Since White refused to offer Loughnane a contract, because he went for a takedown late in his fight against Bill Algeo, the English fighter has gone 7-1 with the lone loss coming via split decision against Movlid Khaibulaev. That was a fight where you could make a case that Loughnane deserved the win.

Bubba Jenkins is no punk, he has really turned up his talent level in the last couple years, improving each time he steps into the cage. It is not controversial to say that the current version of Jenkins would absolutely wreck the version of himself when he was the featherweight champion in BRAVE CF. This could be the best fight of the night, as it should be a highly competitive bout between two fighters with incredible gas tanks who are probably going to engage in a war of attrition. Of all my picks, this is one I am the least confident in making, but I expect Loughnane to outwork Jenkins late to win the fifth round and take a decision victory after a grueling back-and-forth contest.

The only non-title fight on the main card is Aspen Ladd’s PFL debut against Julia Budd; how does Ladd fare at featherweight under a new promotional banner?

Aspen Ladd really needs to show up big here, in order to salvage her reputation and future as an elite mixed martial artist. Three times under the UFC banner, Ladd had fights canceled because of weight-cut issues. That is what led to her release, and now up at featherweight, she has a chance to prove that 145 pounds is her proper home. Her first bout in the PFL is no picnic.

Former Bellator featherweight champion Julia Budd is a grinder and has been in the cage against the best female mixed martial artists on the planet. Three of her four losses came against Ronda Rousey, Amanda Nunes, and Cris “Cyborg” Justino. They are all women’s MMA royalty. The only other woman to beat her is Genah Fabian, and that fight was up at lightweight where Fabian still missed weight by almost five pounds. Expect Budd to put a pace on Ladd that she can’t handle over 15 minutes. The first round will be close, but the second and third will be more and more dominant for Budd, as she earns a wide decision victory and sends Ladd back to the drawing board once again.

Which other championship bout, that might be flying under the radar, has a chance to steal the show?

The men’s lightweight fight between Olivier Aubin-Mercier and Stevie Ray. Both of these fighters had mixed results under the UFC banner, and the move to the PFL has done them both good. Aubin-Mercier is thriving, with a 5-0 record since making the switch. Those wins include two unanimous-decision victories over fellow UFC vets Darrell Horcher and Marcin Held, as well as a pair of victories over teammates and former PFL champions Natan Schulte and Raush Manfio. Ray has claimed back-to-back victories over former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in his run towards the Championship. This one should have a bit of everything in it, from precision striking to powerful wrestling and some slick grappling.

PFL Finals: Interview with Sadibou Sy

The last time we spoke to Sadibou he was preparing for a playoff fight. He has had a dominant run this season and is well-placed to bring home the prized PFL belt back to Sweden. When we speak, Sadi has just come from the official PFL press conference promoting the final event of the season.

Sadi has been in the USA for months, where he has been doing his entire camp. Preparations have been intense in Las Vegas. It marks his 5th camp in Vegas and he thinks the preparations and training have been optimal. The preparation is the same as usual: keep working on the basics, but he has focused on more rounds as the final fight of the year will be 5 rounds instead of the usual 3.

His opponent is Jamaican Dilano Taylor. Sadi believes he faces a well-rounded opponent but that he has the skills and knowledge to beat him. “I have the experience, more tools, and if you look at the type of fight it will be I am a better fighter all-round. I am a bit better than him at everything.” Sadi’s tone is humble yet confident, and he stresses that he has put in the work to back up his words.

The Swedish fighter has no exact prediction to offer. Generally, he adds, he tries towing through his superior striking: both punching and kicking. He is gaining confidence in his grappling and his ability total fighters down and control them on the ground. “The fight can go in any direction, but I will always try to get an early and spectacular knockout win.”

What would it mean for him to take the win and bring home the gold? “It would be huge! It would be the biggest thing in Swedish MMA history. I want to write history, and I want to take the belt home to Sweden and Senegal. It would mean so much.” Sadibou would be adding his PFL title to the 5 titles he already holds: 3 in kickboxing and 1 in Muay Thai. He has done everything to prepare for this fight and his determination is apparent by the way he spoke during our interview.

As a professional MMA athlete, in many ways, his life and career have been leading up to this very moment. I ask him if he is nervous, and he replies unflinchingly: “Sure, it’s a part of it. You are always nervous before a fight, and you always will be. It’s a part of the experience to learn how to deal with the entire process.”

On the card, we also see Kayla Harrison attempt to keep her undisputed claim to the Women’s Lightweight throne as she fights Larissa Pacheco. Moreover, Brendan Loughnane takes on Bubba Jenkins for the PFL Featherweight title. I ask Sadi if he has any favourites and predictions, but his honest reply is that he is so focused on his fight that he hasn’t been able to study the other’s fights closely. “There are so many fights and I would say that the Featherweights and the Women’s Lightweight fight I am really looking forward to.”

How does one move on from a win? Simple: “You win against next year!” Sadi leaves the call with a laugh and words of gratitude for all the support he has received. Sweden stands with Sadi as he “digs for gold in the USA” as the old Swedish song says. Heja Sadi!
