Meeting the Buddha: A Dialogue of Doubt and Faith

Meeting the Buddha: A Dialogue of Doubt and Faith

Doubt is not the opposite of faith.

A doubting mind is in dialogue with faith. A system that does not allow questioning is a doorway to fanaticism, a rigor mortis of the intellect. A fanatic’s faith seems intense, but this is only to compensate for its brittle nature, unable to withstand anything outside of its prescribed limits.

For a fanatic, ideas and concepts have calcified into self-justifying structures that obscure their original purpose.

Although you might not consider yourself a fanatic, crystallizations of belief happen at every stage, sometimes in exceedingly subtle ways.

“God is love,” the Consciousness of Oneness, the pure “I am”—these are all concepts. They will help you. If you hold to them as real in themselves, you will not reach that which they point to.

Although concepts are necessary as long as we interact through the mind, some traditions attempt to minimalize dependence on them by taking an approach of apophatic or negative theology.

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived.” (1 Corinthians 2.9)

“Neti, neti,” spoke the masters of Vedanta. Not this, nor that; whatever you believe, if you can believe in it, it is not the Truth. What you seek is too intimate and too alive to be contained even in the sweetest words.

The Use of Concepts

Beliefs and conceptualizations can be highly beneficial as they funnel your mind in a particular direction. From one perspective, spiritual philosophies function as an asana for the mind. Arrange your body in a certain position, the energy will flow in a specific way, and you have some experience based on this.

Similarly, if you learn to think in a specific way, it generates an inner experience that is alive and quite real, although the process that brought you there is mental and, therefore, in itself unreal.

This is how many different spiritual traditions can be equally valid—they are genuine, functioning routes to an encounter with God—even while proposing wildly different methodologies and philosophies.

The conceptual aspect of spirituality is prescriptive, not descriptive. If you think that all the world’s religions are trying to describe God, then all of them would be wrong. You cannot describe God.

If you think instead that they offer conditions to realize God, a pathway through the labyrinth of the mind, then they are all true because they lead to Truth.

From Mental Knowing to Contact with the Unknown

Along the way, you must be very careful of the innate tendency of the mind to concretize, externalize, and weave elaborate stories around a simple truth. It’s natural to form an emotional attachment to the teachings you follow since they appear to bring you closer to God. Love them, honor them, appreciate them for what they are—but do not mistake them for Reality.

God is the one bringing you closer to God. The teachings are only a means of communicating in a language you understand.

Sometimes our doubts are what Buddhists call “lazy doubt:” You don’t immediately buy into some idea and, rather than taking the trouble to investigate it, you reject it and maybe the whole system that it comes from.

These doubts are a significant obstacle. They separate us from teachings that might be highly beneficial and set up an adversarial relationship between a concretized “me” and an unacceptable point of view.

But then, there is also a healthy doubt that works as a corrosive agent on the structures of the mind. This is the doubt that keeps you asking questions, including questioning yourself and your own perspective.

If something in the spiritual teachings you are following doesn’t resonate, you might ask, is it essential? What is essential in the teachings, and what is circumstantial? Why do I object to it?

What perspective on reality would I need to have for this to make sense?

Doubt shows us our contact with the unknown.

It keeps us from settling into any one position. It keeps the grounding moving underneath our feet, so we must constantly rebalance, reconsider, and approach from new angles. We have to engage with life itself as it happens.

Questioning, more than any answer, keeps us moving forward.

Killing the Buddha

Some advice from a 9th-century Buddhist master: “If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.”

Initially disturbing, perhaps—even blasphemous—but that moment of shock is precisely the intended effect, shaking a long-term practitioner’s attachment to the externalities of their spiritual path.

The Buddha himself—who forbade making statues in his image and often gave contradictory teachings or sermons with no words at all—most likely would have said the same, had he believed someone would not write his words down and canonize them as a sutra for young monks to memorize.

In the words of Chris Pacheco, a contemporary Buddhist writer:

“Killing the Buddha means killing our conceptualizations, killing the belief that we understand it all. This might seem counterintuitive; after all, if we let go of our knowledge, what’s left? Total exposure. It consists of the openness of all experiences, the certainty of uncertainty, the security of insecurity, and the comfort of vulnerability. It’s being courageously present, whatever that means, with things just as they are. We are each our own teacher and simultaneously each our own teaching.”

At some point along the path, you may need to radically detach from even the most beloved images and concepts to set your heart on the truth they represent.

The Freedom of Faith

St. Thomas Aquinas said, “To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.”

