Donald Trump Jr. lambasted John Fetterman as a ‘vegetable’ who would be better employed as a grocery bagger than a U.S. senator.
The former president’s son mocked the Pennsylvania Democrat by saying Fetterman lacks ‘basic cognitive function’ in a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Friday while Fetterman continues treatment for clinical depression at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
‘I’m the one that’s willing to say this stuff because someone has to because it’s insane. What’s actually going on, right?’ Trump goaded the crowd. ‘When I said, like, I don’t know, it’s sort of weird that Pennsylvania managed to elect a vegetable.’
Donald Trump Jr. lambasted John Fetterman as a ‘vegetable’ who would be better employed as a grocery bagger than a U.S. senator
‘They criticize me as being ableist,’ Trump went on. ‘I didn’t know what that was.’
‘I’d love for John Fetterman to have like, good gainful employment,’ Trump said. ‘Maybe he could be like a bag guy at a like a grocery store or, but like, is it reasonable for me to expect you as a citizen of the United States of America to have basic cognitive function?’
‘He’s clearly unfit for office,’ Trump said. ‘This guy had these issues, and they ran him anyway because they want a radical extremist that wants to release murderers.’
‘We have to start voting with our wallets,’ Trump said before plugging two of his personal business ventures – news service MxM News and online conservative marketplace Public Square.
Fetterman’s office said Monday the senator is keeping up with official business from the hospital.
‘He is visiting with staff and family daily, and his staff are keeping him updated on Senate business and news,’ Fetterman’s communications director, Joe Calvello, said in the statement.
Calvello said Fetterman’s team is moving ‘full speed ahead’ but underscored the senator’s recovery would be a ‘weeks-long process.’
Trump began his address with a Willy Wonka-esque stunt where he told conservatives in the crowd to look under their chair and see if they’d won a ‘golden ticket’ to his father’s private event the following night after the elder Trump’s headline address to the conference.
The half-full crowd began scrambling to look around the empty seats for a ticket.

He closed his speech by making his pitch to put his father back in the White House next election.
‘We need a president that is not owned by other people, right? There’s a reason the billionaire class — even the billionaire conservative news class — wants someone other than Trump,’ he continued.
‘It’s because they want someone that needs them to take their call,’ Trump said in an apparent jab at Fox Corps’ Rupert Murdoch, who recently told a court he wished his hosts had been more forceful in denouncing Trump’s election fraud claims in 2020.
‘I want the guy that doesn’t need to take that call, that isn’t entirely beholden to them,’ he said. ‘My father certainly didn’t.’
Trump went on: ‘You know, there’s a lot of the billionaire class even on the Republican side, it’s like, yeah, we’re really hard on China, but like, don’t be that hard.’
