Daily Report – Bitcoin and Market Update (January 26 2022) – The Birb Nest

HTF 12H:

The middaily chart displays BTCUSD price action following a 15% bounce off of the 33000 USD lows. There are several promising indications to mention.

Firstly, BTCUSD is trading above the BaseLine average after quite a decent middaily candle closed through. The BaseLine is providing a firm support at 36800 USD level.

This level is additionally backed by BWAP demand block within the 35.9-36.6k USD area, which overall creates a cluster of supports between 35900 USD and 36800 USD. In case it is lost with a 12H or 1D close below it, there is a chance of retesting the volatility lows defined by the BPRO Momentum Band at 31.6-34.2k USD layer.

Momentum Bands are derived from standard deviation based volatility changes, which implies that bitcoin is most likely to trade between 31.6k USD (Low Band) and 44.4k USD (High Band). As long as bitcoin trades above the BaseLine, It is more likely to reach the High Band than the Low Band, hence, targeting 41.8-44.4k USD supply.

The most important level in the chart is defined by the CTF Trailer Stop at 40365 USD. It is a level break above which suggests the end of the entire 2-month long correction of the 50% depth. As long as BTCUSD remains under 40365 USD it is a subject to retest the lows area.

MTF 4H:

MTF chart shows off a decent upside pullback consequently closing higher candles. It’s a positive and potentially promising symptom for a further upside recovery.

Bitcoin is trading above its BaseLine average (ascending), which provides traders with a dynamic support – now at 36800 USD level.

The said support is additionally backed by BWAP block defining volume-based demand zone 36.3-36.6k USD. Both combined create a demand zone between 36.3k USD and 36.8k USD.

Price action implies a strong demand block (BaseLine Wave Pivots) at 35-36k USD region.

Because the levels said above are nearly located, one may consider this a certain cluster of supports and demand block, entirely between 35000 USD and 36800 USD. Quite a thick brick and it doesn’t make an impression to be easy to break down, except for external fundamental factors (see FOMC discussed below)

Additionally, short-term upwards reversal is freshly confirmed by break and close above 4h CTF Trailer resistance. Now bulls have the upper hand in the short run assuming no external factors disturb here. Invalidation from the TA part for the bullish bitcoin LTF setup is given at the stop box in the bottom part of the chart: 34463 USD.

LTF 1H:

The hourly chart displays a local upwards trend attempting to reclaim a Level Line resistance at 37769 USD and make a support out of it (polarity change principle). A successful daily close above it suggests that the next levels ahead to be tested are the upper Level Lines marked in the upper part of the chart. All Level Lines supports and resistances are listed below.

Key price action swings print the main support level locally to be 36700 USD and it is additionally backed by entire zone of demand between 36000 USD and 36800 USD. Hence, the entire zone 36-36.8k USD should be considered a cluster of supports.

BPRO Level Lines show resistances at:

43142
42055
40864

BPRO Level Lines show supports at:

37769
35943
33136

These levels could be anticipated to serve as level-to-level references. In other words, when one level is breached, the next one in the direction of the movement can be expected to act as the next “magnet”

FOMC Press Release Note

Of course, all eyes on today’s FOMC meeting revealing rate hikes plans and balance sheet runoff map. If it’s immediate and in-rush plan from FED, then stocks may take another hit (which would be quite strange and painful to US after 20-50% declines already) and bitcoin could go down with it. Today’s FOMC press release is scheduled to start at 2pm EST with the main details to be revealed around 2:30 pm EST (8-8:30pm CET). At these hours, it is likely the financial markets could see a greater volatility (and risk), so I would recommend so that you do not have/open too many positions. It may be dangerous to have only risk-on focus in case what FOMC announces is worse than expected for the economy.

Usually, price of assets tends to grow in the anticipation of the news (here: FOMC press release). It suggests to take an additional caution of increased risks of local flash dumps should the actual news be of more negative impact for the financial markets. It is due to the fact that the potential decline may be additionally a result of locally over-stretched upwards movements (overbought intraday conditions). Simply put, because (potentially) the risk-on assets may increase in the anticipation, the drop may be heavier than if there was no growth prior to it. Just another reason to take more safety-focused approach here.