Faith does not spring from having all your questions resolved. It transcends questions and answers, as free as a fresh spring breeze, as spontaneous and unfathomable as the mysterious first pulse of an unborn baby’s heart.

Guiding from within, it depends on no external cause and persists against all reason.

Once you have touched that gentle inner flame, although you may experience ups and downs, no fluctuation of the mind will truly disconnect you from it.

Doubt can take you deeper into faith. It shears away your reliance on externalities and static concepts, leaving you face-to-face with the chasm of unknowability at the heart of manifested existence.

From there, the choice is yours, whether to create a new structure of concept and understanding around yourself, or let yourself go in freefall, trusting not in the mind but in the unfailing grace of life itself.

Saving Sea Turtles one school at a time: Environmental education in Uruguay.

There is no doubt sea turtles are one of the most marvellous but most endangered animals in our oceans. A study in Uruguay showed that 70% of green turtles had marine debris in at least one section of their digestive tract 1 – which is shocking. However, what if you can educate children, teenagers and adults to have a positive impact in sea turtle conservation?

Uruguay, located in the southern cone of South America by the Atlantic Ocean and Rio de la Plata, is home to five of the seven species of sea turtles worldwide. Every summer, these reptiles feast on Uruguay’s seaweeds, marine invertebrates, and fishes in searching for nutritious food.2 Karumbé is a non-government organization that has researched, rehabilitated and conserved sea turtles, and educated citizens in Uruguay, since 1999. Ayelén Pacheco coordinates the organization’s educational and outreach programmes.

Ayelén is well known in Karumbé for being motivated, cheerful and a great leader. Her passion for Earth’s biodiversity heritage and geoconservation brought her to her first job as an environmental educator, while she was studying to become a geologist.

When she had just returned from the last sea turtle release of the summer, we had a morning talk on how she got into conservation, how to deal with “eco-phobia” around sea turtles, some of the challenges she faces every day working in South America, and her greatest moments in the field. Let’s dive into the details!

Ayelén, how did you end up coordinating education programmes at Karumbé?

I’ve always felt curious around nature, and my family had a great influence on me. My brother is a biologist and my mum is a teacher – I watched her plan and design content for her classes all my life. One day my brother encouraged me to volunteer in Karumbé, so I did. Back in 2014, I was cleaning tanks and feeding the sea turtles that were in rehab. I felt frustrated sometimes because of the negative conditions some turtles were coming into the emergency room (ER) with.

I wanted to help to conserve sea turtles, and I realized I could be proactive in trying to educate and change human attitudes. At that time the education team was only one member: me. I started to coordinate the outreach activities – and here we are! I now connect both my passions: geoconservation, biological and nature heritage with education.

What are your main activities in your role?

Karumbe’s research centre is located in La Coronilla, by the Atlantic coast, and most of my time is spent designing the strategies on how to engage with the local community.  I create the educational activities content with each school and high school in mind, to enrich the experience of every student. I arrange activities for specific subjects, like science or art, and also for students with different learning capacities. I also organize the agendas for the activities and allocate a member of the team to be there.

I also design the communication strategy for our social media – which has been a learning experience. I realized there are a lot of kids and adults that are sensible to certain topics. In particular, some images or data can cause anxiety, sadness and frustration. Is called ecophobia. My main focus is to speak about the data we collect – which can be devastating – in a way that can have a positive impact on people. We want our message to be: “hey, let’s keep being responsible with plastic and save the turtles!”

What is the best part of your job?

I really enjoy every step of the process, from traveling around Uruguay, to designing the activities with the teachers, and getting to know the students.

If I have to choose one thing… I would say the best part is to experience the impact our activities have over time. Recently, a school we worked with built a recycle point and developed science and conservation clubs. Seeing how the students change their point of views through the years is amazing.

“I am really blessed and grateful to be working in environmental education.” Credit: Ayelén Pacheco.

What is the one thing you don’t like about your job?

Definitely giving interviews in front of a camera on live television! We invite them when we take turtles back to the sea, as it is important to showcase our work to the whole country. Talking about our work and importance of sea turtles outside of a classroom is the most challenging activity for me.

Talking of achievements, what are you most proud of so far?

I’m really grateful to Karumbé’s directors for giving me the opportunity to develop and grow the outreach team. Now we are a team of 10 and we have accomplished a goal for the first time since Karumbé was created – we reached 1,500 students in a year in 2022! Building a confident and strong relationship with each teacher and institution, and the fact they continue working with us each year, means our work is having a positive impact.

