While we’ve all heard horror stories of someone losing a phone, we don’t usually hear any happy endings. However, one British man found himself reunited with his lost iPhone 10 months after dropping it in a river, according to BBC.

In August 2021, Owain Davies dropped his iPhone while canoeing in Wye River in Gloucestershire. Just a few weeks ago, while canoeing with family, Miguel Pacheco came across the lost iPhone floating in the water.

Pacheco dried the device out at home and posted photos on a public Facebook group to locate the lost iPhone’s owner. He wanted to return it to the owner as there may have been “sentimental” things on the device. BBC states Pacheco dried out the iPhone with an air compressor prior to placing in an airing cupboard overnight.

“I know if I lost my phone, I’ve got a lot of pictures of my children, I know I’d want that back, ” Pacheco said.

Much to his surprise, after drying overnight, he put the phone on a charger and it began to charge. On it, the lost iPhone displayed a lock screen photo of a man and a woman. The date was August 13; the day the device had been submerged in the river.

Within the public Cinderford Noticeboard Facebook group, the post of the lost iPhone was shared over 4,000 times. It didn’t come at the best time as the owner hadn’t been on social media for six months. However, friends eventually recognized the couple in the lock screen as Owain Davis and his fiancée, residents of Edinburgh.

Davies said that he was in a two-person canoe when his partner stood up; thus hauling the iPhone out of his back pocket and into the water.

9to5Mac’s Take

You don’t hear stories like this one everyday and it’s nice to see a good samaritan looking to return a lost item. While people lose their iPhones all the time, they likely never see them again. I have heard other stories of people losing phones while canoeing; for people who canoe often, I’d recommend wearing an Apple Watch with cellular or purchasing AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss prior to the trip. Losing a device can be costly and quite an inconvenience that certainly no one wants to go through.

Imagine losing a phone 10 months ago in a river and finding it in working condition. Sounds unbelievable, right? Well, it is not a figment of our imagination but is a true incident. A UK-based man had dropped his iPhone ten months ago in a river. With no hopes of finding it back, he moved on but one day he was informed that his lost phone had been recovered.

As per a BBC report, UK-based Owain Davies had dropped his iPhone into the River Wye near Cinderford, Gloucestershire (UK) in August 2021 during a bachelor party. He probably returned home with the thought of never finding the phone back. Then, almost ten months later, he was contacted by Miguel Pacheco, who went canoeing with his family on the same river. While canoeing, he came across Davies’ iPhone and picked up the lost device from the river. To find the owner of the phone, he posted about the same on Facebook after drying the phone. “I didn’t think it was any good. It was full of water,” he told the BBC.

Despite knowing the phone would probably not restart, he made any attempts to dry the phone because he thought there may have been “sentimental” things on it. “I know if I lost my phone, I’ve got a lot of pictures of my children, I know I’d want that back, ” he said.

However, when he put the device in charge, he couldn’t believe what his eyes saw. The phone started drawing power from the charger and when he switched it on, he saw a screensaver of a man and woman with the date 13 August; the day the phone had fallen into the river. Pacheco’s post about the lost iPhone was shared 4000 times on Facebook, but Davies was not on social media. His friends, however, recognised the phone and helped Davies with connecting with Pacheco.
“I was in a two-man canoe and my partner probably shouldn’t have stood up, and, needless to say, we fell in.The phone was in my back pocket and as soon as it was in the water I realised the phone was gone, Davies told BBC. He also said that he was impressed by all the efforts Pacheco took for his phone.

The iPhones that were launched in recent years are all IP68 rated, which means that the phones can survive up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for 30 minutes, but this was a miracle that does not happen too frequently.

Most parents would be concerned to receive a note from the school bus driver. But Annaliese and Jorge Narvaez-Salgado’s parents had no reason to be.

Cindy Clausen, a bus driver in Princeton, New Jersey, sent a note to the parents of the two young riders to tell them, “how beautiful your children are, inside and out!”

Why One Bus Driver Wrote a Letter About Two Students

Clausen, 60, who has been driving for the Princeton public schools for 23 years, wrote that Annaliese and Jorge showed compassion and support to a fellow rider, 7-year-old Jaxson Blue, who has a degenerative condition that makes it hard to walk.

Every day, your children ask if they can sit with Jaxson. Today, Annaliese looked out from around her seat and said, ‘Come on Jaxson, you can do it,’ and when we arrived at school, Jorge took it upon himself to carry out his backpack.

“I know you know how wonderful your children are, but I wanted you to know that it shows,” she wrote.

Clausen writes that some days Jaxson is a little sad getting on the bus but as soon as he sees Annaliese and Jorge he smiles.

Jaxson’s mom, Belmax De Jesus, also smiled when she read about the children and their inspiring behavior.

How Two Children Proved the Importance of Compassion

“I look at them as angels because it’s like, how do they know how to be so compassionate and so kind? It’s so pure and genuine. I’m also very grateful for the parents because clearly they’re doing something right. For their kids to be so open and loving, that is definitely stemming from the home,” Belmax De Jesus told Chasing News.

The note, which was posted on the Facebook page Love What Matters, received more than 45,000 likes and was shared more than 3,000 times.

With bullying stories flooding the news, it’s heartwarming to read a letter about two young children who show kindness day after day. Teach your kids to be kind. It could mean the world to kids like Jaxson.

Today our Seattle Mariners face off against the Baltimore Orioles for the first time this season and will get a look at their shiny new toy catcher, Adley Rutschman.

You may notice that Kyle Lewis isn’t in tonight’s lineup and here lies the reason:

.@shannondrayer with an update on Kyle Lewis on @SeattleSports just now: the Mariners are evaluating him for a concussion after he was hit in the head by a pitch on Saturday night. There’s a possibility he could land on the 7-day concussion IL.