The rate hikes concept includes likely 3-4 interest rate liftoffs over the course of 2022, starting off in March 2022. During the previous rate hikes around 2017-2019 periods, the actual rate hike events were followed by short-term downside-oriented price action soon followed by a larger price increase. It may be the case indeed, that what we hear today from the FED may bring short-term bearish implications (but it is not 100% certain at all), followed by medium-term strong increases. It is also worth adding into the larger context, that bitcoin has freshly taken advantage over the equities and while the stocks tumbled down, bitcoin took off to the upside.

Personally, I would be surprised if the FED takes a destructive approach towards financial markets today for a couple of reasons. Primarily, it just looks bad on the politicians that the stock market collapses during their career. Secondly, the market has been in heavy declines since mid November with indicators oversold across the board. Some of the indicators are even worse than during the covid crash in March 2020, taking us back even to 2008 recession times. Wild. Finally, VIX as the fear index coming from the Implied Volatility coming from the demand for the S&P 500 Put Options (represents the market’s expectations for volatility over the coming 30 days), is at relatively high levels, which usually has short-term bullish implications to follow.

FEAR/GREED INDEX

With the extreme fear marked at 23 points on the scale, the fearful saga continues.

The majority is usually right in the middle of trends and usually wrong about the extremes. At times one needs to wait longer than preferred for a bitcoin bottom to form, but the history suggests every time bitcoin was this oversold, it was followed by a proper bounce and profitability soon after.

Importantly, it is NOT a timing indicator. It suggests when bitcoin is considered cheap or expensive. For the past days bitcoin has been suggested as a historical buying opportunity based on this indicator. It does not aim at predicting bottoms or tops. Usually, though, after flashing so oversold market conditions, bitcoin followed up with consequent bounce off of the index historically low readings.

It aligns with the equities sentiment too and potential setup for recoveries for both industries.

While the untelevised event didn’t have any celebrity guests in person, there were two celebs that appeared with video messages.

Jamie Lee Curtis appeared in a video touting the Hollywood Foreign Press’ philanthropic efforts, stating, ‘I am proud to be associated with them in this venture.’

Arnold Schwarzenegger also appeared in a video about the HFPA’s philanthropic ventures, stating, ‘They have not undertaken this journey for accolades, no, they’ve done it because they understand that to support the arts and creativity, one must cultivate new, original and diverse voices from all walks of life and all corners of the globe.’

Last year NBC announced it would not broadcast this year’s Golden Globe Awards, after controversy over a lack of diversity among the members in the HFPA membership.

At this year’s event — which is usually hailed as ‘the party of the year’ — there was no celebrities, no live audience, and no red carpet. The whole award show reportedly took an hour and a half and afterwards there was a poolside reception.

Squid win: Netflix’s breakout hit Squid Game also took home an award, with O Yeong-Su winning Best Actor in a Supporting Role on a TV series, beating out Billy Crudup (The Morning Show), Kieran Culkin (Succession), Mark Duplass (The Morning Show) and Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso)

‘I think one of the magical things about the pre-pandemic Globes when there is a house full of celebrities is not only what happens during the live broadcast but during the commercial breaks. Those moments when you catch Spielberg talking to an up-and-coming TV actor. Those moments we obviously didn’t have — there were no commercial breaks and there were no celebrities,’ an unnamed HFPA member told the Los Angeles Times.

At the 79th annual Golden Globes, the HFPA said the show would focus on philanthropy. It was an initiative taken following criticism of the association for a lack of ethics and inclusion amongst members.

‘A lot of work has gone into it, and we’ve taken some really great strides,’ one member told the publication. ‘There’s more work to be done. We’re going to continue that work over the years. But I hope that people really see what’s been done, because it’s been significant.’

Staff members representing various non-profits supported by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association were on hand to announce winners on Sunday’s ceremony, with the only celebrity presence being Schwarzenegger and Curtis video appearances.

