When Buying Luggage, why Price Is Not Everything

When Buying Luggage, why Price Is Not Everything

Busted zippers, tore joints, plastic rollers, curved manages. These are several of the poor impacts of buying baggage based only on cost alone. The expense of baggage is not one location where you desire to stretch a dollar when it comes to shielding your points.

Also if you make a decision to acquire a service warranty on your travel luggage, the regards to the service warranty can be really complex and also, in the long run, very little is actually covered. By the time you pay to send your thing for fixing, it’s not actually worth the initiative.

One extremely usual trouble that happens with low-cost baggage is the usage of plastic wheels or rollers. Your travel luggage will certainly be susceptible to tipping over, making it challenging to drag the travel luggage on the slim airport terminal carpeting.

An additional typical trouble is the bad building of the extendable manage. Occasionally, these takes care of do not appropriately secure and also expand which will ultimately flex the deal with. Once it flexes, it can no more expand effectively, making the manage pointless and also making it difficult for you to draw your rolled baggage.

And also absolutely nothing can take care of a damaged zipper. If your baggage has among those huge, economical steel zippers, opportunities go to some factor its mosting likely to divide. Possibly it will certainly occur when you load your baggage also complete, or when your baggage winds up compressed by much heavier travel luggage in the luggage location of the aircraft.

Be mindful to acquire baggage just from a popular supplier. Calvin Klein might make excellent pants, yet that does not indicate they can make wonderful baggage. Building is whatever in wonderful baggage.

Believe meticulously regarding the type of usage your baggage will certainly obtain. Much more pricey travel luggage is absolutely worth the cash if you take a trip often. While purchasing, make certain to open up the travel luggage as well as completely inspect the within.

Florida State baseball takes both games in doubleheader against Jacksonville

Watch: FSU’s Mike Martin Jr. talks doubleheader wins over Jacksonville
Florida State took two wins in its doubleheader against Jacksonville on Tuesday.
Carter Karels, Tallahassee Democrat

Brock Mathis celebrated his 24th birthday with a two-run ground rule double.

The hit started a five-run third inning for No. 25 Florida State (30-17) en route to its 5-4 win over Jacksonville (24-23) at Dick Howser Stadium on Tuesday. The Seminoles also defeated the Dolphins 2-1 in the first of two seven-inning games they played as part of a doubleheader.

Infielders Jordan Carrion and Brett Roberts and freshman outfielder Jaime Ferrer loaded the bases to begin the third inning. Then Mathis launched a ball that bounced over the center-field wall, plating Carrion and Roberts.

“He’s fun-loving, and guys love to be around him,” said FSU head coach Mike Martin Jr. on Mathis, who transferred from Oklahoma State to the Seminoles prior to this season. “He’s knowledgeable. He’s been around the block. Nothing scares him, fazes him. He’s been an absolute joy to coach. I wish I had him longer than just one year. He’s brought a lot to the clubhouse.”

Ferrer scored on a bunt from third baseman Jackson Greene. A wild pitch that sailed past batter Logan Lacey offered Mathis enough time to advance from third. Lacey ended the scoring by bringing Greene home on a sacrifice fly.

All five of FSU’s runs were earned by Jacksonville pitcher Blake Barquin. The freshman recorded just one out before being replaced. Barquin relieved starting pitcher Tyler Naumann, who surrendered a pair of hits across two innings.

The Seminoles added enough insurance in that third inning to fend off a late rally.

“The more times you run into those (one-run games), you think back to postseasons in the past,” Martin said. “They are always generally close games. The ones who are battle-tested, who had those, you find that way to win. We’ve had clubs that got off to unbelievable starts, but they never played close games.

“And then all of the sudden, you are going against conference foes or postseason, and they’ve never been in it. So it’s good to have them. It’s good to get Ws.”

Jackson Baumeister (1-2) earned the win in his first career start. The freshman pitcher allowed one run on three hits, one walk and a hit by pitch across 3.2 innings. The Dolphins produced their run on Baumeister from infielder Jesus Pacheco being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fourth inning.

“He gave us exactly what we needed,” said Martin of Baumeister. “We were a little bit thin going into game two. And he came out firing strikes, landing changeups. I’m really pumped for him. He was able to get three (pitches) for strikes. It was the first start of his career. It was very encouraging.”

Freshman pitcher Conner Whittaker replaced Baumeister after his hit by pitch. He helped FSU escape the inning with minimal damage by striking out Jonah Diaz. But Whittaker found himself in another jam in the fifth, loading the bases with two walks and a hit by pitch.

Davis Hare relieved Whittaker and left the inning unscathed by retiring all three of the batters he faced. The third batter – outfielder Cam Ridley – came close to a grand slam. But Ferrer caught his deep fly ball while crashing into the left-field wall.

