The execution of Hans Bonarewitz

The saying goes “Music can soothe the savage beast”, but what if it is the savage beast that is using the music as a cynical form of evil and torture.

In July 1942 Hans Bonarewitz attempted to escape from Mauthausen concentration camp, he tried to hide in a box. He was captured on July 30 1942.The picture above is him forced to pose for a photograph standing next to the box he wanted to escape in.

He was going to be executed, but rather then just killing him he was paraded though the camp, as if he was some circus attraction.

He was led to the gallows on a makeshift cart pulled by fellow inmates. The camp orchestra had to continuously play the song ” J’attendrai ton retour” – I shall wait for your return.

Another song, the traditional German children’s song “Alle Vögel sind schon da” – All the birds are back again,” was played immediately before execution. It was just evil on top of evil just for the sake of being evil and nothing else. How disgusted the musicians must have been, being forced to do this.

The information was discovered by Aitor Fernandádez-Pacheco,film maker of the documentary film “Mauthausen, una mirada Española,” who interviewed the former Spanish prisoner Mario Constante for his documentary.

Crypto Market And Legacy Report By Onchainlabs (May 5 2022) – The Birb Nest

Following from the last On Chain Report, FED Rate Hike was 50 bps as expected and markets reacted accordingly as they were already priced in for such event. We saw positive moves from risk on assets like cryptocurrencies and equities but we are still early to call this a bottom.

The FED tried to show they are aggressive but they doesn’t have much room to go. A total 2.25–3%+ rate will break the system. The FED in total confirmed 1.50 % rate hike so far and next time the FED rate hike won’t do anything to the market and everything will be all about the balance sheet reduction; any hawkish comments about this topic will indeed reflect on the price as fear and uncertainty is still present. Rate Hikes will not work to control inflation while commodities prices are high; Rusia/Ukraine war is still impacting markets and the new China Covid-19 lockdown will cause greater supply chain shocks that will turn into pushing inflation higher.

The labor market is strong and the notion that that will solve everything is unrealistic as inflation is shrinking their purchasing power and they will afford less now. Supply chain issues are not going anywhere as we have a reverse globalization sentiment between superpower nations. FED is doing what they have to to get some mid-term vote for the upcoming elections. The FED’s only destiny is to break the system and come back with trillions of more dollars to solve it and be a hero. Only scarce assets will save you from this madness and there’s currently nothing better than Bitcoin.

Now that we know the macro conditions, let’s take a look at some of the on-chain metrics to asses what’s happening behind scenes on Bitcoin.

Metric 1 — Exchange Reserve

This is an important metric to assess the total amount of coins held in exchanges. We can clearly see that since July Bitcoin bottom at USD 29.500 the exchange reserve has been constantly declining and basically showing us that the selling pressure has decreased as coins are being withdrawn and taken into cold storage to be held.

Metric 2— Wallet Balances

When we look at the wallet balances, it is clear that in below graphs they show us that smaller wallet cohorts are the ones that have been accumulating quite aggressively since July Bitcoin bottom. Larger Bitcoin wallet cohorts in between 10 to 100 native units, have been steady and there hasn’t been any negative or positive move from them. However, the wallets with addresses greater than 100 and 1,000 Bitcoin have seen increases in numbers over the past week, particularly the 100 Bitcoins wallets.

Metric 3—Exchange NetFlow

Now we take a look into the Exchange Net Flow. As we can see from the below chart, overall accumulation of Bitcoin remains relatively neutral, red spikes are a little bit more aggressive than green spikes showing us a possible stronger outflow than inflow. However, it is important that we look into the wallet cohorts on above graphs, to see if this strength on outflows is real. In this case it would be more encouraging to see bigger strength on bigger wallet cohorts to have more aggressive red spikes.