It was revealed Tuesday by Variety that the Globes’ talent booker reached out to several publicity agencies about getting celebrity presenters, but no celebs agreed to take part.

Jason wins: Jason Sudeikis continued his awards season hot streak winning Best Actor in a TV Series – Musical/Comedy, beating out Anthony Anderson (Black-ish), Nicholas Hoult (The Great), Steve Martin (Only Murders in the Building) and Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building)

Michael wins: Michael Keaton won Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for Dopesick, beating out Paul Bettany (WandaVision), Oscar Isaac (Scenes from a Marriage) , Ewan McGrgeor (Holsten) and Tahar Rahim (The Serpent)

Winslet the winner! Kate won the award for best performance by an actress for Mare of Easttown

On top: The Amazon mini-series The Underground Railroad won for best TV limited series

HFPA president Helen Hoehne, gave a speech focusing on the organisation’s attempts to diversify and a focus on its philanthropy work after a controversial year which culminated in last year’s televised ceremony suffering a 60% drop in viewers.

‘Last year the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was challenged to change – and we did,’ said Hoehne. ‘Both internally, within the Association, as well as adding 21 members to bring fresh perspectives.

‘We are on a journey of change and we’re not going to rest. We are going to be outspoken about what we’re learning and challenge others to join us.’

Kyle Bowser, senior vice-president of the NAACP Hollywood Bureau, spoke of the ‘Reimagine Coalition,’ a joint five-year initiative to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion across the global entertainment industry. ‘Imagination is the currency that sustains and propels the entertainment industries,’ he said during the ceremony.

A series of LA Times investigations last year revealed the lack of diversity in the HFPA’s voting membership. The expose reported that the 2021 voting panel did not include any Black members out of its 87 members.

In response to the LA Times article, the HPFA introduced a series of new bylaws and in October 2021, appointed 21 new voters to their board and created a new board of directors.

Jamie Lee: Jamie Lee Curtis appeared in a video touting the Hollywood Foreign Press’ philanthropic efforts, stating, ‘I am proud to be associated with them in this venture’

Arnold: Arnold Schwarzenegger also appeared in a video about the HFPA’s philanthropic ventures, stating, ‘They have not undertaken this journey for accolades, no’

The organization reports that it is the largest and most diverse class of new members in its history. Six of the new members are Black, 10 are women, six are Latinx, five are Asian and four are Middle Eastern/North African.

They also announced they hoped by 2023, the ethnic-minority of membership of the HFPA will have increased by 50%.

Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson were the stars leading calls for a Golden Globes boycott, with Scarlett saying she had faced ‘sexist questions and remarks by certain HFPA members that bordered on sexual harassment.’

She released a statement last year that read: ‘As an actor promoting a film, one is expected to participate in awards season by attending press conferences as well as awards shows.

‘In the past, this has often meant facing sexist questions and remarks by certain HFPA members that bordered on sexual harassment. It is the exact reason why I, for many years, refused to participate in their conferences.’

She continued: ‘Unless there is necessary fundamental reform within the organization, I believe it is time that we take a step back from the HFPA and focus on the importance and strength of unity within our unions and the industry as a whole’.

Celeb boycott: Staff members representing various non-profits supported by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association were on hand to announce winners while HFPA president Helen Hoehne (center), gave a speech focusing on the organisation’s attempts to diversify

The organization’s track record of overlooking black- and minority-led films and television series at the Golden Globes has also been frequently criticized.

This year’s nominations included nine people of colour across the acting and directing categories – the same number as for the 2021 awards.

Back in March, former president Philip Berk was expelled for forwarding an email dubbing Black Lives Matter a ‘hate movement,’ and two consultants hired to address the HFPA’s diversity issues quit over a lack of progress.

There were additional claims that the HFPA had not been inclusive enough to women or members of the LGBTQ community.

It was revealed Tuesday by Variety that the Globes’ talent booker reached out to several publicity agencies about getting celebrity presenters, but no celebs agreed to take part, instead staff members representing various non-profits supported by the HFPA were on hand to announce winners (pictured left: HFPA Grantee and Outfest Executive Director Damien S. Netflix and Amazon Studios both said they would cut ties with the HFPA if it didn’t swiftly enact more drastic changes.