Ayelén started as a volunteer in Karumbé and now leads a group of 10 volunteers that reached more than 1,500 students in 2022. Their activities occurred all around Uruguay, from classroom’s workshops to beach clean-ups, microplastic hunting and sea turtles releases. Credit: Ayelén Pacheco.

What are the challenges of working in conservation in Uruguay?

Everything happens slowly in Uruguay. Financing is hard to access for conservation projects. So, trying to develop these projects with little resources is the greatest challenge. I would also say there is a lack of support, for instance our research centre is located in one of the largest feeding grounds and Marine Protected Areas in Uruguay – and it is difficult for us to reach and research around the area. Cooperation between researchers, government and the local community is something we should work on.

Finally, what advice would you give someone wishing to follow in your footsteps?

First of all, I would say reach out to any organization that interests you and get involved. If you are passionate about the conservation of sea turtles, Karumbé has its doors open for volunteers from all around the globe.

A scientist is holding a sea turtle. Children and teachers are lining by the sea shore waiting for the scientist to bring the animal back in the ocean.

Every winter in Uruguay’s waters, turtles suffer from hypothermia, or get tangled in debris and can be found on the beaches. Once Karumbe’s professionals find them and rehabilitate them, they return sea turtles to the Atlantic ocean in summer. Karumbé celebrates this activity with the schools and students they worked with throughout the year. Credit: Ayelén Pacheco.

Any experience you get will help you discover which parts of a job you like and dislike, and in which areas you feel most comfortable.

And my second piece of advice is: learn and develop skills that will enable you to come up with solutions or prepare you for a future role. For instance, I got the chance to take online courses about environmental education, and got a similar role in another organization, where I developed new skills that I can also apply in Karumbé.

“I am a true believer that to conserve sea turtles we have to think globally and act locally. So if you are a career switcher, student or early professional, get involved with your community as soon as you can. It’s worth it!”

If you are interested in learning more about Karumbé, and want to have a great experience in Uruguay with them, please visit their website, Instagram and Facebook pages.

You can contact them by e-mail on [email protected].

Carne Asada Fest Grew Its Brand By Harnessing a Familial Pastime – D Magazine

There is more to Carne Asada Fest than the cuisine it serves. And although the festival will host Grammy award-winning musicians and local artists, it’s also more than a music festival.

Carne Asada Fest is a cultural gathering that celebrates Dallas’ Latin culture by way of a familial pastime. The one-day festival returns May 28 at 2 p.m. at Gilley’s Dallas.

The event stems from a team of creatives headed by singer songwriter Sonia Kilo. They envisioned an immersive experience that would showcase Dallas’ abundant Latin talent, creativity, and culture. The team, their vendors, and artists are a family and this is their carne asada. At the carne asada, everyone is invited.

“The idea behind Carne Asada Fest was inviting people out to enjoy the culture and what it is to be a Latino,” says Kilo. “It’s called Carne Asada Fest because it’s really just a kickback.”

The festival debuted July 10, 2021 at Sons of Hermann Hall. Over 1,000 Dallasites packed the Deep Ellum venue. They ate birria tacos, pupusas and carne asada burritos while listening to Dallas rap legend Big Tuck.

The six-week effort to shape the inaugural Carne Asada Fest set in motion what was likely the biggest carne asada in Dallas in 2022.

“Nobody would be willing to make that jump from a 500 capacity venue to 3,000, but she did it,” says Miguel Castro, the festival’s marketing and engagement director.

On May 29, 2022, over 2,700 people attended Carne Asada Fest’s debut at Gilley’s Dallas.

The festival is a large-scale replication of a cherished tradition. For many Latino families, weekends are often reserved for la carne asada, a cookout centered on togetherness.

“Carne asada, for me, was always my aunts, and my uncles and my grandparents coming over,” Kilo says. “My biggest memories were with my family outside dancing all night and just cooking really good fajitas.”

A carne asada has three essentials: food, music, and people.

At most carne asadas, family and friends gather. The grill gets fired up. The meat is abundant and sizzled to the perfect tenderness. Conversations are long and music is loud. Adults and children dance to cumbias, rancheras, tejano, corridos, and hip-hop well into the night.

The carne asada is a reprieve from day-to-day responsibilities. It is a jovial time to reconnect.

“There’s no better way to tell people what it is to be a Latino than from real people, and you get that from [the Carne Asada Fest team],” Kilo says. “We truly grew up in the city and grew up with these roots of being Latino.”