Hare surrendered three runs – two earned – in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Jacksonville’s Jackson Grabsky recorded a two-RBI single, scoring Eli Flowers and Christian Coipel. Blake Delamielleure advanced home on the play because of a throwing error from center fielder Treyton Rank.

Grabsky also moved to third as the tying run. But Josh Steidl grounded out with Hare still on the mound to end the game.

“We like to go to him when punch-outs are needed,” Martin said of Hare. “We’ve got to get the location of the fastball (right). When he gets hit, every time it’s a fastball. I don’t know if he’s tipping, or if it’s strictly location. But Jimmy and him will get it fixed. Because when he locates, he’s dominant. And if they don’t know the fastball is coming, he’s dominant. He was frustrated. …

“But he’s a weapon. He can come in and give you exactly what you need.”

Seminoles take game one in offensive struggle

FSU outfielder James Tibbs picked the perfect time to extend his on-base streak to 19 games.

The star freshman needed at least a fly ball while the Seminoles trailed 1-0 in the fifth inning of game one. With runners on second and third and one out, Tibbs crushed a two-run double off the right field fence. Carrion and catcher Colton Vincent scored.

Tibb’s hit ultimately lifted FSU to a 2-1 win over Jacksonville in the first seven-inning game of a doubleheader at Dick Howser Stadium on Tuesday.

The Seminole offense started slow, recording just one hit through the first four innings. Then Carrion and Vincent added back-to-back singles to start the fifth inning before Tibbs tallied his 12th double of the season.

FSU pitcher Jonah Scolaro (2-3) helped his team stay in the game while the offense struggled. He lasted a career-high 4.1 innings without surrendering a run and only allowed five hits, one walk and a hit by pitch while striking out five batters.

“The changeup has made him a different guy. Jonah is a tough at-bat,” Martin said. “Four pitches for strikes, fielding his position, the composure and all the things that he has, it makes him a weapon. It doesn’t matter (if he’s facing a) right-handed or left-handed (batter). We don’t worry about that with him.”

Scolaro replaced starting pitcher Ross Dunn, who recorded just two outs. Designated hitter Tommy Joseph plated a run off Dunn in the first inning, advancing  Flowers home on a single up the middle. Dunn yielded one earned run on one hit, one walk, and a hit by pitch.

Hare and Wyatt Crowell succeeded Scolaro, and both of them pitched a scoreless inning. Crowell earned his first career save. In his last 12 pitching appearances since March 29, Crowell has a 4-0 record with a 0.75 ERA.

“We can just refer back to it,” said Martin on the opportunities this doubleheader brought his relievers. “You talk about the mental side of competition. When J-Baum gets another start, the first thing that’s going to be told to him is, ‘Think back to your start against Jacksonville, the way you went about it, your routine, the way it made you feel, learned from it and grew from it.’

“The more times we get those young pups out there, the better off we are going to be in the end.”

Up Next

FSU will host its last three-game series of the season against No. 5 Miami this weekend. The three games begin at 7 p.m. Friday (ACC Network Extra), 7 p.m. Saturday (ACC Network) and noon Sunday (ESPN2).

“Junior” Volkswagen Amarok shelved… again

Volkswagen has once again ruled the possibility of the Tarok bakkie entering production despite having previously hinted it could become a reality by 2024.

The second delay after being axed in 2020, only for an apparent reversal to occur months later, the Tarok had been tipped to enter production at the General Pacheco plant in Argentina, plans that now appear to have been scrapped despite Volkswagen announcing a $250-million investment into the facility this week.

“The Tarok compact pickup is a beautiful project, but today it is impossible to make it in Argentina. (Production of it) is humanly and technically impossible,” motor1.com Brazil quoted Volkswagen’s President for Latin America, Pablo Di Si, as saying at the investment announcement.

In a surprise turnaround, Di Si confirmed that most of the investment will go towards production of the next generation Amarok, though more than likely only for Latin America after it was confirmed in 2020 that production for key markets would be transferred to Ford’s Silverton Plant outside Pretoria.

The unexpected u-turn, also motivated by Volkswagen’s decision to build the Taos at General Pacheco for South America, has seemingly served as the final blow for the Tarok after Di Si confirmed that the São Bernardo do Campo plant in Brazil would build the Polo Track once production of the model it replaces, the Gol, ends next year.

ALSO READ: Volkswagen Tarok becoming a reality but…

In addition, production in North America has been denounced despite interest being shown in a possible rival for the Hyundai Santa Cruz, Ford Maverick and Honda Ridgeline.