Metric 4 – Bitcoin — Net Unrealized Profit/Loss (NUPL)

Looking into this metrics, we can see if coins are being sold at a net profit or loss. The current graph is showing us that investors sentiment is currently in “anxiety” phase and possibly selling at losses. It is also important to note that current NUPL is showing that investors are holding through unrealized profit/loss. Overall, this shows a neutral sentiment amongst investors but for a bull market sentiment we would like to see this metric above 0.5 in which “euphoria” kicks in.

Wildlife crossings at highways bringing safer travels for all in San Benito County

On April 29, Caltrans and the California Natural Resources Agency, along with local partners including the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County and the Santa Cruz Regional Transportation Commission, broke ground on an undercrossing that will a provide enable mountain lions and other wildlife to travel safely between two large areas of habitat separated by Hwy 17 and allow for coastal wildlife to safely reach San Benito County.

A news release from Caltrans District 5 said the Laurel Curve Wildlife Undercrossing will connect the nearly 460 acres of land on both sides of the highway that has been preserved in a conservation easement by the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County. It added that this part of the highway is built over a large natural drainage, making it an ideal place for such a crossing.

“This unique and innovative project is the result of community collaboration and aligns with Caltrans’ commitment to safety and respect for the environment,” said Caltrans Acting Director Steven Keck. “This wildlife undercrossing will reconnect habitat on both sides of the highway while helping reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions, improving safety for the thousands of people who travel the Highway 17 corridor every day.”

“This project shows how people and nature can thrive together,” said California Secretary of Natural Resources Wade Crowfoot. “This undercrossing allows animals to connect to important habitat while protecting motorists from collisions. We’re excited to expand and accelerate these win-win conservation actions.”

High daily traffic combined with a concrete median and a lack of water passages or bridges in the area contribute to a high frequency of animal-vehicle collisions along Hwy 17, the release said.

“Mountain lions, bobcats, bear, deer and countless other species will benefit from this undercrossing and others like it,” said California Department of Fish and Wildlife Director Charlton H. Bonham.

The underpass will allow wildlife from the Santa Cruz side of the highway to reach Star Creek Ranch west of Hwy 129 at Hwy 101. A planned tunnel under 101 will allow animals to safely cross to Rocks Ranch, just south of the eucalyptus grove on 101, which includes more than2,670 acres of open space. According to the U.S. Forest Service, an adult male mountain lion’s home range is typically more than 100 square miles and a female’s generally 20 to 60 square miles.

Other wildlife found at Rocks Ranch include bobcats, golden eagles and endangered California red-legged frogs. There are also signs of Native American cultural artifacts, such as bedrock mortars.

According to The Santa Cruz Land Trust, when they worked with the Puma Project to collar and track mountain lions near Laurel Curve, they paid special attention to where these apex predators were headed. The answer was Rocks Ranch. There is no start date or estimated cost for the Hwy 101 wildlife corridor.

Pre-construction phases of the Hwy 17 undercrossing were funded with Caltrans’ State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) funds. The Santa Cruz Regional Transportation Commission will use voter-approved Measure D funds to leverage additional SHOPP and Land Trust dollars for construction. The Land Trust also secured $10 million in purchased property rights value.

The contractor for the $5.4 million Hwy 17 undercrossing is Graniterock and construction began in February. Completion is scheduled for the end of this year. Rachel Reed, Graniterock biological resources project manager, told BenitoLink this will be the first under- or overcrossing to be completed and in use in California.

“We’re proud to play a key role in making this project a reality for the community of Santa Cruz County,” Reed said. “As a company, we are strong supporters of new infrastructure that delivers environmental benefits as well as improves safety for motorists through this heavily traveled corridor.”

There are also plans for a possible second wildlife crossing that will benefit San Benito County wildlife. On April 19, the Highspeed Rail Authority announced a $3 million grant awarded by the California Wildlife Conservation Board to study a possible Pacheco Pass wildlife overcrossing near the planned high-speed rail line.