At the heart of the festival is food. The festival has garnered national recognition for its food component. Both Mashed and USA Today named Carne Asada Fest one of the top food festivals in the U.S.

“I couldn’t believe it,” says Jaime Jaimes, the festival’s food vendor and owner of Smokin Dawgz BBQ. “It was unreal.”

Smokin Dawgz BBQ is part of a core group of vendors including Jazzy’s Tacos, Lokito Cokito, Sarape Treats, and Elotes de Mendoza that have been with the festival since its inception.

This year there will be over 35 food vendors. Newcomers include local favorites Lord of the Wings, Chef Tastebudz, and Pacheco Taco N Burger. The festival’s musical offerings are just as enticing.

“Our music and our food go hand-in-hand,” the founder says.

Carne Asada Fest is now held at Gilley’s after outgrowing its first home at Sons of Hermann Hall.
Carne Asada Fest

The 2023 music lineup is nostalgic. It takes every generation of the family into account and is inclusive of all genres. Grammy-winning Tejano artist Michael Salgado, Grammy-nominated merengue group Fulanito, Chicano rap sensation MC Magic, and Latin electronic dance music DJ Rayburger are headlining this year’s festival.

They will perform on stage with $10,000 of stage production enhancements including specialty lighting and screens.  “When you go to a carne asada, it’s like a playlist that includes everything,” Kilo says.

In 2021, Kilo stepped away from her role as an artist to pursue the festival. With Carne Asada Fest, she makes that opportunity a reality for homegrown artists.

“I look at artists that are up-and-coming and I hope that this is going to be one of the best experiences that they have,” she says. “I love that I’m going to be a part of their journey… I can still be that little girl that loves music, just in a different place.”

The 2023 line-up includes local artists Yossy, Steve Garcia, MurieL, Ricky Ray, Psyche, Ren Galera and more. DJs Flaco, Avii Glow, Avii, Uneeq, Chuy Salazar, ETX will also hit the stage.

This year, visual arts will be emphasized at the event.

Last year, the Carne Asada Fest showcased a spray-painted mural by Agustin Chavez, known artistically as Dummy Fresh.

This year, he is creating life-size Loteria cards that are “a lil Dallas, pero puro Latino.” These hand-created 3D art installations will give Dallas the opportunity to be immersed in Chavez’s creativity.

“Carne Asada Fest is like his playground. There are no limits on what he is able to create,” Kilo says.

This year’s host is Dallas icon Mauri “Mean Mauri” Reynosa. Reynosa is a touchstone for Latino Dallas millennials who grew up listening to the DJ on the airwaves of KCHK FM and seeing his antics on DMXTv.

Dallas brand El Chuy will make a rare appearance at Carne Asada Fest’s mercado. “El Chuy” himself is illusive, but the brand’s Dallas slide slippers are everywhere. The brand’s reach goes far beyond Dallas.

“The artists and food and all are really great, but it’s really about being there with people that love Dallas as much as you do,” Kilo says. “You will never get to experience 2022, you will never get to experience 2021, so don’t miss 2023.”

Fort Worth And Arlington To Host PBR Finals

The Professional Bull Riders (PBR) World Finals are heading to Fort Worth and Arlington next year.

“AT&T Stadium is the home of the Cowboys, and it is fitting to be the destination for western sports enthusiasts around the globe to take in the climax of bull riding’s crown jewel, the PBR World Finals,” said PBR CEO and commissioner Sean Gleason. Gleason announced next year’s event scheduled on May 17.

Rounds one to four of the 2024 World Finals will be held at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth on May 10 to 13, 2024.

“We’ve hosted incredibly successful events at AT&T Stadium for more than a decade and bookending the World Finals’ start at Dickies Arena with the grand finale at this extraordinary state-of-the-art venue will put a giant exclamation point on the finals while adding to our already diverse and burgeoning schedule in the heart of Cowboy Country in Fort Worth,” said Gleason.

The final rounds of the competition will be held at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington on May 18 to 19, 2024.

According to Dallas Cowboys Chief Operating Officer Stephen Jones, Hosting PBR at AT&T Stadium is one of their longest running events since the stadium opened in 2009.

“Since then, the fans of North Texas have grown accustomed to attending this great event at AT&T Stadium, and we’re extremely honored to continue this incredible tradition and relationship with PBR by hosting the World Finals in 2024,” Jones said.