‘We don´t believe these proposed new policies – particularly around the size and speed of membership growth – will tackle the HFPA´s systemic diversity and inclusion challenges, or the lack of clear standards for how your members should operate,’ Netflix co-chief executive Ted Sarandos wrote in a letter to the group.

WarnerMedia said it would cease holding screenings and other events for the HFPA until it made more substantial changes.

‘For far too long, demands for perks, special favors and unprofessional requests have been made to our teams and to others across the industry,’ WarnerMedia executives said in a letter. ‘We regret that as an industry, we have complained, but largely tolerated this behavior until now.’

In a statement, NBC said it believes the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is committed to reform. But the network said change couldn’t come quickly enough for the 2022 Globes.

‘However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right,’ the network said. ‘As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes. Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.’

Prior to Sunday’s muted ceremony, Ricky Gervais shared his experience of hosting the Golden Globes over the past decade.

The Office creator told The Sun: ‘The first time I did it, ten years ago, everyone was like, “Ah, how can you talk to these wonderful multi-millionaires, how can you talk to these beautiful people, like that? We love celebrities.”‘

He went on: ‘By the last one it was like, “God, give it to them, we hate celebrities!”‘ He infamously hosted the event back in 2020, where various celebrities were the butt of his biting jokes.

Ricky made jokes about Leonardo DiCaprio dating younger women, while he called out various celebrities for cosying up to Jeffrey Epstein and Harvey Weinstein.

He also commented on the fact that the public do not like ‘virtue signalling’ from celebrities anymore and that they do not ‘like to be lectured.’ He said: ‘The people with nothing became tired of being lectured by people who had everything.’

Bridges don’t build themselves: How Dems’ spending flop hurts their infrastructure victory

President Joe Biden locked down the infrastructure portion of his vision for economic recovery. Then Congress crushed the plan for training enough workers to turn that vision into reality.

Even before the president signed the bipartisan infrastructure package into law in November, economists warned that a shortage of skilled workers would spoil Democrats’ dreams of mass job creation. Weeks later, prospects withered for passing the other chunk of Biden’s master plan, the $1.7 trillion climate and social spending package, throwing into limbo the $20 billion for education and training programs that were supposed to get enough workers ready to do those jobs.

Now, the White House is scrambling to spend the $550 billion in infrastructure cash, as Democrats attempt to rev the economy and win over voters before the midterm elections next fall.

“You have to say to yourself, are we ready to build this much stuff this fast?” Mitch Landrieu, who Biden has charged with overseeing the infrastructure spending, said this month.

More than 10 million job openings remain unfilled throughout the country — a labor scarcity that could undermine both Democrats’ work to improve the nation’s infrastructure and their chances of holding control of Congress as Republicans vie to flip both chambers come November.

Stymied in their attempts to pass major elections reform and their signature social spending legislation, Democrats are emphasizing the bills they’ve already passed, namely pandemic relief and the infrastructure package. But that’s a tricky campaign-trail talking point without real progress to show for it.

Biden administration heads, raring to spend the first tranches of infrastructure money, have started talking logistics with industry leaders such as Randy Pacheco, the owner of a New Mexico company that plugs abandoned oil wells.

“This is an enormous — enormous — amount of pressure it’s going to create. How are you going to spend the money?” Pacheco said in an interview this week. “We don’t have a qualified workforce. We don’t even have training for it.”

Pacheco delivered the same message to federal officials this month during an Interior Department meeting about beginning to rapidly spend almost $5 billion to plug about 130,000 of those wells across 26 states.

Getting the infrastructure work done is doable “if you run to the fire,” said Landrieu, a former mayor of New Orleans and a former lieutenant governor of Louisiana. “And one of the fires is: Do we have enough people? … How do we create workforce training programs? How do we build capacity?”