The rail authority said it partnered for the project with the Santa Clara Valley Habitat Agency, Caltrans, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority and Pathways for Wildlife.

“This grant aligns with the authority’s planning efforts to increase wildlife connectivity in the San Jose to Merced project section,” said Northern California Regional Director Boris Lipkin.

According to the authority, there are several sensitive wildlife areas along the planned rail corridor, including Pacheco Pass, and the authority has incorporated project elements to allow for wildlife movement.

“Without this being a team effort sitting at the table to develop a shared solution, I don’t think this outcome would have come to pass,” said Santa Clara Valley Habitat Agency Executive Officer Edmund Sullivan.

The grant will support up to four years of  planning and environmental review for the proposed overcrossing. This includes conducting a habitat modeling analysis, completing a feasibility study, preparing a project initiation report under Caltrans’ oversight and advancing the project design to 65% completion.

West Hartford Fire Department Celebrates Promotions, Exceptional Service and Other Awards – We-Ha | West Hartford News

The West Hartford Fire Department honored members with a variety of service awards earned over the past several years.

Members of the West Hartford Fire Department were honored May 2 at an event in the Town Hall Auditorium that celebrated several promotions, but also recognized those whose exceptional service over the period 2018-2021 has earned them a variety of departmental recognitions.

Those promoted included 20-year veteran Brian Antigiovanni, a second-generation firefighter, to the role of captain. He holds several advanced degrees and certifications, and currently leads Ladder Company 4.

James Phillips, who began his career in 1997 as a volunteer and has worked as a carpenter, dispatcher, truck driver, EMT, and paramedic, has been with the West Hartford Fire Department since 2011. He has served as a HazMat technician and apparatus operator, and has now been promoted to lieutenant.

Battalion Chief Jarrad Smith served as emcee for the event, which he also organized. Mayor Shari Cantor, who was traveling and unable to attend, shared a pre-recorded message with department members, commending them for extraordinary acts of bravery.

Acting Town Manager Rick Ledwith noted the acts of heroism and bravery that led to the commendations being awarded. “They will say they were just doing their job,” he said, but all who were honored were doing much more.

“Thank you for your tireless and selfless dedication,” Ledwith added.

“If you have seen the lengthy list of awards, it’s almost overwhelming,” Chief Greg Priest told the crowd of family, friends, other emergency service department members, and town officials in the audience. “The reality though is these individual and unit accomplishments reflect that there is a lot of tremendous work that happens, but many times it’s behind the scenes and something like this ceremony is necessary to bring it to light.”

Priest took over the department in 2018, and initially focus on filling key positions, and while recently there has been a return to celebrating promotions, the last time there was an awards ceremony was prior to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of those recognized have retired, and others have since been promoted, with the awards noting their current rank.

“The really good news is that while we may not have hit the mark in the area of recognition, our folks are really good at what counts, which is firefighting, EMS, rescue, community risk reduction, and serving our community,” Priest said “Today is about making up for missed awards and being consistent with recognizing post-pandemic promotions,” he said, adding that the department plans to conduct an annual awards ceremony going forward.

“Lifesaving and emergency situations are rarely individual efforts,” Priest said, noting that West Hartford Police and American Medical Response were also in attendance at the scene of many of the incidents for which members were being recognized, and were in attendance at the awards ceremony. “You are our partners in an effective emergency response every day, and I’m glad you are here with us as we recognize team efforts.”

Smith announced the recipients of each of the awards earned by department members and other emergency responders.

“Most of us did not choose this profession to achieve notoriety,” Smith said, noting that most people in the community aren’t having their best day when they are interacting with the fire department. Quoting Carl Sandburg, Smith said that the true test of valor is rising to the occasion when tested.

The department’s highest honor – the Firefighter Cross – was awarded to Lt. Robert Howe, who consistently rises to the occasion and passes “his test,” and “sets a very high bar for what it means to take decisive action when lives are at stake,” Smith said.