Tickets are now on sale for the 2024 event. The finals will also offer a variety of programming, including:

  • A concert series
  • A fan zones
  • Competitive events including the Women’s Rodeo World Championship Week, Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, Ultimate Freestyle Bullfighting

“We’re thrilled about PBR’s decision to bring the action-packed World Finals back to AT&T Stadium here in the American Dream City,” said Arlington mayor Jim Ross. “We’re ready to welcome fans next year to our world class entertainment district to cheer on the top bull riders as they chase their dreams on the international stage.”

The PBR was held in Fort Worth for the first time in 2022.

The AT&T Stadium has also previously hosted the PBR World Finals. The stadium was the first venue outside of Las Vegas to welcome the event when it relocated in 2020 due to ongoing restrictions associated with the COVID-19.

“As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we recognize numerous historic and record-setting PBR moments have happened in both Fort Worth and Arlington,” said Gleason. “Going forward in future seasons, we will ramp up the excitement with new and even more exciting and diverse fan experiences, including an even larger presence in the Fort Worth Stockyards to further connect with the very audience who have helped make us who we are today.”

More than 800 bull riders compete in more than 200 events annually in the PBR. The organization’s 2023 finals event is currently underway.

Following the first three rounds of competition an injured, and not competing, top-ranked Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil), remains 74 points ahead of number two Leme, while top five Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas) and Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) capped the first weekend of action with a score to inch closer to the number one rank.

The champion of the event will receive bragging rights and a $1 million bonus.

The PBR action will continue on May 18 until Sunday, May 21. Tickets are still available. For more information, click here.

Jeremy Renner continues to make strides after snow plow accident | Daily Mail Online

Jeremy Renner continues to take huge strides towards a full recovery following his New Year’s Day accident that nearly cost him his life.

On Saturday, some five-and-a-half months into his recovery after suffering more than 30 broken bones, the Hollywood leading man took to his Instagram page and gave his 20.8 million fans and followers an update on his rehabilitation.

But not before revealing that he was able to enjoy some quality family time with his 10-year-old daughter Ava, whom he co-parents with his ex-wife Sonni Pacheco, during an afternoon of golfing together.

Driving Success With a Hybrid Amazon Vendor & Seller Strategy

I recently had a great podcast with Paul at Merchantspring to discuss what key aspects are imperative to being able to run both an Amazon vendor (1P) and Amazon seller (3p) account together.

So why are we talking about being able to run both an Amazon vendor and Seller account together?

The landscape on Amazon has certainly shifted over the past few years
Amazon vendor managers are becoming invisible or are leaving the space entirely, we also have seen a huge round of unfortunate layoffs at Amazon with staff in core leaving, so this is causing some ripples with many vendors that we speak too.
Marketplace pulse recently reported how the shift is slowly moving to vendor and according to them In an annual sales meeting, a static raised from a couple of years ago showed that a team of 15 people overseeing a retail category would see their growth outperformed by one person from the marketplace team, which as we have seen with recent Amazon layoffs means its more operationally effective as well as this Amazon 3p marketplace is more profitable because it carries no inventory risk.
This of course means more and more self management within a system which is quite admin heavy.
And the balance of tools available has now shifted, vendor had all the real goodies but now your able to balance both.
Amazon in the EU are now pulling away from vendor clients who source products that aren’t their own brands and that will be fading away now right with the final cut off in Jan 2024.
Its worth mentioning early on that we aren’t discounting vendor at all, i think the stats are that 30% range of retail sales on Amazon are still coming from vendor predominantly from your big FMCG brands and your bigger headliners of course

What is the hybrid model/hybrid account strategy overview

Technically it’s the art of being able to run an Amazon vendor (1P) account alongside a seller one (3p), a feat that a few years ago was a big no-no, back when vendor was king and had all the best marketing and the $10,000 a year analytics package, now with Amazon’s focus on brands the real advantage on vendor now is certain promotions, first dibs on amazon deals and the ability to go into niche amazon programmes such as Amazon fresh
The real reason why running a hybrid model can be a great idea and it’s something that many of our clients do successfully is because a large portion of your inventory may not work on vendor.
It could be that amazon dont see your ASIN as being profitable to buy and sell so resulting in what we call CRAP (can’t realise a profit) products, it means that vendor are not going to place purchase orders, these systems are being done more and more algorithmically now and we are hearing more of how AI tools are making calculations in the this space too.
The pricing point that vendor retail for may not align with your retail pricing goals or with your other marketplaces and retailers.
A key myth that we are always keen to try and breakdown is the thats margin to sell on Amazon FBA is higher than on vendor. Its very easy to pool your margins from your terms together and say they work out cheaper than the 15.3% seller fees and the FBA fees that sit with it, but what about other costs that sit in the funnel – labour, shortage and chargeback claims etc, as well as a full understanding the breakdown of terms, they are unique to all vendors (some sitting at 23%+ that we have dealt with) and the reality is that it depends on so many factors right down to your category, your supply chain etc.
Pricing has been a very sensitive area for our clients especially over the past 12 months with huge cost increases globally. Traditionally unless you have an active vendor manager being able to justify your NetPPM (your net pure profit margin) and giving reasonable timeframes you may not get a satisfactory outcome. It’s much easier to be able to control the pricing using 3P.