The infrastructure bill does provide some money for worker training, including $32 million to get more people certified to drive commercial vehicles and trained to enforce the rules for using those heavy rigs. It also served up $40 million to train workers to do energy audits and $20 million for education on modern and energy-efficient building technology.

Still, that money pales in comparison to the funds languishing in the $1.7 trillion social spending package Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) singlehandedly put on ice last month. The so-called Build Back Better Act would spend almost $14 billion on Labor Department workforce efforts like apprenticeship programs to train workers for in-demand jobs like welding, plus more than $6 billion for Education Department efforts, including $5 billion to run community college programs that partner with businesses like companies that pour concrete.

Labor Secretary Marty Walsh said in an interview this week that he’s “still hopeful” the social spending package and its “significant investment in job training money” can advance despite the legislation’s uncertain path forward. While Manchin’s opposition has sent that bill back to the drawing board, Democratic leaders continue to hope they can pass a smaller version.

Before the infrastructure package reached final passage, the White House made clear that the legislation’s potential for creating jobs was directly tied to Biden’s other major spending plan. “Combined with the President’s Build Back Framework,” the infrastructure bill “will add an average 1.5 million jobs per year for the next 10 years,” the White House stated in November.

Andy Van Kleunen, who heads the National Skills Coalition, a jobs training advocacy organization, said the demand for infrastructure work simply exceeds capacity, “even if we took all the resources that are in the current workforce system and put them towards training folks for infrastructure jobs.”

“We need the additional resources from Build Back Better in order to be able to actually meet all the demand that we think the infrastructure package is going to require,” Van Kleunen said.

It’s a familiar dilemma for Biden, who was vice president when workforce shortages stifled the execution of former President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus in 2009.

“They don’t want to wind up like the Obama administration, which promised shovel-ready projects that turned out not to be so shovel ready,” said Nicole Smith, the chief economist at the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce.

Besides the social spending package, there is one more major funding bill that could boost worker training programs this year. If Democrats and Republicans can strike a budget accord to fund federal agencies until the fall, that government funding package is likely to surge spending on job training programs.

Democrats are seeking $12 billion for the Labor Department agency that handles employment and training programs, a 16 percent increase. They also want almost $103 billion in funding for the Education Department, a nearly 40 percent hike above current spending, including a 10 percent increase in cash for career and technical education.

All that cash is “interconnected,” said Rep. David Price (D-N.C.), who chairs the Transportation-HUD spending panel.

“A lot of the major infrastructure measures depend on this appropriations bill,” Price said. “They’re intertwined. And no matter what happens with anything else, we’ve got to not just keep the government open but also enact the investments we’ve made in those bills.”

Daily Report – Bitcoin and Market Update (January 29 2022) – The Birb Nest

HTF 12H:

The middaily chart displays very low volatility over the course of last hours, where the price action takes place within a narrow 500-1000 USD range. Let’s give it a deeper consideration for the potential scenarios ahead.

Firstly, BTCUSD is trading right above the BaseLine average, showing somewhat technical strength, yet it is lacking any greater strength. It seems to be simply oscillating around its average, so I would not necessarily put too much trust or focus on this. It is still more positive than not, though.

Secondly, bitcoin is currently supported by BWAP block (the orange box), which additionally is backing up the price action to the upside. The cluster of supports occurs at 36.3-37k USD region.

BPRO Momentum Bands suggest that standard deviation based volatility should cause bitcoin move between 31.3k USD and 43.3k USD levels for most of the time. Currently, bitcoin is trading right in the middle of the zone so there’s not much directional advantage of either way. As long as bitcoin remains over its average, the chances to retest the upper Band region are higher than they are for testing the lower Band region. Regular volatility suggests that 31.3-33.5k USD is a demand zone, while 41-43.3k USD is a supply zone.

CTF Trailer Stop at 40365 USD is the main resistance level, which with a proper daily/weekly close through it, should provide enough technical reasoning to confirm the reversal of this 2-month lasting correction.

MTF 4H:

MTF chart shows a tight range defined by local highs and lows of the candlestick series with BPRO pivot zones marked with thick orange and gray zones and levels.