“It’s not the first time he’s been up here receiving a higher-level commendation for his actions in an emergency. Several years ago he was recognized for his life-saving actions at a major fire in town,” Smith said, but the most recent award involved his actions off duty, and involved great personal risk.

The incident which led to Howe receiving the Firefighter Cross occurred in April 2021. Smith said that Howe, who was recovering from shoulder surgery, had just arrived at his girlfriend’s condo in Tolland when he heard screams for help.

“Lt. Howe quickly determined that a young man was trapped in a condo unit that was on fire. Upon reaching the door to the condo Lt. Howe encountered a tremendous amount of heat and smoke. Recognizing that a life was in jeopardy, Lt. Howe removed his shoulder sling and despite the ensuing discomfort began to crawl under the intense smoke and heat. While crawling he was yelling the trapped victim’s name. It was not until 15 feet inside the condo that he was able to locate the trapped victim. Lt. Howe was able to remove the victim from the burning building. Thanks to his heroic and selfless actions the victim was not seriously injured, but it should be noted that the young man’s shorts had started to melt and his attached medical device was also melted due to his proximity to the fire.”

Despite his shoulder discomfort, Howe continued to assist in the incident, Smith said, using a garden house to keep the fire in check and providing assistance to the Tolland Fire Department until enough crew members had arrived on the scene.

Member of the Year awards – the Patrick L. Brooks Firefighter of the Year Award, named for a member of Local 1241 who died on duty in November 2002 – were given to individuals who stand out among their peers for excellence, and being selfless, caring, and dedicated, Smith said. “A professional who shows unwavering commitment to the department’s vision, mission, and goals 365 days a year.” The awardees for the past three years include Firefighter/Paramedic Rocco Laudato (2109), Lt./Paramedic Steeve Parent (2020), and Lt. Robert Howe (2021).

The Gene T. Hoffman Award – honoring an apparatus operator for commitment to safety and excellence and named for a veteran firefighter who passed away from an occupational cancer – was also given to three department members, one of them posthumously. Apparatus Operator Daniel Syme received the award for 2019, and Apparatus Operator Nikhom “Eddie” Keopraseuth received it for 2021, and for 2020 the award for Apparatus Operator Joseph Mangione was accepted by Lt. Kyle Chapin.

Mangione passed away from pancreatic cancer in August 2020. “In his last year of service, as he was battling stage 4 cancer and undergoing chemotherapy, Joe spent many hours training new drivers – something he had become exceptionally good at. At the tie of his passing Joe had personally trained every driver in the West Hartford Fire Department at one time or another. He was tough as nails, loved his family, and nothing made him happier than driving the big red truck. He is the only two-time Gene T. Hoffman Award nominee in our history,” Smith said.

Exceptional Service Medals – “awarded to a member of the fire department who displays personal and/or professional excellence beyond organizational expectations in the performance of a member’s duties while carrying out the vision, mission, and goals of the West Hartford Fire Department” were presented to Lt. Troy Shipley, Apparatus Operator Kristin Fillian, Apparatus Operator William Schappert, Firefighter/Paramedic Matthew Traber, and retired Firefighter/Paramedic Jason Erban.