“If you look at what Volkswagen did with the Rabbit/Golf, with the Jetta, those segments really drained, it got significantly smaller. Could we bring that back to life with a pick-up/lifestyle vehicle? I think we could and we will look at those opportunities,” Wolfsburg’s North American President and CEO, Scott Keogh, said back in 2020.

Shown in concept form four years ago, the Tarok has long since been billed as the replacement for the ageing Saveiro, with Volkswagen, at the time, branding it as a world vehicle capable of being offered with left-and-right-hand-drive.

Based on the same MQB-A0 platform as the Polo and Nivus/Taigo, the concept utilised motivation from either a flex-fuel version of the 1.4 TSI or a 2.0 TDI, the latter being the biggest hint of exportation outside of Latin America.

Called 80% ready at the time of the concept’s launch, the Tarok has been expected to rival the Fiat Toro/Ram 1000, Maverick, Renault Oroch and Chevrolet’s incoming all-new Montana, though this now appears unlikely given Di Si’s comments.

Uber to cut costs, treat hiring as a ‘privilege’: CEO email

Uber reported a loss of $5.9 billion in the first quarter of 2022.

Uber Will cut back on spending and focus on becoming a smaller business to address ‘seismic shift’ in investor sentiment, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi He told employees in an email obtained by CNBC.

“After the earnings, I spent several days interviewing investors in New York and Boston,” Khosrowshahi said in the email sent late Sunday. “The market is clearly going through a seismic shift and we need to respond accordingly.”

Technology stocks have sharply From the heights of the coronavirus pandemic, as investors fear the prospect of the end of the era of cheap money that defined the historic bull market. The Nasdaq Composite It posted a fifth consecutive week of declines last week, the longest streak of weekly losses since 2012.

To address the shift in economic sentiment, the passenger carrier will cut spending on marketing and incentives and treat recruitment as a “privilege,” Khosrowshahi said.

“We have to make sure our unit economics works before we get big,” the Uber chief wrote. “The least efficient marketing and incentive spending will be withdrawn.”

He added, “We will treat hiring as a privilege and will be thoughtful about when and where to add the number of employees.” “We’re going to be getting tighter about costs across the board.”

It makes Uber the latest tech company to warn of a hiring slowdown. Parent company Facebook dead Last week he told the staff that he would be stop or slow The pace of adding middle or senior roles, while Robinhood he is Reducing about 9% of its workforce.

Uber shares fell about 2.5% in pre-US trading. The stock is down more than 40% year-to-date.

Khosrowshahi said Uber will now focus on achieving profitability based on free cash flow rather than adjusted EBITDA.

“We’ve made a lot of progress in terms of profitability, and we’ve set a target of $5 billion in adjusted EBITDA in 2024, but the targets have changed,” Khosrowshahi said. “Now it’s about free cash flow. We can (and should) get there quickly.”

Uber’s revenue more than doubled to $6.9 billion in the first quarter, as demand for its transportation business rebounded thanks to the easing of Covid restrictions. The company has relied heavily on its food delivery unit to drive sales amid the pandemic.

However, Uber has also published a file $5.9 billion loss In the period, noting the decline in its investments in stocks.

“We serve multi-billion dollar markets, but the size of the market will be irrelevant if it does not translate into profit,” he said.

Although investors are “happy” with the growth of Uber Eats emerging from the pandemic, Khosrowshahi said, the segment “should grow faster.” He added that the company’s shipping business is a growth opportunity that “needs to scale up”.

He ended the note with a rallying call to the staff: “Let’s make it legendary. Go ahead and get it!”

Uber’s cost-cutting strategy highlights a difference from LiftIts main competitor is in the United States and Canada. Lift Wed said Spending will increase to attract more drivers due to higher gas prices.

Both companies faced driver shortages as demand for taxis rebounded. But Uber says its driver base is up to high after the epidemicWhich means the company won’t need to invest much in getting more drivers to the platform.

Uber team –

After the earnings, I spent several days interviewing investors in New York and Boston. It is clear that the market is undergoing a seismic shift and we need to act accordingly. My meetings were very straightforward and I wanted to share some thoughts with all of you. As you read it, please keep in mind that while the investors don’t run the company, they own the company – and they entrust us with running it well. We have to strategize and make decisions, but we need to do so in a way that ultimately serves our shareholders and their long-term interests.

1. In times of uncertainty, investors look for safety. They realize we are the tiered leader in our categories, but they don’t know the value of that. Directing Jerry Maguire, we need to show them the money. We’ve made a lot of progress in terms of profitability, setting a target of $5 billion in adjusted EBITDA in 2024, but goals have changed. Now it comes to free cash flow. We can (and should) get there quickly. There will be companies that put their heads in the sand and are slow to pivot. The hard truth is that many of them will not survive. The average employee at Uber is barely over 30 years old, which means you’ve spent your career in a long and unprecedented race. The coming period will be different, and it will require a different approach. Rest assured, we won’t put our heads in the sand. We’ll meet for a moment.