Locally, it seems that the most important support level is defined at 35850 USD, while the main resistance is set at 43000 USD level. Bitcoin is trading at 37500 USD region at the moment of writing this review and as long as it trades above the said support level, there are high technical chances for heading towards 43000 USD, provided that no external news (wars, conflicts, catastrophes, etc.) interrupt.

The narrow range for the intraday price action spreads between 37150 USD lows and 38000 USD highs. A stronger breakout outside any of these levels implies the pattern unfold towards either 35850 USD or 39000 USD.

CTF Trailer (represented by the orange dot at the bottom) shows that the bulls currently have the upper hand as the trend mode is set for bullish, so as long as bitcoin saves the said support at 35850 USD, the technical target is 43000 USD.

LTF 1H:

The hourly chart continues inside the trading range of low volatility. After printing a local fake breakout through 38000 USD resistance, bitcoin is attempting to form the intraday base at 37400-37700 USD. It is also additionally backed by one of the Level Lines at 37657 USD.

HTF Trailer adjusted for the 4H time frame settings, implies that the main short-term level that bitcoin bulls need to defend is at 35970 USD. Like in the prior case, this level is additionally supported by a Level Line at 35943 USD.

The resistances defined by the price action of bitcoin are given as follows:

41100
39000
38200

BPRO Level Lines show supports at:

35943
34786
33136

These levels could be anticipated to serve as level-to-level references. In other words, when one level is breached, the next one in the direction of the movement can be expected to act as the next “magnet”

FEAR/GREED INDEX

Just a quick update on the sentiment side.

Extreme fear continues at 24 points on the scale with little to no change at all when compared with yesterday.

This overall market barometer implies that for the last two months straight crypto has become a “depressed ghost town” full of disbelievers.

Historically, because the market cycle mechanism, what goes down, eventually it should go back up sooner than later, as the market swings between oversold and overbought conditions. Provided that no external factors disrupt the markets again (wars, pandemics, catastrophes, etc.), I consider 33-37k USD range bound movement to be a basing pattern (including potential liquidity hunting right below the support or right above the resistance).

As the records suggest, those who keep shorting into the extreme fear soon are proved unprofitable and in loss, while those placing contrarian bets (buying the fear, selling the greed) are proved profitable.

Usually, the crowds are right in the middle of trends and wrong at the extremes. The fear is in the extreme now.

No matter how much longer it takes (days or weeks), I expect no different this time. Though, it certainly does not justify ignoring risk management rules, portfolio diversification, money management (position sizing), etc.

Hope this report helps you out!

Family member to adopt baby orphaned by suicides of Florida deputies

The infant son of two Florida cops who took their own lives last week will be adopted by a family member.

Clayton Osteen and Victoria Pacheco of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office left behind 1-month-old son Jayce Osteen when they killed themselves several days apart from one another, police said.

A friend who started a GoFundMe page for Jayce revealed that a relative had stepped in to raise the newborn baby.

“A close family member will be adopting Jayce,” Kelly Ridle wrote. “All donations will be used for enriching Jayce’s life experiences and securing a brighter future.”

About $95,000 worth of donations had been collected for the baby boy by Saturday night.

Osteen, 24, a former Marine, attempted suicide on Dec. 31 and was taken off life support on Sunday. Pacheco, 23, killed herself “in the wake of Deputy Osteen’s death,” Sheriff Ken Mascara said in a statement on Tuesday.

“As sheriff, I saw these two deputies as young, ambitious, and a great compliment to my already amazing group of professionals,” Mascara said.

“While it is impossible for us to fully comprehend the private circumstances leading up to this devastating loss, we pray that this tragedy becomes a catalyst for change, a catalyst to help ease the stigma surrounding well-being and normalize the conversation about the challenges so many of us face on a regular basis.”

Both of the late deputies, who a distraught family member compared to “Romeo and Juliet,” had been honored for saving other people’s lives in their relatively brief stints on the force.

Funeral services with military honors were held for the couple Saturday, according to Haisley Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, and pictures shared to the fundraising site.