Dozens of members of the West Hartford Fire Department, as well as members of the West Hartford Police Department and American Medical Response were named as recipients of Life Saving Awards, given “to a crew of members who, through teamwork, communication, and clinical skills successfully save a human life during a medical emergency.” Recipients of the award, for actions that took place between 2018 and 2021, include: Battalion Chief Keith Byrne (retired), Battalion Chief William Kall (retired), Capt. William Beebe, Capt. Kevin Ingraham, Lt. John Bingham, Lt. Branden Bohan, Lt. Russell Duffy, Lt. Paula-Ruth Kenahan, Lt. Brian Barren, Lt. Unit Citations were awarded to teams of firefighters, “led by an officer that through teamwork, training, and decisive action performs as more than the sum of its parts.” Incidents for which teams earned Unit Citations included a fire at the Hartford Golf Club on Oct. 26, 2o18 (Capt. Jeffrey Dufresne, Lt. Robert Howe, Lt. Ryan Shea); Kane Street fire on Aug. 26, 2019 (Lt. John Bigham, Lt. Ryan Shea, Lt. Robert Howe, Apparatus Operator David Noyes); partial structural collapse on May 6, 2021 (Capt. Adam Pacheco, Capt. Joseph Robidoux (retired), Lt. John Bigham Lt. Brandon Bohan, Apparatus Operator Kevin Foster, Apparatus Operator Nikhom Keopraseuth, Apparatus Operator Matthew Lyons, Apparatus Operator David Noyes, Apparatus Operator Daniel Syme, Firefighter/Paramedic Tiffany Armas-Ortiz, Firefighter Anthony Leca, Firefighter/Paramedic Erik Myrick, Firefighter/Paramedic Dante Pezzolesi, Firefighter/Paramedic Matthew Traber, Firefighter/Paramedic Matt Wilson (retired); and for assisting a West Hartford Police officer engaged in a physical altercation on Feb. 19, 2020 (Capt. One award given to department members that doesn’t involve actions take on what is likely one of the worst days is the Stork Award. The recipients – who have helped deliver healthy babies in the field during two incidents in 2019 and 2020 – include Lt. John Bigham, Lt. Robert Howe, Lt. Ryan Shea, Firefighter/Paramedic Matthew Traber, and Firefighter/Paramedic Victoire Will (currently deployed).

The final citation was the Community Risk Reduction Award, noting those who have prevented tragedy by lessening the risks in the community.

“In the last few years the challenge of community-based risk reduction took a new and unprecedented for with the COVID-19 pandemic, but the pandemic did not stop fires from occurring, accidents happening, and despite all the warnings and precautions the virus spread,” Smith said. Those receiving the Community Risk Reduction Award, who spent countless hours distributing PPE, educating the community on wearing masks, enforcing executive orders, and more, “distinguished themselves by not just stepping out of the box, but by leaping far and beyond it, to prevent this unprecedented emergency from increasing in its scope and severity.”

Recipients were Fire Marshal Robert Grimaldi, Deputy Fire Marshal Marsha Adell, Deputy Emergency Manager Robert McCue (a former assistant police chief who stepped out of retirement, and Capt. Jeffrey Dufresne. The award was also given to someone outside of the department, for the first time ever, recognizing the work that West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District Director Aimee Krauss did in managing the COVID-19 pandemic as the “backbone of the public health response.”

Daily Report – Bitcoin and Market Update (May 14 2022) – The Birb Nest

HTF 12H:

The middaily chart has so far shown a significant demand lying in the books under the 28000 USD support. While this may be a subject to change, BTC had already seen a violent crash, liquidations, and selling climax.

After crashing into the 25000 USD support, bitcoin has bounced off the lows and managed to reach the resistance of 32000 USD – one of the supports prior to the crash. However, the main resistance level is yet to be attempted.

The CTF Trailer has naturally adjusted downwards, creating the most relevant technical breakout level for the 12H time frame. For this, I consider it a relevant level for shorter term traders, and – once broken – leading to longer-term implications. The CTF Trailer Stop is at $33639 and it is the main invalidation level for the bears. As soon as bitcoin breaks above the threshold, the bulls re-gain control over the market with higher chances of following through to the upside.

Otherwise, bitcoin remains in the danger zone, unless a weekly close through the prior support of $28800 is broken through. A weekly close above that level would confirm that the levels lying under the support have been demanded as the market was buying into the lows. This could potentially trigger a recovery rally. However, it is too early to confirm that, before the week close.

MTF 4H:

The MTF chart has retraced off the 31000 USD highs, locally and bitcoin is not attempting to build a base at the low 29000s USD.