2. Investors finally understand that we are a completely different animal than Lyft and other ride-only platforms. They are incredibly excited about the pace of our innovations, how quickly we can recover, and the huge growth opportunities like Hailables and Taxi. While they admit we won, they don’t yet know “the size of the prize”. Their questions revolve around the whole series of “Does anyone else but you make money on on-demand transportation?” To “Ridesharing has been around for a while, why isn’t anyone else winning?” They see the size of the TAM, they don’t understand how that translates into big profits and free cash flow. We have to show them.

3. Investors are pleased with the delivery growth resulting from the pandemic and see that we have done better than many other pandemic winners. I must admit that came as a surprise to me because I firmly believe that delivery should grow faster. The key questions were: “Is delivery a good business and why?” and “What happens if we enter a recession?” We need to answer these two questions with undeniably strong results.

4. Investors who ask about shipping love shipping. However, less than 10% of them asked about it. Shipping has to get bigger so investors realize its value and love it as much as I do.

5. Meeting the moment means making trade-offs. The hurdle rate for our investments has risen, and this means that some initiatives that require significant capital will slow down. We have to make sure the economics of our unit is working before we can be very successful. Less efficient marketing and incentive spending will be withdrawn. We will treat hiring as a privilege and be thoughtful about when and where to add headcount. We’ll be tighter about costs across the board.

6. We are beginning to demonstrate the strength of the platform, a structural feature that sets us apart. As you know, our strategy here is simple: get consumers on the go or hook up, encourage them to try one another, and tie everything together with a compelling membership program. The advantage here is obvious, but we have to show the value of the platform in real dollar terms. We serve multi-trillion dollar markets, but the market size will be irrelevant if it doesn’t translate into profit.

7. We must do all of the above while continuing to provide a premium experience for consumers and income earners. Whether someone is booking summer trips with friends, or a new parent who relies on Uber Eats for everything from groceries to dinner and diapers, we have to make every interaction excellent. The same goes for anyone who comes to Uber to make money. We’ve responded to the pandemic by becoming income-centric in a way we haven’t been before. We innovate for income earners, think deeply about their experience, and put ourselves in their shoes – literally – by driving, delivering and shopping ourselves. Due to hundreds of improvements in this area, people who want to earn flexibly now come to Uber first, taking advantage of our scale, diversity and our commitment to treating them with respect.

I wasn’t more confident that we would win. But it will require the best of our DNA: innovation that defines buzz, grit and class. In some places, we’ll have to back off in order to run forward. We will certainly have to do more with less. This won’t be easy, but it will be epic. Remember who we are. We are Uber, a once-in-a-generation company that truly became and changed the world forever. Let’s write the next chapter of our story, working together as #OneUber, and making it legendary.

Go get it!

McClellan’s theory of motivation – Emotional-intelligence

My next couple of blogs will be on motivation.  I wrote a blog in 2018 about motivation and emotional intelligence: Do You Make This One Big Mistake About Emotional Intelligence? that followed on a blog by Daniel Goleman.

This time it was a blog by Rachel Pacheco from the Wharton Business School Motivator in Chief: Getting the Most from Your Team.  The blog suggests you play chess not checkers to motivate your team and use McClelland’s Theory of Motivation postulated in 1961 as a tool for doing so.  For those unfamiliar with his theory McClelland identifies three needs (achievement, power, and affiliation) that correlate with how an individual is motivated, particularly at work. While everyone is driven by a combination of these needs, most of us have a dominant motivator.  These motivators are not inherent; we develop them through our culture and life experience.

I disagree with this last assertion.  I maintain that it is our temperament (our genetic emotional predisposition) that determines our motivation and is explained in the 7MTF model.  Also what drives the difference is where you are positioned on the spectra of seven different but common mental illnesses.

If Achievement is a team member’s primary need, they will be motivated by goal setting and accomplishing goals.  In the 7MTF model this is an Engineer who is motivated by a drive to complete projects.

Team members driven by primary need for Power will be motivated by competition and the ability to influence others.  In the 7MTF model this is a Politician who is driven by a desire to win.

Those with the primary need for Affiliation are motivated by belonging to a group and feeling a strong sense of community in their workplace.  They will stick with an organization because of loyalty to the team.  In the 7MTF model this is a Doublechecker who is driven by a desire for security.

The advice given in the article about how to handle the three types is excellent and overlaps vey much with the advice that I give in my own on-line video courses.  My criticism is more about granularity and practicality.  Seven is the practical limit of information and in the case of people having two motivators allows for 21 different combinations rather than 3.
