Wolverine Miles Morales’ Version of Sabretooth Is Revealed to Be [SPOILER]
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for What If… Miles Morales Became Wolverine? #1, now on sale from Marvel Comics
Miles Morales is donning Wolverine’s mask and claws in a new issue of What If…? and, in this reality, Sabertooth is none other than Aaron Davis.
What If…Miles Morales Became Wolverine #1 imagines what the Marvel Universe would look like if Miles became the Wolverine persona instead of Logan or Laura Kinney. After taking down an army of Sentinels and a masked assassin that really just turns out to be his father, Miles’ Wolverine variant finds himself facing Sabertooth — who, in this reality, is Miles’ uncle Aaron.
Similar to the Earth-1610 continuity, Aaron and Jefferson Davis harbor a lot of resentment toward one another in What If…? Miles Morales Became Wolverine #1. Aaron explains that he told his brother not to “let me go to prison! Don’t let me rot in a cell! I begged you, and you didn’t lift a finger.” Instead of getting help from his brother, Aaron says that Malcolm Colcord, who was part of the original Weapon X program, rescued him and turned him into Sabertooth. Miles gets involved after Aaron and Jefferson start fighting one another. Miles stabs his uncle with his bone claws and has an opportunity to cut off Aaron’s head with Jefferson’s sword; however, his father talks him out of doing so. Following the fight, Jefferson succumbs to the injuries he received when fighting Aaron.
Shortly after laying his father to rest, Miles vows to get revenge on Colcord — and, luckily for him, he has some help. He turns to find himself facing Professor Xavier, who is a Ganke Lee variant in this universe, and a team of X-Men. Ganke is traditionally seen as Miles’ best friend, though typically one who doesn’t have superpowers. Miles will also meet a different variant of Ganke when traveling through the multiverse in the upcoming Miles Morales: Spider-Man #39. In that reality, Marvel said that Ganke will be a rebel leader helping to dethrone Miles’ evil clone alongside Miles’ younger sister, Billie.
Marvel’s first issue of What If…? Miles Morales saw the fan-favorite Spider-Man character become Captain America. The third issue will see him infected with gamma radiation and become the Hulk, while the fourth will see him trade web-shooters for Mjolnir as he transforms into Thor. Marvel has not yet announced which hero Miles will become in the fifth and final issue of the series.
What If…Miles Morales Became Wolverine #1 comes from writer John Ridley, artist Farid Karami, color artist Chris Sotomayor and letterer VC’s Cory Petit, with cover art by Sara Pichelli and Nolan Woodard and variant cover art by Declan Shalvey, Carlos Pacheco, Rafael Fonteriz, Guru-eFX and Paco Medina. The issue is on sale now from Marvel.