The CTF Trailer confirms the main flat resistance to breach for the short-term traders is $31359 for bitcoin bulls. If this level is reclaimed, there are higher chances of recording a follow-through to the upside. Until that happens, I would expect bitcoin to continue trading sideways for a moment, within a range defined by the volatility.

The Momentum Bands imply the volatility range for the next sessions to come. According to the Bandwidth, the 26800-32800 USD zone is the one bitcoin theoretically should find most likely to trade within. It may be assumed that the chances are bitcoin would revisit the lows of 26800 USD at one point, and it would still be within the “healthy” projected volatility, without further consequence to the trend or prices.

A clean break outside the Low Band or the High Band may lead to a volatility breakout, if there is a higher time frame close through either of the boundaries given for the range. Such a volatility breakout would bring higher chances of BTC to continue to trade in the direction of the breakout.

LTF 1H:

The hourly chart suggests a local failure to break outside the bullish pennant pattern through the 31000 USD resistance. While this is not decisive, it would have been good-to-have for the bulls.

The failure to break outside the pattern to the upside raises questions of the bulls’ persistence and it may seem that bitcoin is not yet ready for the push and follow-through to the upside, against the bullish favors.

Prior to the pennant pattern, there was an instance of inverse head and shoulders pattern, where the head is the very trough level, with both of the shoulders marking lows around 28000 USD. A clean break back below the 28000 USD is a clean invalidation and a failure to the head and shoulders breakout, which led later to the failed pennant.

At the same time, the downwards trend line would be broken back below a key threshold level – the support of 28000 USD. It is worth noting that failed patterns tend to perform better in the opposite direction than anticipated based on the pattern itself. A breakout failure, hence, may lead to aggressive and violent move against the pattern traders. For this reason, it is suggested to consider tight & well-defined protective stops and reasonable money management.

The BWAP resistance block is formed at 29.8-30.2k USD zone, based on the price and volume factors. A clean break above the region potentially may lead to upside acceleration. Otherwise, bitcoin may search for lower price targets.

Overall, the BPRO Level Lines show resistances at:

40034
37859
35499
33403
29413

These levels could be anticipated to serve as level-to-level references. In other words, when one level is breached, the next one in the direction of the movement can be expected to act as the next “magnet”

FEAR/GREED INDEX:

The panic state seems to be at its climax levels.

While the fear/greed index is not a timing indicator, and should not be expected to be such, it is worth nothing the fear extremity has now reached 9 points on the scale. This is the first instance of such seens since the very bottom of the COVID crash in March 2020, or the bottom of the 2018 bear market. Of course, the past data is never a guarantee of future performance, yet, it is still worth accounting for the amount of irrationality in the market right now – rarely ever seen.

The contrarian traders may consider current levels of bitcoin to be “extremely cheap”, accounting for the past fear/greed index readings at the market troughs in the past, within the bull market cycle.

As traders, we all undergo emotional processes and perception biases, which distort our reality reading skills, due to cognitive biases – faulty reasoning, human errors, and emotional biases – driven by fear and greed. Regardless of the type of the bias, every time such a bias can lead to a mistaken conclusion regarding the market performance and cause irrational decisions.

Due to the saliency or representativeness bias, traders tend to believe that the trends last forever. If the market had been trending downwards, the fear climax comes with the greatest deal of traders believing it would continue this way forever. An inverse case may be explained for the upside trends, leading to irrational exuberance and excessive spending at the market peaks in euphoria.

Statistically speaking, the longer the downwards trend lasts, the lower the chances for the downwisde continuation, because, as the theory of runs explains, the probability decreases sharply the run of many losses will be sustained. Again, an inverse case may be applied for the upwards trend instances.

Finally, this thorough explanation is to serve traders’ rationale and enhance logical analysis and reading of the market, so one can have higher chances of winning and benefiting from it.

I hope this helps. God bless all.