It might sound like i am saying divert your business to 3p seller – but it isnt always the case, so to give you some background to our business, about 8 of our clients are on vendor and utilising the hybrid model but one or two are purely vendor based because this fits their model, Amazon buy a good portion of their inventory, its profitable when we crunched the numbers and crucially the have a vendor manager which allows those negotiations and communications to take place.

So in taking these points into consideration, 3p or Amazon seller allows you to take additional steps with your inventory that may be restrictive on vendor.

A case study into hybrid amazon selling

One of our clients doubled their revenue in less than two years from using the hybrid model.
They were doing £16000 a month in 2021 and we are now hitting revenues of over £35000 year on year.
Their product balance was about 50% vendor and 50% seller, they had already implemented a hybrid model that wasn’t effective, they didnt know how to manage it, vendor management and any level of support wasn’t there, they had also done the mistake of trying to implement FBA stock onto lines that were already on vendor which is a big no-no.
We did a price analysis line by line, we looked at performance and account management issues, the key issue was lack of account management and of course, a vendor manager!
We have managed to make certain ASINS work on Amazon where POs are effective, the products maintain good profitability amd keep a good flow of orders.
Where there was issues with purchase orders or NetPPM targets we moved those ASINs onto their seller account and optimized their account through seller central.
We are now heavily leveraged towards seller 3P with an 80/20 split.

Operational Challenges

The hybrid model works on an ASIN by ASIN basis, there is no one size fits all here, it is all dependent on category and the businesses relationship with Amazon and of course their uniquely created terms.
It is imperative to get a good understanding of your terms and costs on both channels, this is absolutely pivotal and the first thing we do when we analyze clients ASINS. If Amazon are buying a PO from you consistently even if your margin is slightly higher on seller – stay on vendor, because the costs for you to reach that same consistency on seller could be more expensive, getting FBA right, sales velocity back up etc
Directly competing ASIN by ASIN is one of the worst mistakes you can make in running the hybrid model, challenging Amazon to create purchase orders for an ASIN whilst at the same having that item with Amazon either on FBA or FBM and competing effectively 2 different sellers for the buybox.

Benefits & Drawbacks

The key and main benefit of course is to diversity your portfolio of products and give you a second bite of the Amazon platform without having to risk not being able to present your product range to all consumers and its a win-win for both, if its not profitable for Amazon to buy the product from you, its perfectly reasonable for them to not want to invest in a slow moving range or one that is not meeting their profit demands, your still able to offer that product line and still give Amazon its cut.

A huge drawback for some brands especially in the US is that some vendor managers have told their vendors they CAN’T go onto seller, but then if you have a vendor manager or an account manager I would consider working on that relationship to improve the issues you are experiencing, be clear, negotiate and discuss, work on your NetPPM figures, build a good rapport, communication is key with every aspect to Amazon not just on vendor, on the flipside of that we have been told in UK by vendor managers TOO build a seller arm and have FBM products inline in case customers cannot get a vendor item.

Vendor is still the catalog king – in other words, having an ASIN on vendor first means contributions or product content will always feed from vendor, meaning if you try and update seller this may be more challenging, however we had a case very recently with brand registry support where we could actually tell Amazon to allow either 1p content contributors or 3P..
Remember – crunch the numbers in detail, we even go as far as looking at NetPPM by analyzing the time it takes you to do ASN (advance shipping notifications) over FBA shipments and tracking

The biggest takeaway i can give to this conversation is that flexibility does exist within the platform, and its not a case of being able to do all or nothing. I think its fair comment that vendors lack of understanding might make some want to make a quick move to seller central without fully reviewing their options, crunching those numbers, seeing if there is a vendor manager or working with support to create reasonable goals. Vendor is certainly an art form – but then it is also true that without proper support available on vendor, this is making a lot of brands explore possibilities in other areas, especially when they see their competitors wiping the floor in their categories.
