The Caribbean’s rising low-cost carrier Arajet will celebrate its first year of successful operations on September 15th. In partnership with aircraft manufacturer Boeing, the budget carrier has launched a unique anniversary sales campaign that allows passengers to purchase one-way airfare tickets to most destinations starting from $7.37, whereas one-way tickets to Brazil will start from $73.70.

A whole year of Arajet

Considered the first ultra-low-cost carrier in the Caribbean region, the official launch of Arajet from its base at Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo in September 2022 was widely celebrated, given its promising outlook. The airline was financially backed by Bain Capital, one of the world’s leading private multi-asset alternative investment firms, allowing it to secure a direct order for Boeing 737 MAX 8s and commence operations.

Within six months of operations, Arajet had transported approximately 150,000 passengers and shows no signs of slowing down. By July this year, the budget carrier had a fleet of five Boeing narrowbodies and was connecting 17 destinations in over 13 countries, including popular places like San José, Bogotá, and Cancún, with over 150 combinations of connections from all its destinations.

Also in the same month, the budget carrier announced further network expansions to destinations scheduled to launch in the remaining months of this year, such as Mexico City in Mexico, Medellín in Colombia, São Paulo Guarulhos in Brazil, Asunción in Paraguay, Toronto and Montreal in Canada, Buenos Aires in Argentina, Santiago in Chile, and Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic.

Celebrating the ultra-low-cost way

While Arajet’s growth in just one year is impressive, the budget carriers owe plenty of thanks to its increasing net of passengers. To celebrate its anniversary and show its gratitude, the airline is offering a special offer allowing passengers to purchase tickets at only $7.37 per segment – excluding taxes and additional fees.

This offer is available for flights to Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Saint Maarten, Curaçao, Aruba, Jamaica, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Canada, and the Dominican Republic by different segments. For flights to Brazil, one-way airfare prices will start at $73.70. It’s worth noting that the special prices are valid for flights from October 1st this year to June 30th next year, except for dates from December 14th this year to January 15th next year.

As for passengers flying with Arajet on September 15th, the ultra-low prices aren’t available. However, the airline will still celebrate its incredible anniversary milestone at Las Americas Airport with music, gifts, and special surprises for attendees. As to what these surprises may be, the suspension hangs as details of the events will only be disclosed in the following days.

The sale started on September 7th, and in the first 24 hours of the offer being live, Arajet sold more than 11,000 tickets. CEO and founder of the airline, Victor Pacheco, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), commenting,

“Yesterday we sold more than 11 thousand tickets. Arajet’s first year literally started “flying”, with our best day ever. Thank to Dominican Republic and Latin America for choosing us”.

According to the airline, the most sales were to Sao Paulo in Brazil, with more than 2,000 tickets purchased. Other popular destinations included Buenos Aires in Argentina and Mexico City.

Excitement for the following year

With celebrations underway and additional new routes set to be launched later this year, Arajet’s fast expansion is maintaining its pace. Having previously hinted at plans to operate routes to the US, the airline has already requested the Department of Transportation for authorization to launch flights by the end of this year to three destinations, specifically to New York, San Juan, and Miami.

Flight services to Toronto and Montreal will be launched later this month, and in October, Arajet is seeking to operate flights to more Canadian cities. Besides its vast network growth, the airline is also waiting patiently to increase fleet capacities, with more Boeing 737 MAX 8s set to arrive on lease before the end of this year.
